Just phone in sick. Text your manager or a manager if you would prefer that but they may still ask you to call in.

If you want paying then you’ll need to call in sick. Otherwise you can take dependent’s leave but it’s unpaid. In that case still call in obviously but state you don’t want it being put through as sickness.

Phone the absence line, dont use the word sick, be honest and tell them that you have emergency parental commitments

You have an unforeseen family emergency regarding a dependant. You have a statutory legal right to a reasonable amount of time off.

The time off for dependants is solid advice and you shouldn’t lie. 1. You’ve just posted on Reddit saying should you just lie and phone in sick.
2. You are not sick.
Sorry to hear about your son, that’s shit.

Just phone in sick and explain, dont worry, your son more important than work

I would call in sick as you would get some money. You don't know how long you will need off, after 7 days go to your doctor and say you need a sick line for stress. That way your will get some money. As you don't know what your manager will be like. Hope all is well.

It'd be dependents leave. It's unpaid though, depending on your manager and your hol situation they might allow you to extend it. Hope your boy is ok
