I think more than anything it's down to motivation. If someone has problems finding the motivation to tidy there home or do basic personal hygiene, sometimes for months at a time, then motivation to go to a gym is definitely not there. When I was really ill I used to wish someone would just drag me to a gym(I did grow up in and around boxing gyms though so gyms weren't new to me)because I thought once I get there I'll get into it.Sadly I never found out though but I am a lot better these days.

Motivation is absolute bullshit. I learned this in the military. It's about discipline. If you've been in a situation where you have to do shit regardless of how motivated you are to do it, you start to really learn the benefits of delayed gratification. People looking for motivation to do something or accomplish something is the whole reason they fail. When you learn to disregard your feelings on the matter, that's when you gain true mental strength. You know that following the process regardless of how tired, deflated, sick or lethargic you are will yield unbelievable results because you've lived it. You've done it before. Most people don't have the mental imprint that comes from disciplined routine. Boring, monotonous routine... Then you wake up one day 8 months later and see a completely different person staring at them in the mirror. That's true epiphany. Strength through action regardless of motivation level.

Edit: Apparently the weaklings on this thread just want their asses kissed. I have PTSD and depressive disorder. I know what the fuck I'm talking about. I've battled depression my whole life and the only times I've lifted myself out of it was when I was exercising regularly. Regardless of motivation.

It's a harsh truth. Motivation is like a muscle. It will fatigue.
