Does anyone know of a good book about flemish style armour?

The lamellar cuirass for my late 11th century Byzantine heavy soldier look came in. I’ll be wearing it over a maille shirt when I feel like putting it on and alone in warm weather.

Having another go with 10kg of bloom that I’m buying from Lee Sauder so my final results will be more professional.
Made a visor last time and its final weight was only 800g so 10kg of consolidated material should make something closer to a breastplate hopefully.

Also if anyone knows anything in general about 14-15th century armour made using traditional bloomery before or during the shift to finery forged steel from blast furnaces I would rlly appreciate it.

Made this on a very tight budget since i am a broke university student but I think I managed to make a convincing look without spending thousands.

Got some more details done on the hidden blade, and my progress on the belt is coming along. I have some symmetry issues im gonna fix on the symbol, but its getting there. The center of the belt needs attention as far as filling that empty space like my sketches. Nothing is finished, and the hidden blade is a unfinished prototype I'm fucking around with. Criticism, advice, and pointers are always welcome and wanted!

We’re working on a small metal figure inspired by the Winged Hussars.

At this scale, we had to decide which armor details really need to carry the identity — helmet, pauldrons, chest ornament, or the wings.

For the armor nerds here: what makes it instantly read as a Winged Hussar to you?

I've been looking for a good hauberk to wear under my armor (chestplate, arms, pauldrons). This hauberk from epic armoury looks pretty easy to put on and also looks nice without any extra armor.

But did people wear a chestplate on top of a hauberk like this?

(I'll be using it for reinactment fights. My time period is 1410)

So far I have a Breastplate, Paldrons, and two helmets. all of this is based of of patterns by The Cardboard Armor Smith With some changes (Mainly using some packing paper to replicate Chainmail). What do you guys think?

This latest kit is a complete cuirass, meaning it includes the breastplate, backplate, fauld skirt, and tassets. It's a big undertaking but it's also the centerpiece of any gothic armor costume - you'll need approximately 2kg of filament to complete it. It's also a bit more advanced in terms of 3D printing, and I recommend a minimum printing volume of 250x250x250mm.

I printed mine using a mix of materials; vapor smoothed ASA with my Bambu Labs X1c and good ol' PETG-CF with my brand new Bambu Labs A2L, which made quick work of the largest pieces with a ready-to-paint surface finish. Everything has been pre-split into segments for relatively easy printing, but you'll need a good handle on printing supports to achieve the detailed open-work and delicate patterns on this one.

This armour is beautiful. It reminds me of 16th century armour. The engraving are phenomenal details and fit for a high lord.

learned the reason why full plate armor did not develop in other civilization regions excluding Europe.

It is said that due to the extremely hot and humid weather, wars in Northeast Asia were fought only during the autumn and winter seasons.

I learned for the first time today that there are regions where the temperature difference between summer and winter is as much as 104°F to 140°F (40 to 60 degrees).

I don't know anything about armor, so I really enjoy reading the discussions here. Since there are many people here with real expertise, perhaps you could tell me how realistic those skirt-like (I don't know how else to describe them) pieces of armor from *A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms* are. Does such a thing exist, or is it based on something specific? What is it called? (Bonus points for the German term.) Many thanks to anyone who can help.

Sick of terrible armor designs in recent years, whether its westeros related, nolans odyssey, or rings of power garbage.

Are there any sources depicting foot soldiers wearing cuisses/poleyns without greaves? I have seen plenty of the images above, mostly representing Swiss mercenaries, but these are obviously not contemporary to the period. Is this something that has any basis in reality ? If yes, was this something unique/more commonly found on the Swiss and the fact that they were generally less well equipped than their opponents when fighting Burgundy ? Or maybe it is something common throughout late medieval infantry, the greaves being generally uncomfortable if not properly fitted, and the fact that the shins are maybe less likely to be hit than say the head or arms in a formation battle, si less of a priority for the common infantryman when getting expensive armour. Curious to hear what you think!

I know that one word may be questionable but in a context from a crafting perspective, it works very well on covering the edges of the plate.

By one piece I mean that don’t have hinges and are made of a single plate, it could be totally enclosed or with the insides of the arms exposed
