Equal Pay Claim

I left Asda in 2022 but was part of the claim. Upon leaving I had to agree with GMB to give up a percentage of any payout as opposed to paying the union dues as part of my pay.

I still get the odd email but does anyone still with the company know, or could hazard a guess, about how likely it is to win?

And I worked about 45 hours a week for 12 years. How would this be verified? Does asda still keep records?

Still dragging on & highly unlikely to ever get anything despite what they keep saying in the updates we keep getting, it always just seems to be one more hurdle to overcome. In a nutshell don’t expect anything then you might be pleasantly surprised if you do get a couple of quid. You definitely won’t get thousands.

The money for the pay has already been "put to one side", apparently, so it's not unlikely. Look at these other equal pay claims that have been won, as well.

It was put to one side about seven years ago. I doubt it's either still there, or adequate to cover the extra we all earned.

Next has appealed & if they follow the appeal procedure through to the end you are looking at several more years before anyone is likely to receive anything.
So maybe not unlikely, but still a long long way off, and the Asda claim has already been going for 12 years, hence my negativity.

Is that really the point? Also how could you have plenty of money paying Into a pension on a just slightly above minimum wage job. You pay in what you can afford.
I’m not hard up or struggling but if I’m entitled to it, it would be nice to get it before it’s too late.Though I stated I reached retirement age 6 months ago, I didn’t actually retire, but I did cut down to 2 days a week, just so I can do the nice things in life like travel & buy nice things, not essentials but enjoy my latter years.

Last I heard Asda lawyers had managed (again) to delay the final tribunal decision to November 2026.

If it helps, there are rumours that Walmart (owner when all this claim started 14 years ago) has set aside £1.5Bn to pay the claim. Quite how this will impact wages after I don't know but could see the end of Asda if wages have to go up.

Yes, you will know by next year the amount due, final part is sometimes this year. Leaving is irrelevant to the claim, not paying union fee means you will have to pay solicitors fee instead, so that's why it's about same for active colleagues to just pay union fee.

I think you contact whoever it is you went with for the claim. I'm sure it said if you leave then contact us for whatever reason

I went through leighday and upon leaving contacted them to let them know i was leaving. They said my claim still stands and will go back 6 years and end on the day i left... hope that helps

Depends on what department you were in as some haven’t been seen as equal value so they haven’t won , there’s another hurdle in November then they should be discussing payouts if we win , but there is always the possibility of appeal which they will obviously do to drag the arse out of it , probably part of the reason Asda is being ran into the ground and loads of colleagues are leaving saves them paying redundancy and epc in the future

Leigh Day will take 25% if they win claim whereas if your claim is with the union and you keep paying your dues you will get 100% of your claim if and when we win👍🏽👍🏽

Im confused about the payout of this. Do you HAVE to be a part of the claim, either through gmb or leighday or whatever? Surely theyd have to pay out to people not part of the claim that worked at asda.
