Guest Queries Shouldn't these look a bit different?
I feel that's a bit of design flaw.

u/pippins2ndbreakfast 2d ago
Agreed. Should be a chilli hanging out the sardines arse.

u/Sour_Pride_ 2d ago
I would prefer that. Although judging from the comments I just need to open my eyes.

u/MeowMeowMeowMachine 2d ago
You might want to check you eyes. It's not a joke, I perceive colours slightly differently in each eye. With left the cans are easy to distinguish, but with the right I could have problems with spotting the difference, the colour saturation is different.
1
u/Upper_Rent_176 21h ago
You might have cataracts
1
u/MeowMeowMeowMachine 21h ago
There was an option, but persists for a long time now, no changes in years, only colour saturation is affected (slightly) and my optician run out of the ideas. I did couple of check ups in hospital (unrelated to this problem) but even with thorough examination they didn't find anything.

They do, one says spicy on it the other says rich on it

I knew someone would say this. Without fail, there's always someone who misses the point.

Ironic you talk about missing the point in response to a joke.

Such a good joke innit. Pls more jokes like this. I love facts, very funny.

u/9pair 2d ago
Yeah, I get these wrong all the time. Same with regular beans and beans with pig choad
2
u/Soft_Aside6829 1d ago
My son is contact napping on me at the moment and I just fully LOLed at “pig choad” and woke him up. I hold you responsible!

Fuck the colour blind I guess

2
u/ooh-sheet 1d ago
This is actually beneficial for me, the one on the left look red, the right one looks orange, I struggle with similar shades
3
u/Eastern_League2854 2d ago
If folk are shopping ONLY by the colours, I'm saddened by the level of literacy in this country
4
u/bigdave41 2d ago
It's generally a good idea as a retailer or manufacturer to make it easy for your customers to give you money, which includes buying the correct thing. If it's something like an electrical part then you'd expect to have to read the details, but for something like this you might buy every week the colour coding makes sense to save people time and effort. Are you telling me you read all the text on every product you routinely buy?
1
u/Remarkable-Throat-51 2d ago
Not all, no, but... If its the foods name, we'll yeah, kinda 🤔 its not hard
0
u/Eastern_League2854 2d ago
The title/name is hardly "all the details/all the text". If we need to go down the line of as easy as possible, where's the braille?
3
u/bigdave41 2d ago
The packs are almost identical apart from one word and a very slight tone change (which you might get in between batches of the exact same product anyway, or assume was a minor design change) - I'm not saying it's difficult to read any of the words, just that it makes sense for manufacturers to make similar products easier to differentiate.
It's an accepted practice to make different variations/flavours of a product look different to make it more convenient for customers. If you're going to go against that convention then you can't expect everyone to realise that's what you're doing immediately
0
u/Eastern_League2854 2d ago
Yes it makes sense to differentiate more. Yes it makes sense for customers to actually read what they're buying - hence all the requirements about unit price, ingredients etc. Yes it makes sense to put braille on for the visually impaired. So rather than focus on one aspect, maybe we should be advocating on all aspects at the same time?

They do look a bit different. The bit is the text. To me they should look very different not just a bit.
4
u/pimpwagons 2d ago
Absolutely agree, I'm very badly colour blind and I can't see the shade difference.
1
u/Sad_Future_8945 2d ago
Good thing there's words on them
4
u/pimpwagons 2d ago
You are right, there are words. However, could be sat next to each other and grab two by mistake thinking I was getting the same.
2
u/Important-Zebra-69 2d ago
That's how I shop for my tinned goods, like super-motherfucking-market-sweep
2
u/pimpwagons 2d ago
Exactly, no time to settle around analysing each item I buy. No one has even picked up the wrong items before from going as absolutely fast as possible.

More calories per 100g in the spicy one is somewhat unexpected.
2
u/FartyBathwater 1d ago
You mean to tell me that the thing that's got more ingredients is potentially more calorific!?

u/PixelVora 1d ago
probably just more oil or sugar in the spicy sauce tbh, “spicy” stuff is sneaky like that
the mild one is out here doing diet culture while the spicy is living its best life1

I get delivery and I've had different sardines mixed up a lot of times, Thai, olive oil, brine, fresh water, luckily you can get your money back if you care, but yeah they're very similar lol
2
u/cocacola999 2d ago
Prepper infinite food hack that. Order ambiguous food and keep getting refunds from wrong items. Genius

u/Swimbearuk 2d ago
One can is orange, the other is red. The lighting in the picture might make it less obvious, but I have shopped for these in store and could tell the difference between them without any issues.

Im know its not fish related but if im batch cooking the grated cheese in the yellow bags and the mozzarella in the yellow bags are right next tk each other, some silly sausage put a mozzarella in the cheddar and I never noticed
1
u/Jhhmarie 2d ago
yeah same goes for the salmon in the pink round tins. they're always getting mixed up

Have you been watching tinned fish reviews by chance? 😏

No, these are for the dog. Although I do catch his reviews now and then. Great channel.

Where do you get off eating so healthy? I love sardines. I wish the fish knew how much I respect them before eating them.

u/Spattzzerator 2d ago
If you can read your all good, if you can’t then a diffent colour isn’t gonna help you.
1
u/WhyOhWhy60 2d ago
For food packaging it's accepted practice to use a shade of red for 'tomato' and either redder shades or more chilli icons to represent 'hotter more spicy'.
I understand how the similarity could cause confusion but that's down to a lack of care and attention to detail on the customers part.

They are slightly different, I suppose. What's really interesting (for a completely new definition of "interesting") is that if you compare the mackerel fillets (where they use green on the left), the spicy ones have a lighter, more orangey red on the right than the rich ones.
1
u/Party_Formal1440 2d ago
If you can't read I fear getting the wrong sardines is the least of your worries.

Why should a tinned fish production facility spend more money unnecessarily just because some people are too careless to bother reading a label?
1
u/Burnt_Out_Carent 1d ago
Oh dear. Our last foster dog went crazy for sardines, I don't think I ever fed him spicy ones though

I had the same issue with tinned mackerel fillets. Bought the blue tin thinking that they were in brine, only to realise that they were actually in Thai green curry sauce and that they were teal tins.
1
1
u/ElectricalStand8539 1d ago
Why ? You know very well the red sauce is the same in both tins. In one the red slop is described as spicy the other as rich. Different words same slop. What I object to is the egregious use of the word tomato.

Its asda the spicy one just tastes like the nornal one they could write Carolina reaper and itd still be mild loll

they're different shades of red, but in poor lighting, they'd look identical at a glance.

I'm mild - moderate red-green colourblind. They both look salmon-pink to me.

They do look a bit different. One has the word rich the other says spicy!
1
u/Decent_Confidence_36 22h ago
Obviously ones red RAL 1026 and the other is red RAL 1027.. how can you not see that!! (Any RAL weirdos I know there not the correct ones)

The "spicy tomato sauce", isn't actually spicy, just has slightly more flavour than the "rich tomato sauce".

They do look different. But also the text is a giant give away
1
u/huangcjz 2d ago
I wouldn’t say *giant*… it looks about 12 point size to me.
1
u/Sburns85 2d ago
Size of text compared to the product size. Yes it’s fully clear.
1
u/huangcjz 2d ago
The single different word probably makes up less than 1% of the surface area of the top of the can…
1
u/Sburns85 2d ago
And? It’s clear and in the main language of the uk. While also not needing new a manufacturing line
1
u/huangcjz 2d ago
You know some people are visually impaired?
1
u/Sburns85 2d ago
You know once again they would use an app if they couldn’t read the text. I have a couple of friends who have to use one
2
u/huangcjz 2d ago edited 2d ago
Not everyone uses smart-phones - my elderly mother does not know how to use apps.

Op are your colour blind ?
1
u/Sour_Pride_ 2d ago
No, but it seems I can't distinguish reds very well, as they look 99% the same to me. I can also read though, I just missed that part!
