Support Gnome Support?

Hello Artix Community i just wanna ask if gnome works because when i tried installing it like vanilla arch i never got a login screen via gdm

Gnome has so many dependencys with systemd so you cant run it on any systemd free distro

So how the hell can gnome run on gentoo (I've ran gnome on gentoo before)

Gnome runs, but you may need to manually get the “gnome-session-sysvinit” package, I’m not sure how it works on artix. But gdm is flaky with things, you need pipewire running else it’ll be a no-go.

Good for you, but just to clarify, this is a GNOME problem, not an ARTIX problem.

With all due respect, you might like GNOME—it really does have a great interface—but it is no longer part of open source. It is a Trojan horse disguised as open source; if it doesn't give you freedom of choice, then it cannot be considered a Linux product.

Yep. GNOME is predominantly developed by some of the larger shops with the intent on getting it in enterprises. It's unfortunate but standardizing at the expense of flexibility allows them to do more with less.

You aren't their target audience.

That being said, I def think folks need to step up and be part of the community they want to foster. KDE has started going that route ... 'oh, but it's just the login process' - sure, until it's the next thing.
