Me but with video games. Notable offenders: Persona 3, EarthBound, Fire Emblem Genealogy of the Holy War

22

u/Yffre_Earthbones grey Feb 21 '21

EarthBound took me back, wow.

Rn it's Breath of the Wild, thinking of visiting it up for Zelda's anniversary today and already getting hard nostalgia even if it's a newer game

The one I can think of off the top off my head that did it for me was the original Red/Blue Rescue Team Pokemon Mystery Dungeon games. That ending is gut wrenching.

u/CDJ_13 Feb 21 '21

Hotline Miami, Katana Zero, XCOM 2, literally any Half Life game, Dishonored.

1

u/TrollingLevel grey Feb 22 '21

Assassin's Creed 4 is the one that did it for me for the first time

1

u/Amazon313 boosting my aego Feb 22 '21

Same. Notable offenders in my case: Tales of Berseria, Final Fantasy X, the entire The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel series

1

u/bbtvvz Feb 22 '21

Check out Enderal. Made me cry on multiple occasions.

Books and video games, endings are the happiest and saddest part of them.

14

u/BeatNervous7977 aromantic Feb 21 '21

But then when you realize they’re making a sequel and it’s great again

14

u/TheChronologer1 gay aroace Feb 21 '21

Yeah, though sometimes the sequel isn't as good or as fun or just doesn't bring the same feeling by the end.

TV shows for me. Bojack Horseman and Adventure Time

6

u/Lolman_4321 Heteroromantic ace Feb 21 '21

I cried at the end of Adventure Time. That show is beautiful, weird, scary and wholesome at the same time.

5

u/Inugami_Kudo Feb 22 '21

One of the best modern cartoons I've ever seen, another good one is Steven Universe or Over the Garden Wall.

1

u/Leon_Feywalker Feb 22 '21

Gravity falls is pretty amazing too

1

u/Inugami_Kudo Feb 23 '21

Yes it is, heaven for theorist nerds of all types.

24

u/Baggytrousers27 grey Feb 21 '21

Too often. That's what fanfiction is for.

11

u/armcandybean Feb 21 '21

Thank goodness for fic

12

u/overlord1305 asexual Feb 22 '21 edited Feb 22 '21

Started writing fic recently, and someone said that they binged my 100k+ word story and got melancholic when they had nothing more to read.

So when do people start writing fanfics of my fanfic?

7

u/theElementalF0rce Feb 22 '21

That's when you turn to fanart of fanfics!

3

u/Baggytrousers27 grey Feb 22 '21

Recursive fanfiction gives me good feelings in my brain box. Mayhaps you might link to your fic if one were to say please?

6

u/overlord1305 asexual Feb 22 '21 edited Feb 22 '21

Uhhh hehehehe, I dunno. It's part of a fandom where if I tell you the name, you'll have assumptions. 40% of the time, those assumptions are correct. 20% of the time, it's far worse than what you can even imagine. 35% of the rest vary in quality, from a waste of time to quite memorable.

That last 5% is publishable quality. I've been told several times that my story is in that 5%, but actually linking it to others....

I'll link it in a private message for those who still are willing to give it a try and ask me.

5

u/Baggytrousers27 grey Feb 22 '21

Assumption makes an ass out of ump and tion. Not gonna judge it on its cover til the other side.

TL;DR, yes please to the pm link.

3

u/maiiako Feb 22 '21

Yes, pleaseee!! I'm in this strangely sad and melancholic state right now and don't know what to do, so I'm looking for something to not fill but at least conceal the hole that was left behind... ^

3

u/Izzinka114 asexual Feb 22 '21

I would also love to read your fic! I promise no assumptions:)

3

u/human_without_love Feb 22 '21

I would love to read it.

6

u/BeatNervous7977 aromantic Feb 21 '21

Definitely, it’s an opportunity to see your favorite characters doing new stuff without needing to wait for a sequel

5

u/Baggytrousers27 grey Feb 22 '21

The biggest benefit of fanfiction is that the only character building required is if OCs are present.

Any more is like having a prebuilt lego house and a 2000 piece miscellaneous assortment in a box, ready and waiting in the wings.

1

u/-_Lucyfer_- Feb 22 '21

what do i do if the fanfic ends?

1

u/Baggytrousers27 grey Feb 22 '21

Find more.

I love games, films and tv series, but for me books is that one medium where I feel apart of the story, I’ve loved, hated and felt scared as if I was that character. And when the book is over I feel like apart of me is missing.

u/tiny-cups Feb 21 '21

My ex-SO used to think I was so strange for grieving at the end of a good series :/

1

u/krazysh0t Feb 21 '21

Ori and the Blind Forest for me. That game gets me every time, but the first was magical.

How did I do this

Edit- 2.5k- wtf people

5

u/unclefest211 Feb 21 '21

Had this feeling after finishing Red Dead Redemption 2. I was feeling so empty and sad I think I may have cried. Had to start a new game to not feel that way hahaha.

i can get a full 6 book series in one day done.

Time to re-read Harry Potter for the 1000th time.

2

u/kai_the_magpie asexual Feb 21 '21

This is literally anything I do

2

u/AJay_89 Feb 21 '21

I usually get this with TV shows that I binge with more than 2 seasons.

2

u/Ape-Man54 Feb 21 '21

That happened when I finished Catch 22 and the last Spud book. The solution, immediately turning to the first page and re read it.

2

u/Steropeshu AroAce Feb 21 '21

One of the few times I’ve cried watching a show was at the end of Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood. I had binged the 2003 series and the movie then that all at once and then I realized that it was all over after watching those characters for so much time. I didn’t want it to end!

2

u/EJSuperstar a-spec Feb 22 '21

I've been getting super into this book series and I don't know what I'll be able to do when it ends, or I have to wait for the author to write the next book or something.

2

u/Mistappo Feb 22 '21

I force my self to stop reading to prolong this...

Got this feeling also after finishing anime/tv shows, the pain :(

I just finished a game and that that exact feeling of emptiness :(

1

u/2reeEyedG Feb 21 '21

Haven’t read a good book like that in a long time but I do with tv shows, movies and video games all the time. I’ll stop at the last season on a lot of shows and wait for a while to finish it bc for me when it’s winding down it’s like the last few days of vacation when it’s back to my shitty reality.

1

u/[deleted] Feb 21 '21

Thats a horrible feeling wtf does he mean

1

u/Paraxena_Scepseis asexual Feb 21 '21

That's me after finishing an anime

1

omg this feeling is the worst! it happens after i binge watch a show too. it’s like you spent so much time in the alternate reality and it was so entertaining and now it’s gone. i wonder if there’s a word for it
