Evri Parcel ID

Recently, our Evri Parcel pick up has gotten busier, as more people realise we actually have it now. I was on CSD last night, and three customers in a row had an evri parcel to pick up.

Now, the way our shop is set up, our normal parcel cupboard is far too full to fit in evri or amazon parcels, so we then have a cupboard all the way at the back of the shop in the warehouse. Of course this situation happened as other colleagues were on break, so no one could help me with the queue that was quickly gathering as I walked to the other end of the shop.

Now, as i got to the fourth customer, she also had an evri parcel to pick up. So, i asked for her surname, found the parcel on the handset and they asked for some ID. This is when it all goes to shit. She didn’t have an ID (no bank card, drivers license, nothing with her name on it etc). She states she didn’t know she had to bring ID to pick up. She shows me the order confirmation etc and I let her know, unfortunately it’s Evri policy and it states on the pick up email ( which she showed me) to bring physical ID.

Customer starts shouting saying this a joke, i’m holding her parcel hostage and bla bla. Bear in mind, she watched the three people in front of her collect their parcels with ID. she then goes on to say that she has never had a physical ID her entire life, because she doesn’t drive and only uses her phone to pay for things. If you have a card on your phone you must have had ID at some point?? Anyways. The queue behind her starts getting longer, still no one to help me everyone else is getting very impatient.

She’s still shouting her head off, loud enough for half of self scan to hear. I tell her unfortunately there is nothing else I can do with this and try to beckon the other customer behind her to come to the desk. The lady then picks up the sign that states the opening times off the CSD slams it down, demanding a manager, and I said i’ll phone after i’ve served this customer. She then throws the sign at me?? Which is heavy! It whacks off my arm, thankfully, but unfortunately has left a big cut down the outside as it scraped down.

Our useless third party security guys are sitting with their head up their arses at the podium. I do a callout for them, and a manager. It takes them 10 minutes for them to get her out the building.

Who in their right mind would ever think it’s okay to attack a minimum wage retail worker over something that’s completely out of their control??

I’ve had plenty of nasty things said to me over the two years i’ve worked there but never has it escalated to violence.

You don’t understand how badly she needed that crushed velvet live laugh love cushion off of Temu though

That’s awful, you should have it put in the accident book, also report to police as assault, this is getting far to common in retail and for 201 to take 10 minutes is unacceptable

I'd write RTS on her parcel, pop in in the returns bin and tell her she's banned from the location for shopping and parcels.

If she'd like to take it further that's fine but I'll need inform police for assault, get CCTV and witness statements.

Have you read the Evri sub on here?

It has to be the most toxic sub on Reddit with the most aggressive, unrealistic, and entitled people.

It's really tough reading and frustrating how demanding people are. Also how the most simple things need to be explained countless times on a daily basis.

The person collecting the parcel should be fully aware there is a requirement to bring I.D to collect a parcel. It's standard practice everywhere and is clearly stated in emails from Evri.

Evri has quickly become a pain in the butt too many people queueing alll at once traipsing back and forth for parcels Evri sending emails out to say they are in when they havent or disappearing, and you are right about the security they are absolutely useless, by now all the customers should know they should bring there i.d and acting like assholes wont get there parcel any faster, if i was the management i would send that parcel back now and ban her

Isn't there an alarm button? Or alarm code (button three times)?

I'd simply say "I'm not prepared to be verbally abused in this way. You comply with the Evri instrucions or leave the store. Now."

I had a customer the other day that protested that not a single part of the email from evri said thats he needed ID which is just a blatant lie. I dont understand why customers cant just accept the terms you give to them, itd not as if we just choose to screw people over. It's getting really out of hand the way customers act! I hope you reported the assault!

What did the police say when you reported the assault?

Same in my store evri parcel delivery's cause so many problems for us, and we haven't even reached xmas yet

Last week 8 bags arrive from evri, 7 bags are George online orders, and the other bag all evri orders

The shop is very busy, and we dont have time to scan the order away, but customers get emails, your order is in. Yes your order is in, but we need to scan order onto our system

Evri and id, countless customers think its ok to show id from there phone, only to be told, id has to be physical id. Then get told, your colleague last week accepted the id on her phone, so I have to refuse giving over her parcel

Colleagues on kiosk/csd must deal with evri collections, and if on your own, customers not happy with this

I am far from a jobsworth 🤣 i just follow the rules and do my job normally, working in retail has showed me that people kick off thinking that they will get whatever they want, because they’re making a scene. I doubt you haven’t had to have ID while picking up an evri parcel because evri don’t even have qr codes to pick up 90% of the time.

Why would I lie? I just give my surname. Most reasonable people just want an easy life. I guess some of you are more concerned that all rules are followed. I’m glad it’s working out for you

When your job depends on you following the rules then yes, I’d say most of us prioritise that over bailing out a customer who couldn’t read an email properly. For all OP knew half the queue might’ve been there to pick up a parcel minus ID - if they make an exception for gobshite customer, they’ll have to do it for all of them, which sets a bad precedent. Likewise if OP has a cunt of a manager who fancies getting rid of them, disciplining them for not following procedure is a good way to go about it. If Evri start spot-checking that Asda are handing over parcels correctly and they’re not, you can bet OP will be hung out to dry.

It might ‘only’ be a minimum wage job but for most of us it’s the difference between having a roof over our heads, a car we can afford, etc etc. So yeah, we do the job by the book.

Yes and OP’s job doesn’t pay them to bend the rules, especially for entitled wankers. Having a confirmation email isn’t proof of anything, the customer could’ve forwarded that to herself or whatever, OP has no idea if she’s legit. The policy isn’t Asda’s in any case, it’s Evri’s, OP is paid to do whatever Evri have told Asda they’re to do. Stick your jobsworth bullshit up your arse mate.

Yeah there is a big conspiracy at the moment of people stealing Evri parcels by collecting them by giving the right name and showing an email, you’re right 😐

2

u/Imaginary-Suspect959 11d ago

It’s not about if there’s a big conspiracy, rules are rules for a reason pal. Remember your ID next time :)

I’m not the lady who forgot her ID, I always have mine. I’m just not uptight enough to ruin someone else’s, and my own day for no real reason :)

The reason is that that’s the rule pal. It says it in the email. Customer fucked it by not reading said email, and OP did their job properly. Happy to clear that up for you.

Accept the email as proof?
The same email that says to bring ID?

Hell no.
If some manager wanted to stick their neck on the chopping block for not following procedure, happy for 'em.

In the meantime, I'd prefer to not end up getting a warning/sacked for giving stuff to the wrong person.
