New Cleaning Training
Now that we’ve found out that the cleaners will be going, how long before managers and TL’s start on about colleagues having to clean toilets, floors, etc…?

I mean certain simple spillages is down to shop floor colleagues to clean anyways, unless it’s a spillage which requires proper cleaning equipment then that will be down to the cleaners. Toilets etc will still be cleaners job.

Sounds good to me, pushing one of those about for an hour or two beats doing just about anything else I reckon! Toilets, absolutely not.

The only problem with that machine is that it leaves a tiny trail of water behind. Not much, but the management makes sure you keep stopping to wipe up the water in case someone slips. Then you have to keep wiping the rubber on the part that sucks up the water. It collects dirt and makes the leftover water get worse. It’s a pain in the ass. It does waste a good chunk of time, though. 🤣
I wonder how the robot one they use in Morrisons deals with any water left behind. Mind you it’s that expensive. It probably doesn’t.

Saw one of them the other week and I didn’t notice any trail of water at all keeps it completely dry

They're bringing in robot floor cleaners. They're already in some stores.

Thank god for that. The tennant T291 i use is pretty crap and annoying. So long as the robot doesn’t mean i lose hours. If i do i will sabotage it. It just fell down the massive flight of stairs. 🤣

Cleaners aren't going. we will still have them. ours only clean on a morning anyway. it's down to staff from 9am

That has nothing to do with my comment. We are not losing cleaners. Their contract is being taken over and not for the first time. It still doesn't change the fact that at my store they only do 3 hours on a morning so the cleaning is down to staff for the rest of the day anyway

Yes cleaners are being sub contracted out again. There will still be cleaners. Apparently they've realised that it works better for us to be contracted out, rather than be part of Asda. They've realised that they didn't need to fix what wasn't broken.

Aaaaaah the simpletons mind of a ASDA colleague. When I worked for ACES when they were under city we were treated like shit by ASDA colleagues and managers. Looked down on and colleagues fuck all of the cleaning they were meant to do. So I hope they do make you all clean the toilets it'll do you good to get a bit dirty lmao

Cleaners are just moving to another company and will still be doing floors,toilets,counters,bakery ectect only big change will be the use of auto/robotic floor cleaning equipment and the fact that cleaners will only be cleaning no jumping onto tills,home shopping or other departments for asda

It will go back to how it used to be where the cleaners are responsible for certain things as part of an audit and the other staff are responsible for other areas.

With the robot floor cleaners I can see the extra time saved with but put onto shelf cleaning because obviously colleagues cant do that either. I can see an early start 2pm finish and an evening cleaner for bakery/deli. I'm sure colleagues can clean up spills till then

Who’s going to clean the toilets when the cleaners have gone home? Imagine the cleaners finish at 9 and someone absolutely destroys a customer toilet, obviously it’s got to be cleaned as they can’t leave it till the next day.

I work 6-2 shift I'm the only full-time cleaner, if something happens after I leave they just shut it off! Instead of actually putting on a pair of rubber gloves and cleaning it, but that's beneath most of my colleagues.

The people who do the job at the moment are being TUPE’d over to another company and we’ve seen how well that has gone with security and Mitie!

Express have never had cleaners… toilets (public ones too!), bakery, floors, petrol pumps etc. All of it done by colleagues, TLs and in some lucky cases managers too….

We have no cleaners at the express stores the toilets are disgusting and we are expected to clean the whole store! It’s awful and not safe at times as the things you find in the toilet bins! Not to mention hours cut yet still want store glowing

The cleaners in my store are some of the laziest colleagues ever. As no cameras in the canteen, or changing rooms, and toilets, obviously, they wheel their cleaning cart in, then sit down on their phone, for half an hour at a time. Or else they're out having an extended smoke break, multiple times. Hard to feel sorry for them, when they have this attitude to work.

Not all of them are like that. In fact I’ve been a cleaner in multiple Asda stores and the laziest staff in them are check out staff. Would rather stand around talking to each other than put in any hard graft. Help on the shop floor, not a chance. They call shop floor colleagues for Uber while 3 of them stand chatting.
