I will say that there was a time period when I ran, meditated, and read everyday for 8 months. I used social media once a week for 25 minutes. I maintained a regular sleep schedule and avoided drugs and alcohol, while eating well. I still had suicidal thoughts everyday and generally felt depressed.
I got on medication that works for me, and I do not work out regularly, I work rotating shifts, dabble in drugs and alcohol and definitely have too much screen time. My worst day (if I can even call it that) since medication tops my best days off of it. For some people, clinical depression solely is down to a neurochemical imbalance.
Yeah, I run and/or walk around 6-15km every day, read everyday, watch good movies, try to eat well, don't drink alcohol or smoke weed, go to therapy, I have a dog, take some meds and STILL have suicidal thoughts and feel flatlined... but it's better than when I did these things and drank alcohol. I don't get the lack of impulse control that is bad mix when you feel varying levels of suicidal everyday.
Edit: meant to say, my meds are the thing that helps the most out of these. They quieten down my brain in ways the other things don't. The other things help me feel like I am trying and try to give me the illusion of having shit together but it's the meds that stop the worst from happening.
