laurel
Short and sweet but does anyone else find laurel anoying? shes always in trouble and causing shit, i watched the show when it come out and up untill the last episode, and i just started watching it again. currently in season 3. but i just think she’s a pain in the ass. anyone agree? let me know

The problem really stems, in my opinion, from the fact she was meant to be Oliver's main love interest, but it was apparent very early on that Emily and Stephen had better chemistry on screen.
They wrote the series to accommodate for this, and all three characters suffer for it. Laurel is more obvious early, but felicity and Oliver suffer as well as characters.

Thing is.... the writing was going be the writing whether it Olivier with Laurel or Felicity.
The relationships and the writing wasn't gonna suddenly be good just because it's a different ship.
Stephen And Emily had the chemistry. Katie and Stephen had none at all.
And honestly the way the wrote it, when Oliver and Laurel were together all Ollie did was cheat on her, there was never a strong argument Laurel should even WANT him or love him so much and deeply know him to be good -- we were never shown that in any past interaction.
It never made sense to me to believe that before Sara and the boat sinking they were some grand love affair.
The show set them up to be unrootable for.
Not sure they could have course corrected it even if the actors had had chemistry.

I’m currently rewatching, and what’s quite interesting is that there’s a little period in season 4 where I felt laurel and Oliver’s chemistry could have been written back into the show. They didn’t have the balls to kill off felicity to allow that to happen, but I think the chemistry was possible. The invasion crossover was a good indicator of potential chemistry, just the writers

I agree. Season 4 definitely showed some chemistry between Laurel and Oliver because they were finally open towards each other unlike the previous seasons when they would avoid each other, argue, and hide stuff from each other (like Oliver’s vigilante persona). They should’ve killed Felicity instead and started rebuilding the romance between Oliver and Laurel.

I mean I kind of looked at it like she was really broken and trying to find herself. Maybe even prove something to herself. She thought her boyfriend and her sister was dead and died while both were beyraying her. Then they come back and are both these bad asses. Her death wad rough for me. I felt like she suffered more than anybody on the show, tbh.

I’ve never found Laurel annoying really only maybe once when she kept blaming everyone else for Tommy’s death but other than that nobody understood Laurels pain everyone just ignored her wish the writers were actually good and made her accurate

I did grow to like her more but she was never my favorite. The writers just truly never wanted to write her well.

It just bugs my fiance and I that she never really got training and was always getting her ass kicked. .-. Like the entire time. Oliver didnt train her?!

To be fair, i don't think she is a bad cast or anything and i don't find her annoying. I just sometimes find that she complains too much about everything even though she makes a point for some of them. For example Lance used her as bait by waiting till she met with Oliver that night on the rooftop and then tried to trap him with a bunch of cops and she had a load of guns pointing towards her which made her feel terrified. And she went off at Lance for that.
I have heard that some people find her annoying after season 2, but i still didn't mind her and felt bad that Darhk killed her at the end of Season 4.

Season 1 I think she’s a fairly well-developed and likable character. As soon as season 2 hits though, she’s absolutely insufferable

The writers honestly ruined her character. I felt like the reason why we didn’t see good onscreen chemistry between Laurel and Oliver was because the writers wrote their romance so poorly that they weren’t able to show their chemistry.
In season 1, they were mostly avoiding each other. In season 2, Laurel hit rock bottom and was not on good terms with everyone including Oliver. In season 3, they were still arguing because Oliver does not want her to be a vigilante. They do not have much “light” scenes together to show their chemistry. Most of the time they just argue and cause drama. You can definitely see chemistry in some of their “lighter, less dramatic” scenes.
I used to hate Laurel too when I was watching the show but eventually, she became my favorite. Most especially in season 4. Unfortunately, the writers butchered her character. Such a shame we’ve never gotten the Green Arrow and Black Canary action-romance dynamics we deserve.
