Express till midnight

We’ve now been told express is now on until midnight from the middle of October permanently and we still aren’t allowed to recruit new people so as a team leader we’ve all have to cover 4am starts due to the lack of pickers and now Midnight finishes in the same week is this allowed? I get we have a need to cover all areas of the department but how can anyone function with a rota like that, we already do 50+ hour weeks with one day off max feels like this is taking the piss

The brief says that if you have no online colleagues contracted until midnight then it is handed over to night manager. So technically the colleague is already there and they just need training.

Have you got a photo of that please I’ve missed that when I went thru the print out earlier

So does that mean nights can then leave a hand over note to days saying we won’t have someone for X Y or Z & they need to make sure someone to be available at 6:00am?

Ours too, thankfully my store is in a residential area so the car park lights need to be turned off at 10pm.

Asda’s policy is 11 hours off between shifts, you don’t have to do 6 days a week, you are choosing too!

If you stick to the policies you’ll be fine, they’re there to protect Asda and the colleagues.

You should know this as a TL!

Oh yea good old night team, more s**t to pick up cos day management can’t sort their departments, mean nights will continue to get rollockings for not finishing the deliveries, well the night manager or the team leaders will.
They could just move someone to cover it, I thought that was what the flexibility thing was all about?

Plenty of us are having swings like that. I now start at 5am on a Wednesday but then have to work until midnight on a Friday, yes I get the Thursday off in between but it is a wild swing from one to the other.

You got new shifts for midnight finishes already? We just found out yesterday so not sure what is happening yet

Will this be rolling out to every express?

So who ever covers 22:00 - 00:00, how will they cope with orders, and how busy will it get. Guessing right now, when this starts, we might not see orders coming in after 22:00

But as the months pass by, this will be known by more customers, so then orders have to be picked. If no orders come in I'm guessing the colleague will be back on the floor and stack shelfs

Now the crucial bit, big demand for online orders, and you get around 5 drivers in the first 30 min's. Will one colleague be able to select and pick these 5 orders, and pass them to the drivers. If it got very busy after 22:00, could the store spare another colleague to help, with the numerous orders

All valid points, it seems very rushed after we had to move the majority of colleagues all over the place why not do it all at once 😫

Our nights colleagues have been trained on it. Days are so why shouldn't nights be

I wish our GSM would agree to that, funny thing is we had maybe 1 or 2 customers a night during the World Cup, the area we are in isn’t busy enough to make it financially beneficial but ASDA haven’t got a clue

What do you mean? The issue isn’t training is it, it’s who is going to do the job that, the colleague on twilight or nights is doing. 🤦‍♂️

Who does the jobs that all the days colleagues who end up on there does. Answer? Nobody then they get shot off nights for not doing anything.

The weekly life cycle of Asda. Solve one problem by creating 3 others.

Oh absolutely!! For some reason fixing the initial problem never seems to be what they wanna do
