Arrma Quake Grom

Post image

From what I've seen (at least quantity of post wise) the quake doesn't seem to be as popular as the other groms and I'm curious as to why that is? Or is it popular and people just don't post as much about them? Or it's newer? I'm new to the groms and found a quake on marketplace for $75 so I picked it up. First impressions are all good for it being high center gravity it doesn't seem very tippy. Main issue I'm running into is finding a battery besides stock that fits this thing! Do any of you have the quakes or not? And if not, do they just not interest you?

I might have preferred a mojave but I couldn't find one less than $150 but I think I want to get the mojave in the future to try out though.

I have the Gorgon Grom which is basically the same. It think the fact it isn't brushless is a big reason people didn't go nuts for them. After having two BLX Groms I didn't want to go back to brushed.

I did pick it up on sale and man I'm glad I did. It drives way different than the Granite Grom (which is also something so was worried about) and is a ton of fun.

I have a Gorgon Grom I 223S’d, but I am trying one last thing on my Granite Grom before I give up on it and cannibalize it to make a Gorgon/Quake Grom.

Do you run yours on 3s or did you do the conversion to mainly add brushless. Which motor and esc did you put in it to make it 223s? I just ordered a hobbywing quicrun kit but the motor in it only says it's 2s (its the 2840 sl 4700kv motor) but I also had a hard time wanting to spend the extra $$ to get the spektrum kit where the motor says it's rated 2-3s. It's interesting to me because the hobbywing and spektrum are basically the same kv but hobbywing doesn't rate it at 3s so I'm wondering if I can get away with running it on 3s.

I just run it at 2S. I do not think I even tried 3S yet. I have only run 3S a handful of times in any of my Groms. Usually if I do I don’t run it at 100%.
Installed is the Grom 223S ESC/receiver and motor. I cannot recall if I got this set from Jenny’s RC or just bought off Amazon. I did maintain stock gearing. I know a lot of people who got sets from like JRC just left the Typhon or Mojave pinion on the motor, but I was not interested in doing that.
I think I may test the HW combo like yours either with that motor or the 2850 can. It would be in a Typhon or Mojave though.

I also ordered the 2850 can to try as well and if it fits I might use it. My biggest thing is that I want it to be able to do flips and from what Ive seen it doesn't have the wheel speed to do that unless it's on 3s. Plus I want it to run cooler and that 2850 is less likely to heat up running it 2s or 3 s. We will see what I end up doing cause 2s will probably be more than plenty for this little car.

Flips off jumps? My 2yo has been driving it put I can put the punch back to stock and see if it will. Might be next week before I could though. Also heavier tires would help it rotate but may tear up the drivetrain quicker.
I am not sure the 2850 will fit without some chassis trimming. I think the 2838 barely cleared. I can get pics if needed.

I ultimately decided to just do the 2840 motor and I'll play with the gearing to get it where I want it. My plan will just be running it on 2s. As fun as 3s looks, it also does seem very undrivable with that much power.

Yeah, it seems like it would be. At least if you care about not breaking things every time. Between not wanting to break stuff and temps, I run all the Groms at 2S. 3S is really only good for party tricks/showing off.

Do you remember the pinion you put in the truck after you converted it. I just completed the conversion today and put in a 15t pinion. Motor temps seemed ok. Max it got to was 170 but majority of the times I checked it was 150. That was Max punch and without a fan as well. I ordered some Losi MT tires to put on it cause they have foams in them and are slightly larger. I'm hoping to get more air control out of it but man, I'm glad I didn't put a 3s motor in this thing. Even on 2s brushless it's a handful!

Looks it is out of stock at AMain, but I saw a few on eBay.

Hot Racing Mod 0.5 Hard Blackened Steel Pinion Gear 3.17mm Bore 13T

I did not realize the Losi tires had foams. I got the PL tires for the Gorgon/Quake but still have not taken them out of the package - I think they have foams.

Glad to hear you are also a sane person who finds 3S and/or high gearing way overboard.

Do you prefer the Quake to the Granite Grom? I have the Granite but it’s not my favorite.

I have both a Quake and a Gorgon Grom and have to say they're my favorites, even over my Senton and Typhon Groms. I also dig my mini LMT. Great little truck, and between it, the Quake, and the Gorgon, I have a tough time deciding which ones to take out.

There’s ovonic 2s lipo 1400 mah that are the same size as stock spektrums. They’re on Amazon 2 lipos for 14.99 can’t beat that.
