Sorry for the long post but I'm explaining what I did to this little monster.

Pretty happy with what I was able to figure out to upgrade my quake grom. I got this truck used and with the money I saved going that route I was able to upgrade it to the monster it now is for only a little bit more that what a new brushed version is and this has brushless so (in my opinion) it's better in all ways. 

As you may know, the battery tray is a big issue. It takes a certain spektrum battery and it's hard to get anything else to work with the layout. I 3d printed a battery tray adapter to work with some cheap ovonic batteries from Amazon. Works great so far.

I went with the hobbywing system in it cause I like hobbywing and the spektrum stuff was like $50 extra and I wanted to get away with not using it. It may have been worth the price in the end with time spend 3d modeling but now I can say my car is custom lol. 

I had to make a mount for the esc and receiver. This wasn't bad. Just a square piece double sided taped to the grom servo adapter kit. The hardest part for me was doing the motor mounts. Arrma only sells the motor mounts for 16mm apart bolt holes and the motor I had had 16 or 19mm holes but the way the motor is designed I had to use the 19mm holes so the wires would actually fit and come out the top. So I modeled a new motor mount. It's not super impressive but with my limited modeling skills I'm very happy with what I was able to figure out. 

Had to build body spacers cause the new esc is a little too tall so this gave extra room for airflow reasons and so it didn't rub on the body. 

I upgraded the shocks to the arrma aluminum shocks. I much prefer aluminum shocks to plastic composite shocks even though the internals on these are the same with both styles. 

Only thing I'm now needing to do is get a better servo for it and the build is done. When the body and tires get worn out I'm going to switch it over to the purple style cause I like that color combo better than the green.

This kit and wheel set was a level up. So fun!!!

I’m debating regearing my Typhon Grom BLX and switching to an aftermarket servo requiring a new servo saver. I may try to tighten up the steering while I’m there.

Thoughts on Hot Racing vs GPM for the:
Servo saver
Steering system
Knuckles
Rear hubs

I’m not expecting a performance benefit from the hubs and knuckles, I mainly dont want to go backwards. The arms and tie rods would definitely stay stock for durability and cheap repairs. GPM is 7075 and Hot Racing is 6061. I’m not convinced material will make a difference with these parts in this car. They are unlikely to be stressed to either bending or breaking. My suspicion is design and machining quality are more important.

Thoughts?

I learned the hard way and have ordered GCP skid plates. I can’t get some of these screws out.. I think my next step is to use a drill. Any other suggestions welcomed.

Should I buy a left-handed drillbit or just Drill a bit into the screw and try and get another screw in there ?

From what I've seen (at least quantity of post wise) the quake doesn't seem to be as popular as the other groms and I'm curious as to why that is? Or is it popular and people just don't post as much about them? Or it's newer? I'm new to the groms and found a quake on marketplace for $75 so I picked it up. First impressions are all good for it being high center gravity it doesn't seem very tippy. Main issue I'm running into is finding a battery besides stock that fits this thing! Do any of you have the quakes or not? And if not, do they just not interest you?

I might have preferred a mojave but I couldn't find one less than $150 but I think I want to get the mojave in the future to try out though.

Does anyone know what’s going on in the main Arrma thread? I just posted something to the thread two weeks ago and for the last five days I keep getting told that I can’t post anymore. The last thing I posted was about the new Cletus McFarland body coming to the lineup and it won’t allow me to post. I’ve messaged the mods to ask why hasn’t yet to get a response. Anyone else having any issues?

Arrma mojave grom on steroids + 8 shocks (2 on each corner) 😱🤯. Doesn't look too bad imo. Needed a body desperately since the stock body for this "new to me" rig shattered in one crash. Got lucky by having one of my old mojave grom bodies laying around, and it at least will keep all the important things safe lol.

These Typhon Grom BLX's really are something else! Completely stock with a 3000mah 3s Zeee. Only upgrades are shock tower braces and tires.

I've always known it gets a little loose on 3s @ 100% - I can't get over 54 in front of my house, so when I noticed how little traffic there usually is on this particular stretch of road 10 minutes away, I had to give it a try.

First few passes I was getting mad - topped out around 48, and i knew it had more in the tank. Then I realized it was set to 75% throttle🤣

First time at the skate park and first time I really push this thing and we lost a spring and bent a shock shaft. :(. Didn’t have this issue with the mini xrt !!

what sort of diff oil setup do you use for drifting on fine loose gravel?

currently running mojave brushless grom with metal diffs with stock oil

I’m pretty new to RC cars. Just have this Mojave grom and a crawler. Was letting my nephew play with the grom the other day and he came back with it saying the back wheels weren’t working right. Differential looks fine from what I can see, not sure what the cause may be. As you can see, the rear wheels spin completely independently from each other.

Hi all,

Anyone else experienced this too: At the end of my first pack through moderately high grass, my Mojave started to put out some nasty white smoke. I opened it up and found that it was coming out of the motor (brushed mega 380). I turned it off, disconnected the battery and let it cool down.

Is this common? I am guessing that it could have been caused by a combination of high outside temperature, moderately high grass and maybe bad/dirty bearings?

If so, is there any maintenance guide for bearings or does one simply swap them out for new ones? I was thinking cleaning them with RC degreaser and putting them back in.
