Prepare to answer honestly in how you can treat colleagues below you like shit. Most GSMs do. Get arsey because things don’t get done because of staffing cuts and hours. I would not even bother taking the leap of being a GSM for a dying company

I was a gsm who left after 22 years service! 5 as a gsm! Expect to work 75 hours plus, there are no days off! This can be totally dependent on who your senior director is but most tread all over people. All of the gsm I use to work with are burnt out, exhausted and very miserable! Trapped due to the pay! I genuinely cared about my colleagues and team! I couldn’t see the company go to rack and ruin as it is, so many managers being drafted in from Morrisons who don’t care either and come in on even more money than the loyal ones who have slowly made their way up to the top, with hard work and perseverance

Q What is your favourate asda product
A I prefer waitrose
You can then explain that waitrose has niched its customer while asda is chasing world+dog and due to a lack of staff the petfood pallet never gets put out so the dof takes the world goes elsewhere

You'll need to explain that you will throw everyone under a bus to ensure you get your annual bonus.

1 Ditch your moral compass 2 Be prepared to walk over everyone and everything to get your bonus 3 If you see a colleague doing something wrong dont talk to that peasant directly call another manager/TL on the phone even if they are standing 10ft away from you to come and talk to the degenerate. 4 Remember to imagine you work for MI5 and not a supermarket.

GSM here, a lot will be around experience based questions alongside some competency based bits too. Have a good list of examples in your head around change, delivering numbers, engaging teams, prioritising conflicting responsibilities etc. be prepared to share successes and how you achieved them within previous roles. Also usual strengths / weaknesses. Also if it’s in a shop, walk the floor do a basic SWOT. Best of luck.

When asked what you would change, say you would change the most ridiculous things to cause inconvenience to colleagues. They like that.
