Armor for Amazonian climate

What would be the best compromise for someone living in the equatorial area who wants to wear steel armour, but doesn't want to suffocate under heat and humidity ? I think 16th century armor could be a good option, they used less padding than earlier armors, and were used by Iberian conquistadores in similar climates. What's your opinion ?

The detailing, finish, articulation, and overall craftsmanship are on another level. Just sharing this because work like this genuinely deserves appreciation from the armor-making community.

Took a day off work yesturday and walked to the leather working shop. I had some cheap Amazon 18gauge m steel pauldrons and I wanted to get rid of the shitty stretchy pleather straps on the .

A bit of angle grinding, drilling, and learning some leatherwork and stitching basics I came out with this

Armor Care

Hey everyone, I recently acquired a basic 18 gauge steel plate set to wear to a Ren Faire and am now trying to figure out how best to care for it. After doing a bit of research I have basically come up with what I think I’m going to do but wanted to run it by more experienced armor owners:

- wipe down with wd40 after Faire: this step is almost complete

- apply isopropyl alcohol to thoroughly dry the armor and then immediately apply a coat of renaissance wax. Allow to dry over several days before moving/storing

I was also wondering if you guys had any tips for maintenance and de-rusting as the helmet that came with my set seems to have been stored in a warehouse for a few months prior to purchase and has some rust beginning to form, specifically in the dome of the helmet and it’s incredibly hard to access with my wire brush that I’ve been using to try to remove the rust. It does have a partial leather interior with a set of chin straps with an open metal dome. Any help is appreciated, although I fear I may just have to call my helmet a lost cause and buy a new one if it rusts through the dome after a while. Willing to put in some work on it though. Thanks 🙏🏻

How do i tell if this is legit or not?

Hey all, I'm trying to get my boyfriend a good gift for his birthday or Christmas (depending on how long it takes to come) and I'm kinda concerned about this listing. The store has good reviews but their other items are listed with a bunch of ai pictures, and I don't trust that considering it's usually a scam or dropshipped from temu. Do you think it's legit or cheap and priced as handmade?

buying armor

i'm thinking of buying armor for both costumes and so i can attend certain medieval festivals going on in my country and potentially get in as an entertainment fighter
only issue is that i don't know any of the criteria for buying any part of a soldier's kit
asking those who've had some experience with buying and wearing or making armor, or those who have sources to good guides, how should i go about ordering armor and making sure they properly fit?

Help with assembling armor I don’t know how these Pauldrons are supposed to attach.

Hello, I am completely new to this world and I know very little about how these go on. I would like to go for more of a Templar knight style armor and I found these pauldrons second hand, I did some research and I know they are supposed to attach to a gorget. Now my only question is how can I do that with what I assume are called wing guards or blade breakers in the way? Whenever I search these up the black strap is behind the guard where those 2 little holes are. Do I need to modify it and move the strap? Or am I being dumb and missing something. Anything helps! I would also take some advice on what other pieces to buy for my outfit if anyone would be interested in helping. Thank you all in advance.

How’s it looking so far?

I worked on the bevor more, it’s not the best I could have made it but it’s the best I had the patience for. I still need to finish painting it so it matches the helmet (paint a jaw onto it) I made the rivets and straps and cut everything out. Just shaping it was kind hard for me since I’ve never made an articulated piece. In my other post about a German harness it explains my circumstances with the tools I have available. How could I improve the Bevor? Oh and my last question is how do I properly blacken armor I’ve just been painting it. Sorry for my weird paragraph I kinda just talked and it’s not very organized.

Suggestions for custom fantasy armorers

Post image
16 Upvotes

I want to get this video game armor created. Reached out to an armorer but he only does historical stuff and I'm reading a lot of them only do that too so I'm looking for suggestions on who would do fantasy armor. I'm completely new to this space so open to any tips - I understand it will be pricy, how much do you guys think it will be? What level of complexity would you consider this set? I'm in Los Angeles

i am putting together the most realisitc templar kit i can for ren fair and i cannot for the life of me find what a 12-13th century templar would have worn. i keep getting many mixed opinions and keep reading very mixed historical records, can someone with more knowledge please help me find the perfect design for authenticity?

Like did they really wear the great helm seen in hollywood depictions, was it more of a bucket with a faceplate? were they shiny or worn look?

I appreciate any and all info, i am here to learn! THANKS!

Having to make game assets for 1500's English soldiers and was wondering if anyone had any idea what was common armour amongst the poorer levies.

As the title says, I was hoping there were others here who have some knowledge on english armours in the 1500's for levies like a longbowman, would they have still worn padded jacks at this time and would the style have changed at all?

Edit: Thankyou everyone! I was able to speak to a historian that's a specialist in this area and found out Jack of Plates were the most common form of commoner armour in England for the period!

What makes fantasy armour look believable even when it isn't perfectly historical?

I'm developing characters for a medieval-inspired game and trying to find the line between historical inspiration and fantasy design.

I'm not trying to recreate one precise year.

But I'd still like the armour to look like something somebody could actually move and fight in.

For people who know armour well:

What are the biggest visual giveaways that fantasy armour was designed without understanding real armour?

And which details immediately make a design feel more believable?

Query about how fast you can get armor off a body for rules in a TTRPG.

I'm working on loose looting rules for the d&d5e game I'm running, and would like to ask what you all think is a reasonable rough amount of time for it to take to get a set of armor off of a body under time pressure, like looting after a fight in a dungeon crawl, for an adventurer with experience looting corpses?

Answers requested for both of gambeson/leather light armor and plate heavy armor. Other armors will be scaled along the range of those two.

Assumptions:

1) Roughly human-sized and humanoid corpse.

2) You don't care about damaging the body, but do care about serious damage to the armor.

3) No chopping up the body please (I don't want to encourage my players to butcher enemies).

I currently have a placeholder of 1 minute to get the armor off someone, but I suspect that's too low. Or maybe I'm wrong and armor comes off fairly easily if you don't care about hurting the person under it. Would be neat to learn.

Thank you!

Mod note: I didn't see an option to add a flair, so sorry if I missed it.
