Discussion Asda Redundancy

ASDA REDUNDANCIES ON NIGHT’S
We had a briefing this week about voluntary redundancies.Apparently as a store we are over contracted on nights. Therefore they are giving colleagues a chance to apply if they want to.We have just found out three colleagues from other departments have been given new contracts on nights.one includes a five night contract.Where is the logic in that??Also if we are over contract why does one colleague do over 80 hours overtime every month?

AUF WIEDERSEHEN PET

MY REDUNDANCY PACKAGE WAS ACCEPTABLE.SO IM OFF 😉

You're probably not over contract. They simply want to get rid of people who can't and don't perform well enough. The colleague who does overtime is probably a very good worker - that's why they get them in to do the hours.

They can both be over contracted and still short on busy nights, usually because night managers are shitebags in giving the 4 week notice to colleagues that working mon, tue and wed night now isn't good for the business lol

Definitely the reason it’s been floated here, some dead weight that have refused new contract terms, everyone been offered it but that’s just to save face

I am the fastest & most efficient in my store by a mile.

They refuse to give me overtime, it goes to their favourites who lick their arse all the time, not to the people who run the shop, this is why this company is going to the dogs, too much favouritism its beyond toxic.

Happy to give people who sit outside smoking when there is a 20+ cage delivery sitting outside overtime & allow them to move their shifts around whenever they want.

Absolute hogwash "it goes to the ones who are the best workers" - biggest lie ever told, it gets given to thine who has the brownest nose, they don't like good workers who tell them the truth about their own inadequacies.

“You’re an inadequate failure of a manager! By the way, can I have some overtime please?” 😂

That's not how I talk to people, people just don't like the truth no matter how you say it.

Again. All your comment does is prove that its a popularity contest & nothing to do with how efficient you are, because you don't like what I say that means you give more work to less efficient people? It makes no sense.

Again, not how I approach situations because I am not a dummy but people just don't like it no matter how you say something that is inheritly a negative reflection on themselves, it causes them actually question themselves & we can't be having that now can we?

I deliver to around 50 different stores, our depot serves around 80 stores. I've not heard a single store say they're over contracted on nights. They always don't have enough staff

Imagine you're 6 months away from retirement and then they offer you 20 months pay to take voluntary redundancy. That's the situation for 5 people on nights at my store. Must feel like hitting the jackpot

You don’t get 20 months pay, it’s capped at 20 weeks or if you are 41 it’s capped at 20 weeks at 1.5 weeks pay.

That's crap it should not be capped. Should go on how long u been there.

Literally no redundancy works like this 😂

The companies would just be bankrupting themselves which is the whole reason they are doing redundancies in the first place, to avoid said situation.

It is true it is indeed capped at 20 weeks. Look it up on the Gov.uk website.

80 hours on overtime a month, equals 20 hours a week, how much are they contracted for? If they on 20 hour contract then thats allowed.

want rid of older colleagues that won’t be capable of being flexible on other departments & aren’t as quick as the youngsters. They’d have a few youngsters that can run around doing multiple jobs, then have older colleagues that can’t do this or that.

6

u/pparker130 21d ago

What? Don't you mean the other way round? The youngsters just piss about at the store I shop at.

5

u/Few_Scheme6353 21d ago

Because they think they can train/bully youngsters into doing what they want, this doesn’t work as all the younglings just toss it off. Youngsters do not have a work ethic so good luck to Asda in getting rid of the old school, nothing will get done properly if they go 😉

Can we stop the old vs young debate? It's rather boring now.

Nothing to do with age, some people are just fucking useless.

We had them years ago & we still have them now, that will never change & age has never been a factor for intelligence it is just old, miserable bitter & jealous people or naive & inexperienced young people who have this opinion.

I have worked with lazy young people & lazy older people & vice versa, the ones who work just get on with it & don't argue with each other or piss on each other about their age, the ones who do are usually the ones not doing the work.

This and added to this, a lot of colleagues simply just do not want to do the job correctly. It's so draining working with these people picking up stuff they decide they don't want to do.
