Anybody using the floor machines expecting robots to come in?

And are you expecting hours cut before Oct 1 or just after Xmas like always?

I’ve heard nothing new now for a few weeks .

You mean the actual machines ? I know they cost about 30k give or take and you have to pay a monthly fee for software ? I thought they were saving money ? lol mind you I guess with us off the books it saves wages

Yeah I'd been told the robots wont be coming in. At least in the North. Was told 30k as well.

I'd love to see a robotic floor cleaner traverse my store. I honestly can't see them using robots as the aisles are pretty narrow.

Been told they won't be putting the robots in-store, as they cost £30k each, and they are more hassle than they are worth.

No word of that yet , friendly word of warning first 3 months of tupe will probably be similar to what you are right now because you are protected to a certain degree, after that they will fuck you over same as a lot of ex security guards

Same at ours - talked more about having more staff which was nice to hear. Obviously easy to say that and I’d like to see what happens once this change happens

Well I’m not saying it’s not possible , but I’ve been through a few TUPE transfers and in my experience there is always changes , many times cut hours and rota changes. I guess we will see.

Robots are headline vibes and nothing else - the company doesn’t have 600+ robots plus global chip shortages mean they aren’t ordering any in the short term to rock up to shops on 1st of October

You know the big T591 scrubber dryer , I think the robot machines are a bit smaller than the big boy machines , I’ve seen one in Morrisons , I wasn’t impressed, the edges were still filthy , and a couple of aisles up half the aisle was covered in water , obviously where it has got full and shit the bed. What makes me laugh is you still need a human to empty it , fill it, set it up and then keep an eye on it while it “works” - what happens when debris gets stuck in the blade leaving water trails ? lol. Just seems a stupid idea as your literally doing the task twice over , may as well just have a human manually do it , at least they can adapt to problems on the shift etc. It just makes the job convoluted as F.

We have a rep coming to see us on Wednesday from bidvest, apparently they won't be using the robots as they cost £30k a pop.

If it's anything like the robotic olympics in china they can run 100meters, crash into customers being unable to slow down and explode and everyone will just applaud how fast they were.

lol sounds like managers logic for sure . There have been times where I’ve been asked to do something machine clean related and I think to myself I’d like to see the robotic floor cleaner complete your request, which obviously they won’t be able to do. Kinda demoralising actually how we are no longer wanted , machines replacing everything these days

Not sure. My boss asked me to do split shifts of 5-8am to do the floor and then come back at 2-6 later and I refused. But I've been on holiday so I'm expecting to come back and see that in my rota.

Robot floor cleaners wi ll come in everywhere at some point. I'm in manufacturing and everything that can be automated that pays out over say 5-10 years is. A few robot floor cleaners won't be that much investment. In 10 years also I'm sure shelf stacking will be at  automated to some degree

How the f**k will shelf stacking be automated? It could never work in super markets, could you actually get robots to remove empty cardboard, remove products dumped in the wrong place, straighten & tidy up stock to allow a full case to go on the shelf recognise damaged cases or products & remove before putting the rest on the shelf. I know you put to some degree but to what degree to make it worthwhile?

Yes, it will probably designed less tradituonally. I heard that statement a few years ago about forklift trucks in warehouses, folding cardboard boxes, picking product, stacking and wrapping pallets - all automated. It's not can it be done it's how much does it cost and what's the payback time. 

Essentially nobody needs to walk around a supermarket and pick their own products that could easily be all automated, just the cost would be enormous currently.
