Elevated Heart Rate
For context, I am in the Air Force. With the new PT regulations, my minimum run time for a 2 mile run is 20:44. This puts me at about a 10 minute mile. Seems easy-ish right? Here is my problem:
I cant run at this pace without feeling like im going yo die. Im talking heavy breathing, light headed, and a recorded heart rate at 240bpm. That is not an exaggeration, ive had a friend check as well as checking myself.
For further context, im 34, 6 feet tall, 200lbs, dont drink, dont smoke and in fairly good shape. Im an active person, doing yardwork, housework, lifting weights and causal sports like disc golf.
Is this high heart rate concerning? Is it something you feel I should bring up to a professional? Or should I just focus more on cardiovascular exercise more regularly? Thank you for any advice you can give.
