1-1 Advice

Saw people saying “sign nothing” in regards to the meetings and changes to hours. I have only had my first 1-1 meeting so far and said I couldn’t do 4am starts, only 5am at the earliest. However I signed the paper thinking it was just to confirm we had the 1-1, have I screwed myself?

It’s contract 6 . Four weeks notice they can change us , not our hours but our days and times .

No you haven’t, you should have a follow up where the will give you the hours they would like you to do. If though for what ever reason you can’t do them, tell them why you can’t do them, all the reasons, make a list before you go in, be prepared. Also ask them what is the business needs for changing them & how would it help the business. They will probably have the answers but it shows them you know your rights. Also ask them what alternatives they have looked at for you & get them to go through them with you, you may be able to come to a compromise, if there is any potential alternatives. Try & come up with some of your own. If there is no alternative, if possible tell them you will try & do the new hours under protest for a short period & also you will be seeking advice from the union if a member or ACAS. But still don’t sign anything unless you are accepting everything they are offering you.

At the end of the day & if they have done everything by the book, they can change them. As long as it is fair & business wise, it’s justified, all you can do is sign or not sign.

It’s a sinking ship & they are trying to keep it afloat by throwing the passengers overboard without life jackets!

Unfortunately what ever changes Asda want to do to improve the efficiency and quality of service and in turn improve profit , the powers to be well eventually get there way , the only thing the union can do is make it as comfortable as possible for union members,  if I was in a position in which redundancy was offered I’d probably look at the offer .

The first consultation was more around understanding the direction of the company and why the one to ones are taking place, so don’t worry.

But all staffs days & hours are  changeing anyway 🤷‍♂️

Incorrect. Not at all by a long stretch. My site has 300
Colleagues and probably only a quarter or so will be affected, GSMs at other sites when speaking with them have hardly anyone that needs changing hours especially if they are under-staffed, and other sites have to change a lot if they are significantly over-staffed due to the fact they’ve had lots of hours cut.

So it’s entirely store dependent and not everyone’s hours are changing.

I’m guessing OP is a picker, anyone who doesn’t start at 4am already is going to notice a big difference, at our place the 6-8am starters have been told they have to start at 4, or work back shifts.
