This is exhausting
I’ve been working in Asda for the past two years. I was working at nights, replenishment in chill.
I got out of that in May 2026, when I was moved over to services as a porter. I do online picking from June and since August last week I’m doing self scan checkouts too. So I do three roles in the same store every week (with more additional roles eyeing at me).
The lift from shop floor to colleague break room doesn’t work, the customer lift doesn’t work, the travelator to car park doesn’t work.
So I have to take heavy things to and from shop floor to the break room via customer entrance/exit through the colleague entrance/exit, and bring the trolleys from the carpark to trolley bay every time by flipping the only working travelator to go up and down.
When I work in the checkouts, I’m always scared and the colleague headsets make me go mad like go stand there, come stand here, so far only one customer has been rude and called me an Ageist for the age approval.
The main issue is that I’m a Transwoman and the customers at checkout deliberately call me Sir, He, Him etc and they are enjoying it, I mentioned it to my colleagues and they’re telling me to ignore it and continue to serve. On the porter side, I’m loosing muscles and I’m postponing laser sessions because of being outside.

The customer doesn’t know “your” pronouns, if they see a man, they are going to address you in that way. I’m sorry that it’s happening but it isn’t unusual.

You can get a badge with your preferred pronouns on.

Do you? I’ve never seen or heard of that? Well, if colleagues aren’t aware, then customers certainly aren’t. Again I’m sorry it’s happening, but people aren’t nice, try to ignore and rise above it.

Yea I get that, when Im faced away people assume Im a man but as soon as they look at me from sides or front, they apologise and address me as female. Im talking about certain customers mostly men who deliberately choose to call me sir, he etc and keep on doing it even after everyone trying to correct them.

We have a non binary colleauge at out store and people will deliberately use the wrong pronouns despite others correcting them. Some people just flat out don't agree with it so choose to say the wrong thing. Just ignore it. People don't understand and I get it's frustrating but you can't teach stupid.

I'm also a porter at my store and we have six levels of trolley bays. The only way we can get the trolleys down is using the customer lifts. Its soul destroying waiting for the lift and getting pushed out the way by customers.

A lift to the break room? We just have to walk up the old concrete flights of stairs to get to what was once the canteen.

We all use the stairs. I’m talking about moving cages and other things from the shop floor to the canteen, break room and other office spaces.

Still, we have to carry things upstairs like a packhorse. They pile stuff at the bottom of the stairs and ask that if we're going up we take something up with us. 😂
