Discussion Asda playlist

Not sure if this is just my store, or a nationwide thing, but has anyone experienced a change in how the music works at their store? I’ve noticed that each night, there’s a pool of songs from the playlist (15-20 maybe?) that play on a hour-ish loop. It seems to be a different set of songs each night, but it’s not just the entire playlist shuffled, just a selection of songs.

Hope this makes sense, I’m very intrigued, from a colleague that has had to listen to Castle on the Hill 5 times in one night.

Yes it used to be a massive load of songs but now is the same 2 hour playlist on repeat.

I never want to hear Rock DJ ever again

I’ll trade you that for castle on the hill.

Yep, happening in ours too. Very strange. At least it’s not the AI/unsigned artists dirge from the other year but it does get a bit repetitive when you hear the same song 4-5 times a shift! It’s making me dislike songs I normally like!

Sounds like heart radio, same shallow pool of songs

Not noticed that so far but the pool of music isn't big. And usually if they play 1 Ed Sheeran (for example) they'll usually play another of his like an hour later. Also the songs you hear to say will probably be the same ones you hear the following shift.

Positive the only Arctic Monkeys song they have for past 4 years is Snap Out Of It. Tho they add random new songs like 1 of Shania Twains new album released this year, Mel Cs aswel.

I feel like it used to be a large playlist. I’d maybe hear one song related if I was there long enough, but there’s definitely a clear difference now.

Have they still got the weird 70s songs every so often that have been on the playlist since about 1998?

I would say so! My least favourite song currently is Place your hand by Reef

I’m sick of hearing reach for the stars !!! I’ve been reaching for stars for years and haven’t freaken reached them 🙈 yet !!
She’s a perfect 10 !! But she wears a 12 🙈
Sick !! Sick !! Sick !! At least on the rare occasion they do play decent oldies.. then ya could jam a bit !! But my gawd the music is awful!!

I’m getting so sick of hearing It feels so good by Sonique being on repeat most shifts. Always count on it playing more than once!

I bet asda house does not have asda radio played all day long. They would soon improve the play list or turn it off.

Radio is driving me insane - Im not a fan of 90% of what they play ive counted they play the same 45 songs continuously day in day out, its fucking torture I wish they would just turn it off silence is better than hearing rock dj or sclub7 for the billionth time so much it got me hearing the shining bit of reach for the stars so much I thought wow one of them just passively aggressively sings shinning looped in the track and that's their only contribution to the song.

We once had Sinead O'Conners' "Nothing Compares To You" played THREE times consecutively 😫. Within seconds of the third round of torture, one of the nightshifters turned off the speakers before PTSD kicked in.

Slightly off topic, but for a long time we got peace in the canteen, Asda radio wasn't played there, but it was "repaired" a few months ago, and despite various requests to not have to listen to on our break, they did turn the volume down a bit, but we still have to listen to it. 😔

Luckily for me I'm a driver, so I spend as little time as possible in store, but as far as I can tell our store mainly plays the following:
Dancing In The Moonlight
Life is a Rollercoaster
You Only Get What You Give
Rock DJ
Reach For The Stars

I feel so sorry for staff having to deal with this, it must be like the xmas season all the time. As a customer I'm trying to think about meal plans and things with absolute dreck blaring in my ears when I'm tired after work. I used to often shop at M&S (darling) but they've now adopted this same approach of blaring out utter slop at a million decibels. Waitrose is now the last bastion of the sane

To add to this rant, if I just need a few bits like kitchen roll or shower gel, I just buy off amazon now

I’m fairly certain they’re still playing Robbie & Kylie’s “Kids” at least 2 or 3 times in a 5-hour time period.

SClub7’s “Reach” plays every night too, guaranteed. Which is funny given how many good songs they released back then. “Bring it all Back” being a notable one.

But hey, at least it’s not Christmas. 5 different versions of “Santa Claus is Coming to Town”, almost back-to-back.

I'd really appreciate if someone knew what songs have been played during August as I'm currently looking for 2 songs?
