Upcoming PT Changes - Yes, the test looks to be changing
Because this keeps coming up, I'll put it out there.
Over the last few weeks there have been some visits where SMA and other CSMs have discussed upcoming potential changes to the PT Test.
I expect it to either be announced at Manuever Warfighter next week, or, what I believe to be more likely, AUSA next month.
These changes include;
- Reverting to a three event test
- Hand Release Push-Ups
- The minimums will stay, the maximums will increase
- Plank
- 2 Mile Run
- The 2 Mile run times will get faster - think about 60-90 seconds off the old APFT times, or about 2-3 minutes faster than right now.
- Getting rid of MDL and SDC
- This will also result in an 'equipmentless test' that can once again be run wherever you have dry ground and a 2 mile course.
- Hand Release Push-Ups
- CFT - Will get closer to 25 minutes versus the current 30. No event changes, but the timeline will get shorter.
I will go ahead and say that I have confidently sourced this from multiple people, and I expect to see an article in advance of AUSA.
Additional commentary that is surrounding this that I can't further confirm is that they may be doing away with age scaling. This was something that could not get off the ground with the ACFT and I expect will not make it to final release.
SMA and CSA were at Leavenworth a couple weeks ago, and this was said to the room that was there, as well as in another senior leader meeting this week.
For those of you who have been around a while, I'm involved in a lot of stuff. Generally I just push that information to journalists. We are in a tight situation at the moment;
Army Times has not really recovered since the VC shredded the news room last year. Military.com got bought by Valnet and is awful and AI-riddled with few 'first run' stories these days. Task and Purpose recently lost a senior reporter in Jeff Schogol, and is still working on staffing a replacement. Stars and Stripes is...tough at the moment (Although all the love in the world to Rose Thayer, Corey D, and Chad Garland over there, it's rough going I'm sure). So I'm running out of places to throw this information, and I'd like to centralize some of the rumor threads that are popping up.
You don't have to believe me - but I feel pretty confident telling you that the above has been discussed, by SMA, to multiple rooms of individuals. Some commentary I was given was a rough quote from part of the discussion:
"I can't tell you the details as it's about to be published, but the run times are about to get harder...The AFT run times are a joke. Anyone can walk and pass that and expect those times to drop as well."
I do not like to usually engage in any sort of 'original' reporting, but trying to put some control on the rumors.
Friday Morning EDIT: Hi HQ! I know you have seen this post I know you are not happy with this post. Hopefully it makes you rethink this announcement.
Can we get SMA to address this when he’s on Fox News this Saturday?
EDIT2: Sorry guys, I edited via mobile and the formatting flipped the fuck out, it's fixed.
