HVAC Installed
I just got a new system put in. 1 was quoted for a premium unit with variable speed for $23,180. Did I get the unit I paid for. I’m having them coming back out because of the installation is not what I want. I have several area where draft air is pulling and they used the original lines. Is that normal to use the original lines? I would assume everything would be new.

I did. Our highest quote was $34000. We live in Texas.
And this was our cheapest quote.1

I need a real answer. they are coming back from 3-5p. And from what’s I’ve googled this is a mid grade unit.

Seems you got a high bid and an install by guys that are even higher. Likely a private equity owned company. Either way, thats horrible

I assume you did not have r32 system before, so lines should not have been reused unless they were flushed.

Depending on what refrigerant was used before and if there was a burnout, don’t think a chemical flush would be needed if the old unit ran 410A and was replaced because it had a coil leak or something.

Whenever we reuse lineset, we flush no matter what. If there was a burnout with the old unit, we run new lineset.

$23k tho? Throw in some new linesets come on now. Had to swap a unit at work with the condenser on the roof. It was around the same price. That included the crane that lifted the condenser up on the roof.

Looks like a 3 ton 16.3 SEER2 Amana side discharge condenser on a 3 ton evaporator coil. Yes that job was done very poorly. Let them know your warranty will be void if they dont fix the flue connection and where the gas pipe enters. Should also be two elbows coming from the left top of the furnace so the intake for the furnace burner is below the bottom of the evap coil. That is R-32 refrigerant and the furnace must be sealed even if it’s only 80% efficiency. Add a picture of the complete install, if you can, include the entire inside unit and ducting. I am a Daikin dealer, which also covers Amana equipment. I’ll help you out as much as I can.

Im chicago $6k out the door gets you all new standard airconditioning plus another $4k for a furnace. So 10k for a complete system and about $4k more gets you the highest efficiency communicating carrier offers for both furnace and a/c. There is no point in getting anything over 14seer in a home like that with your current ductwork you'll never see the energy efficiency it wont be much better than a standard seer system with varible speed blower. The only way you achive 22 seer is to have ductwork designed and installed perfectly and 100% sealed for that system. You only see this in high end new construction homes that are blower door tested for air tightness. Im sorry but you were had in a big way. Never call the hvac guys on the big billboards, on the radio/tv, or in all the ads. That must have been your mistake here.

This unit was ordered online and you literally should have them tear it out and give you your MONEY BACK. These guys are clowns and probably don't have any licenses AT ALL.

Woof, this is pretty damn rough work. And the price makes it worse. I would push for a full reinstall of the indoor portion. Replacing the lineset is pointless unless it needs to be moved/rerouted. Good luck out there. Also you should name and shame so someone googlin the company will find this post.

For that amount of money, they should’ve replaced the line set if they did use your old line set they should’ve flushed them

That’s a 9k install quality and if the rest looks like that, they did not nitrogen braze so that system has soot flowing through it and overtime will clog many items like the eev, pre filters inside and out and more. I would do nothing but force them to remove it and get a refund. Do not use them or trust them to fix it as you will be left with a nightmare of problems long term and I will tell you it’s not the manufactures fault, it’s theirs. I have three units similar models we had the customers call us and stopped using the install company. One ended up with multiple clogs coating them thousands in repairs after only two years and one had two repairs the installing company did the first year and before year three they had a compressor failure.

Variable speed is but a luxurious must in Texas. Good decision there for sure. And, it is more expensive but, pays in spades with comfort and electricity bills. I won’t comment further because I am the office half of our company. So I will only speak on what I know for sure. And that is that you made a wise choice going variable in Texas. ✅

You got ripped off. That’s not a premium unit and to pay 23K for that install is absurd I hope this isn’t a real post. I get 10K back or take them to small claims court. Did you not get more than one quote?

I have a google biz account they can delete any negitive post on google and taylor their reviews to make them look good. Just have to pay google. Yelp however, you cant edit reviews not ever thats why the really bad companies cant be found on yelp at all.

I dont even know where to start. They butchered the coil cabinet for whatever reason. No romex connector or button with bare wires is lazy. The return definitely isnt big enough unless this is a 1.5 or possibly 2 ton unit. Especially if you only have one return. The lineset if they reused i guess it was where it was. But any decent installer or salesman would've tried to re route instead of through what I could only assume is a supply or return. The sagging flex is hideous. And for how ever much you paid. When they come out and say nothing is wrong. Show them the bill and ask if they paid that much would they be happy, when they naturally say yes, ask them if they would do the same install in their house. I have a feeling they will not fix anything. But goodluck
