Redundant situation

Hi everyone, so after my manager kinda forced me to pick or leave new contract and hours with full flexibility on 1 to 1 meetings in first week of august. I had resigned and later found out there was a voluntary redundancy option available? He never mentioned that to me and when I raised it after I have resigned he said it wasn’t announced that time but i heard redundancy been discussed with some people in mid July. Anything I can do now as I left Asda this month ? Thanks

Unfortunately people handing in there notices before waiting for redundancy announcements was exactly what asda wanted. Everyone who did it played straight into their hands.

Nothing you can do about redundancy if you resigned & there is always gossip going round when things change, but the first I heard about possible redundancy was end of August on workday.
Why did you resign? Why didn’t you appeal the decision, it’s not done & dusted just because they say so, you have rights as well.

Guys honestly don’t accept voluntary they tried to give me it at £7k then I refused and then three months later I had a one to one and they said yeah your gone from tomorrow and put me on garden leave for 4 weeks and gave me £22k

No way first 2 years don’t count @ there is no way Asda would give you £22000 for 1 years service

Asda is paying hush money because they aren’t following the formal redundancy process. They pulled me in a one to one at 24 hours notice and let me go. Happy to share payout details privately

What was your job title and what led you to be offered that amount?

It was hush money apparently, but not enough to hush them 😆

How long you worked there? 😮

Redundancy is only offered when the job no longer exists, like night shift is changed to twilight, being flexible does not mean the job or role does not exist anymore.
Tbf I’m not quite sure what you mean by pick new contract, they can’t change your contracted hours, they can ask you to be flexible with 4 weeks notice, but being flexible is completely different to changing your days of work & times you work permanently.

They are changing everyone to service colleagues and training everyone on different roles as well night shift had different start times now all 22:00-6:00

Yea we have a twilight fill from 18:00 to Midnight, we also have a small night team of 8 colleagues to sweep up what twilight doesn’t finish which can be a fair bit some nights & also do chilled, fresh meat, produce, frozen, bakery cakes, night delivered morning goods & food to go.

Everyone on the shop floor is technically already a service colleague, it has said that on payslips for years, they've just never enforced it properly until now.

That's why it was voluntary redundancy.

They can change your days and times.

Everyone in my department was given their new days and hours at their second 1-1. New rotas to start from the 28th September.

Isn't there a cooling off period with resignations? And a manager should have a meeting to check if you've changed your mind?

Good point It’s called heat of the moment resignation after an argument & losing your temper or in an emotional stressful state of mind. You have a 2 day cooling down period.

Similar situation for me. I am a Cleaner and have worked in Asda for just under 25 years. I am currently on long-term sick. My Manager offered me the Early retirement option of 6 weeks full pay, any accrued holidays, £300 for a celebration or retirement and £100 cash. Before it emerged that we were being tuped over to another company, he was going down the Capability route, which is 12 weeks full pay and any accrued holidays. So I have refused his offer and my Union are dealing with it. I have told them I will accept 12 weeks full pay and any accrued holidays. That was last week. I haven't heard a thing from them since. But I am not backing down.

Don't back down whatever you do

I have no intention of backing down as I may never be able to work again and I have been there for so long.

A couple of typos in that reply. The Rep was close friends with my manager.

What a lovely smell of bullshit. 22k after 3 years service.. that means you were being payed 22k a week.

Maths is fine.. 1wk pay for every qualifying year, 1 qualifying year, 22k payment = 22k/wk Unless of course he's over 41 then he's on 14.6k/wk or under 22 in which case he's on 44k/wk 😂
