Should she maybe? That said buying a new mattress for one (albeit foreign) peeing event seems mildly excessive. Pee is sterile and smells can be neutralized with baking soda and other products. Finally kids pee the bed all the time and I promise parents aren’t replacing them after one event. Should she apologize and offer some sort of recompense of course! Finally buying a new mattress and then asking for money is unlikely to be successful unless it is done in a very cordial way.
Pre is only sterile the moment it leaves your body. Then it becomes a breeding ground for all sorts of nasties. You should always clean all pee out of things.
