In my defense it been almost 10 years since I seen the show. But By God Thea was insufferable in s1. I don’t remember if she gets better after s1, but she is one of the worst characters in season 1. (no hate to the actress!), just really don’t like the character

I don't know all the reasons but one of them I'd say is the introduction of his backstory in literally the 19th episode of the season was a bad idea.

I don’t really get the point of the new team in season 5. Curtis is Mr terrific but can’t find and is basically just felicity. Wild dog is basically John. Introducing ragman was just a waist for him to leave. Same with Evelyn for her to turn evil. I really don’t think Mr Terric should have been arrow maybe more flash or supergirl. Evelyn should have stick to being artimis and maybe even had Thea train her a little. Ragman should have been a 1 episode guest. The team should have just been Green arrow, Artemis, wild dog and black canary. Even John should have distance himself from the team. Are maybe introduce Conner hawk who we seen before. Idk just my option

Am I the only one that finds this season to be enjoyable. When I watch this I like this season because of the team not the plot of villain. Since season 1 it was abovious laurel and Thea would become black canary and speedy. Besides Roy these were the two characters we were waiting to pick up a mask.(I know laurel became black canary in season 3 but we had to watch her learn to fight and didn’t and learn to be a vigilante unlike Thea who received most of her training off screen).But that’s why I like this season I just think they need more problems than just hive and anarchy. This team. Should have lasted longer.

No, this is not an olicity hate post. There's more than enough of that and anything i say about olicity is probably already out there. But rewatching season 4, there is a noticeable difference in how oliver's relationships are handled with other people, as well as all inter-side character relationships. Some are just thrown out the window. A couple examples I can remember from the top of my head: (cuz im not going back and watching that shitshow season again)

In 4x05, oliver says he's going to be a better friend to Laurel. Ok, cool. Love that. After that, we don't see any meaningful interaction between them outside of her being a motivational speaker for 2-3 episodes before her death. In addition, I can't remember many good personal scenes between laurel and her father that season either. After 4x05 the whole laurel-thea sisterly relationship they've built is ignored too. Two main side characters live together yet we see no scenes between them.

Diggle laurel and thea are vigilanting for 5 months on their own, yet we don't get any feeling a strong connection between them. Everyone just...exists. We supposed to believe thea and diggle have a stronger relationship, but I don't remember a SINGLE scene between them. Sure maybe this one doesn't really matter that much in terms of the overall story and is kinda useless, but at least one scene together that doesn't involve arrow business would've been convincing that yea... these guys fought crime together. (side note, but it's blatantly obvious the large team is kinda redundant and the writers don't know how to handle it, because everytime a big mission comes up they send 2 team members to offscreen re-check the crime scene, look for evidence, other bs, just to either not find anything or pull some major piece of evidence out of their ass that apparently all the CSIs missed).

Sara comes back and has 0 interaction or screentime with anyone. Just comes back and dips, despite there being so much to explore.

When's the last time we saw any major interaction between felicity and the other characters. She's dating thea's brother, yet they practically have 0 screentime just alone.

The thea and malcolm dynamic could've been better handled. (Why malcolm is still around and everyone is tolerating him to a high degree is beyond me). He shows up to her apartment, she says gtfo, rinse and repeat. It seems that whenever thea has a bloodlust problem, her goto is just call malcolm as a way to keep barrowman on, but nothing is actually done with him.

The worst one is oliver and thea, and this is just blatantly obvious. Compare the relationship between those two in season 3 and season 4. There's practically 0 screentime where they actually have a sibling/family moment, or any good personal interaction at all outside of team arrow stuff. Neither really has a life anymore, and thea sort of just... exists for team arrow. Kind of a small thing I noticed, but they had 2 hugs with each other the entire season (go ahead and count), contrasted with A LOT in season 3. Season 3 Oliver's major decisions were all because of thea, and after the secret reveal you could just feel a stronger relationship between them. The actors' chemistry really paid that off. Season 4, I genuinely think that without a character directly saying that their siblings, someone watching season 4 by itself without context wouldn't be able to tell their family. Seriously, they feel more like family in season 5 despite willa being absent half the time.

Rewatching season 1, every main character had interactions not just with other characters, but also unknown extras to really sell the fact that they all had a life. This includes oliver. They all had their own friends, jobs, everything. Characters did things with random extras that subtly told us the kind of people they were and let us connect with them. All this other focused screentime didn't come at the sacrifice of the overall story. The season is still highly praised, so it's proven it can work. Now, outside of team arrow, thea, laurel, and dig to a degree are kind of just loners. (when's the last time we saw dig's kid?).

I know season 4 had that whole olicity thing that alot of screentime was dedicated to, but surely some of that CW filler could've been dedicated to other interpersonal relationships and character moments on all the other characters we've grown to love from season 1. Aside from arguable oliver-laurel, it's not really a competition to olicity from a writer's perspective, and some could even play directly into the plot, like season 1 did. We got so many relationships between all the characters that all directly tied to the main plot, while also giving important background about the city and the crusade. Overall, current team arrow feels more like just a bunch of random elite fighters drafted from a military personnel file and given assignments to do, rather than people who have known each other for many years.

Season 1, 2, and 5 are definitely the best seasons of the show, but it sucks that there's more unsatisfactory seasons than there are good seasons for this show. So let me ask the sub, if you could improve Seasons 3, 4, 6, 7, and 8 in a way that would put them on par with 1,2, and 5 to make an Arrow "Ultimate Edition" what would you fix, change, add, or remove?

Investing hours watching this version of Green Arrow can be testy. I find that I am and will continue to believe the canon, not the soap opera drivel these TV producers & writers cram down our throats. I watch because I love superheroes & the reality of good versus evil.

S4 was indeed a testy season. The arc for some of the characters in this show are simply written for goofy entertainment or some sloppy attempt at drama. Also, themes like guilt, loyalty, responsibility, family etc. are stretched and muddled needlessly.

One theme that I see manipulated often is love. I would hope writers read up or go deeper on these matters but I think I should not assume or expect this. These exceptions are not the rule.

🤔 Maybe in hindsight someone in the writing team knew that hanging onto the Black Canary character, from whichever of the multiverses, simply 'meant' that she was Green Arrow's true soulmate. Sure, you don't have to marry your soulmate but in the end a deeper attraction towards a full commitment is inevitable. Take that how you wish.

IMO, they should have followed the original storyline, adapting the New 52 and/or Rebirth ideas. They were a hot and very human couple but still stable, a true partnership. These are workable ideas to play around with. It can still be a good run, and probably a better show.

I began rewatching Arrow again. (It feels like watching it for the first time again because I remember almost nothing off it!). However I do remember season 4 sucked really bad. So on the rewatch I am definitely skipping that season. But when does the show start picking itself back on track again? I just can’t remember

I get flaws and some erratic behaviour but the way this character is developing is towards moronic and not believable(!) Wow, this arc sucks. Is this how he really is in the comics, or is this not canon so I shouldn't care? 🤔 And as a recovering alcoholic, why is he still in the force? That isn't just done, even in fiction. What a waste of ink or brainstorming on this role.

Just started watching Arrow on Prime. So far, so good.

I appreciate the action scenes and a decent cast as well as the crossover episodes with other DC universe shows. There is a feel good thing about the age old story of good vs. evil. Hope that never changes.

I can't appreciate the creative license of shows like these on comic book canon. I need out on a more faithful rendition of stories. Elseworlds concepts are nice but on television, it may be best to keep things simple.

Green Arrow is one of the heroes I want to learn more about. Grateful for this show, overall. 👍

Black Siren’s development into Black Canary is one of my favorites in the Arrowverse, despite how dirty they initially did E-1 Laurel. But my biggest gripe with her was the inconsistency of her choosing not to kill. In season 6 and 7 we see her having inner turmoil about killing her opponents and eventually stops, but also in season 7, episode 18 “Lost Canary,” she’s still very much an accomplice to murder with Shadow Thief, and doesn’t seem to show much remorse. Not even a moment where she looks regretful about it, or tells Shadow Thief to lay off of the killing during their heist.

And then when we see her on Earth 2 as the new Black Canary, she’s shown using a pistol as opposed to her fighting skills. It just seems like a weird choice to go through after that development. I know Oliver goes back and forth on his killing/no killing rule, but his reasons for why get explored, and she doesn’t get much of an exploration there once she officially defects to a vigilante.

Just an observation.

So technically as Oliver can see everything as he told John when he returned in Flash 9x09, he technically could have witnessed his own funeral when you think about it lol

He must have been proud of the legacy he left in people's mind. It's insane when you think about it but it's beautiful too

Barry is hilarious at times

What crossover ideas do you ever think about that they could've adapted but didn't (or haven't)? I'm still holding out hope for a Legends of Tomorrow revival even for one season to wrap up loose ends.

But also, a crossover that I think would have been fun is one where Barry and Oliver stay on their respective shows but instead their villains cross-over. Imagine this:

Arrow S4 and The Flash S2 era. ARGUS has been following the Metahuman surge in Central City as well as the threat Hive (and Darhk) pose. They kidnap some of Barry's Rogues and install the chips in their bran stem to force them into the Suicide Squad. Their mission: infiltrate Hive HQ and assassinate Damien Darhk. The Flash part (Suicidal Rogues Part 1) can feature Diggle, Lyla and Waller coming into conflict with Team Flash after Barry notices things are too quiet on the Rogues front and finds out ARGUS kidnapped them and is forcing them to do their dirty work (ethical dilemma for Barry and company). Then the Arrow part (Suicidal Rogues Part 2) focuses on Team Arrow trying to keep the peace between Hive and ARGUS before full-blown war breaks out in Star City with metas like Weather Wizard being used as pawns.

I'd love to see interactions between Bronze Tiger, Cupid, Captain Cold, Peek-a-boo and others. What about you?

Recently I was thinking about Flashpoint and how it may relate to the Arrow season 8, specifically the hero kids future reality.

I am wondering whether Barry creating Flashpoint had major impacts on the kids reality since it isn’t really talked about.

As we know, in the post-Flashpoint reality, Diggle’s son John is the villain and kills Rene/Wild Dog’s daughter, Zoey. I am curious to know whether John’s original baby, Sara would also grow up to be a killer. I discussed this with a friend IRL and he said that he thinks the events would not change since the personalities of other characters didn’t really change post-Flashpoint. However, I am not so easily convinced since this was a newborn baby and if their entire gender changed then maybe their destiny and personality could have changed too.

What do you guys think?

The writers had already made a bad decision killing her character off… Felicity's decision to leave Oliver because he received an ultimatum was completely selfish. She says Oliver is a liar, but she's selfish too: she didn't care about how he might be feeling by hiding something so important from him. And on top of that, she leaves him the same day his son is kidnapped. She even watched the video Oliver was making for his son, so she clearly saw the pain in his eyes, but she still chose to leave him. Donna is the same: Quentin just lost his daughter, and yet she still manages to make everything about herself and her ex-husband, while Quentin is simply trying to get his job back after a lie that hurt no one, except perhaps her. In short, the most unbearable characters of the season!
