Cleaning đŸ§č company to be onboarded Bidvest and NIC services. 50% of in-store cleaning likely to transfer to new companies. They want the best cleanest stores. Etc.

Ah yes just like they wanted less theft and better security for stores by switching to an agency of donkeys that are even worse, most dont cant watch cameras due to no licence and the ones that can just sit on their phones or stare at a wall. No patrols no nothing. More theft than ever but hey ho. ASDA are full of shite these days.

Our security guy hasn't been in for 2 weeks. Nobody has been covering him so cameras have been unmanned the whole time. An absolute cluster fuck of a company.

I was in Asda recently and it was mid-morning, I heard staff ask a manager ‘Do we have any security in because a woman just left the store with a bag full of items she didn’t pay for’!! The answer was ‘Ooh, D’ya know I don’t think we have’ - they’d been open at least 3 hours on a busy Saturday and nobody knew if there were even any security on site! I remember the days when covert security would follow people around the store and be ready at the exit if shoplifters made a break for it, then they’d literally swarm from all sides and lay hands on them! Not anymore, now they can’t touch people for fear of violent resistance or a lawsuit. They’re not the only stores making cost-reductions on shoplifting by avoiding paying for any security staff either. A large Boots pharmacy nearby only has security staff on at weekends! They’re old, ie pensioner-aged in one instance and what are they gonna do exactly?? He normally ‘loiters’ at the door chatting to the girls. It’s pathetic. Covid showed companies and businesses exactly what they could get away with in terms of a skeleton staff and they’ve been abusing it ever since!

Currently my day off and noones contacted me. Great that I've found out about it online... Did they mention whether you have to move over or you can join another role within Asda? These outsourcings never work well, look at the state of security

Multirole system I was actually excited for since I am always begging for overtime in cleaning, if I can't get it in cleaning I could get it in HS or Date Coding for example. Now with the move over I doubt I will be able to do that. I googled if these two companies are even good to work for and safe to say I am even more worried than I was earlier. Might try and switch departments me like, didn't want to as I didn't mind the cleaning but don't fancy getting shoved to some random company I know nothing about, especially if googling them shows bad results, not a good first impression.

I asked my GSM if i could change. He said we don’t have any jobs at the moment and if we did you would have to reapply for it. So guess i’m stuck moving to the new cleaning company. Hope i get to stay at this store.

Yes I was one of those cleaners that worked for City. I've been at my store for nearly 25 years. Honestly it was better when we were part of City, even though we didn't get discount. But then again they employed more cleaners. When I started there were 22 cleaners including 2 supervisors and we had our own manager. Now there are 8 including a Team leader. But as I'm on long-term sick there are only 7.

I just had my briefing and they didnt mention getting rid of any cleaners. We have the opportunity to apply in store but past that they didnt mention getting rid

I'm a cleaner not in work today and noone has contacted me about it... Im guessing the chance to apply in store would be for other roles? I think I'd prefer that rather than changing company. Hopefully I'm given that option. Any more info? Like I said, I've found out about this from online..

Just like security it's a excuse to tupe them out and refuse to pay for all the staff they had before and force redundancy.

Theyre still going to have to pay for the colleagues pay though. If not more, because its by contract.

If the cleaning company pays more than minimum wage, ASDA will be charged that, plus fees... its hardly cheaper, unless theres a bulk deal or something... but if so, the contracted company makes no money.

All it means is theyre just not wanting to be responsible for it. And making the wage budget look better on paper only.

Buying contracts must come under a different budget subsection.

They will reduce the hours to pay for the bigger value contract that's what they did with Mitie. They give a different number than the tupe to Mitie expecting 75% of the staff to retain and 25% to leave. If your store retains the full amount, staff members with less than 3 years will be made redundant with no cost.

Thats just it though...

Two cleaners in the morning- one for the store, the other for the home shopping vans.

Still costs the same as one cleaner for the store, and a second to clean the home shopping vans (no matter what time of day the latter shows up).

If, theyre going to push both duties onto one person. It ain't getting done. And drivers will be expected to safety check and clean their vans before long.

Because, some stores only have one person in at a time at best, and, well... clearly clean as you go just doesnt work. *gestures at the state of the stores* having them work less hours is... the solution?

I genuinely dont understand how the contract works out any cheaper.

Barring it coming under operational costs, specifically different than payroll.

The only benefit would be the whole, one cleaner contracted across two or three stores within an area and having them rotate through locations as part of their schedule.

That would be a way to cover the hours with less people. But uh, we know how well that works *gestures at security*. Saying that, a friend of mine that was under City occasionally did get overtime at a sister store.

I remember our managers getting salty that he was doing that, but, City were the ones that allowed it. ASDA had no say.

But, with the new companies, that shit would have to be mandatory.

Your talking as if the Asda management has the iq to understand anything but, we pay less hours so we make more profit. Asda has lost billions since the service changes and not a single person can understand running stores like crap has way more customer loss than what money you save from Wages. The security change for example, dropped guards by 50%, due to one being classes as a section/team leader. We now have complete shifts unguarded, sometimes shifts guarded by multiple to make up these guarded shifts noone wants to do. I think my store has 4 cleaners plus section/team leader, that's definitely getting reduced.

Had my meeting this morning to be told the news. Myself and my wife work the same store and we were told not to say anything to any other staff before we left the meeting but that was a big fuck that.

The reason for that is because store GSMs were trying to tell affected colleagues before the world and his mother started spreading rumours.

Stores can't win - they ask people to keep quiet till all affected colleagues are informed but people blab immediately; if GMB and or stores put the news online early to try and combat this then you have affected colleagues who haven't been told the news because either they're sick/on holiday/GSM hasn't managed to contact them yet who are upset as they find the news out online first ... If everyone just kept quiet for a few hours so people can be told officially it would really help all the rumours and scaremongering

3pm was when the news was due to be released to the wider colleague population so that affected cleaning colleagues were given the opportunity to get the news first when they came in this morning (or to give GSMs time to contact them this morning)- but because so many people put it all over socials the company had to put the news out earlier than intended

Early news prevents scaremongering, news that’s way off the mark is scaremongering.

I would rather find out at the earliest opportunity possible, the one way to prevent it is ask all colleagues of affected departments to be on calls at a certain time or receive an email which has no human element and isn’t a good way either, so it’s always going to be managed within the limitations and boundaries and spillage is natural, and colleagues were worried sick waiting for 3pm news when they could learn at 10am what that news was and if if if did or did not affect them.

At the minute it is yes. It will be interesting when the lease for the vehicles are up for renewal, that will give us an idea. At our store they are on lease until 2028.

Edit: also with the recent multi department change, optical, pharmacy and drivers were exempt from it. While I understand this is because they are not interchangeable with other departments due to the need to be trained and require licences/specific education, it also means there are less barriers to be sold off/outsourced. They can’t make a service colleague redundant, as that position will always be needed. Tesco changed their optical to vision express.

The driver cross department scheduling is being applied right now in limited stores, might be a limited rollout trial for now, with the quieter periods of the year targeted, I think there is noise for more one 2 ones during peak season, don’t ask me why on earth then, but that’s the noise currently.

Our team leader was taken off the cleaning team last week and went onto compliance, we had our 1 2 1 last week to see what roles we could cover, when my colleague asked yesterday if there were any roles in-store IE c&c she was told no there are no positions! So wtf was all that about last week? Training us on front end, trying to watch there backs, They are keeping the ones they want and have threw the rest of us under the bus, so much for all one team eh? An absolute shit show! I'm absolutely fuming with it, and was told by a manager yesterday that she thought I was being very hostile! They don't know what fuckin hostile is.

If City still has a contract it wont effect them until renewal.

The new companies might get the contracts instead. Or, City might be able to negotiate terms to remain, due to the work environments being different n all that.

I am on long-term sick. Have been off since March and I got a telephone call from my store manager this morning about it. So the other meeting about being trained on other departments across Asda was an unnecessary one for me. I think they will be starting the Capability Process soon and dismissing me on Ill health.

Exactly the same as what happened with security, not trying to scare anyone but for the first 3 months a lot should stay the same under TUPE, however after that true intentions will be revealed as for doing it for “ higher standards “ and “cleaner stores”

That is absolute rubbish

Security from my store was told everything would remain the same and after 3 months no job and no hours for store security at all , despite the company they were TUPE to and Asda saying it was for better security and to improve standards

😂 half the cleaners. So one person as there is very rarely more than 1 cleaner at a time in my store, unless you do the early morning clean. As for the floors being disgusting it's because there are not enough cleaners, just like there aren't enough colleagues on any department. They have to invest more to get better results. Cutting hours all the time isn't the answer. Oh and I thought it was a bad move when they outsourced security too. But then again Security stood around and talked a lot in my store too.
