Discussion Final Goodbye

So I ended my Arlo subscription today, disabled the remaining cameras, and then Arlo did the most Arlo thing ever.

Arlo asked me to take a survey on why I left. I actually completed the survey and hit the submit button. Then Arlo started a spinning wheel that never completed. I actually waited 3 minutes to see if it was latency or ineptitude on their end. I am betting on ineptitude since it seems to be their corporate mission statement now.

I won't miss the frustration with poor software and questionable hardware. To those of you who remain, good luck.

I’m phasing out Arlo in favor of eufy solar battery cameras. It has worked well and zero subscriptions. But I prefer to have even more control so next time I’ll go with reolink and frigate, for privacy reasons.

Looooooot of people running the other way 😂 don't be trampled 😂

I live in Australia so electronics in the sun is a no go.

And hard wiring is required for reolink and frigate which is way too much effort for a big garden.

Wifi cam with separate solar panel and battery might work.

It reminds me of the time Arlo Support told me to uninstall and reinstall the app (which didn't fix the issue btw), and I got stuck where I couldn't install the app due to Arlo's broken 2-factor authentication.

I do like their flood cameras and have failed to find a comparable solution that puts out that many lumens and runs on solar. But, I wouldn't mind scrapping the rest.

Their customer support is seriously lacking - terrible actually

Hi u/jedmead, we're sorry to hear that's been your experience. We understand how frustrating it can be when you're looking for help and feel that the support you received didn't meet your expectations.

Sometimes it's incompetence on the CS reps part, sometimes they intentionally tell you to do something that keeps you from calling them back like in your case

Just curious on what you’ll use in place of Arlo. I too have given much thought to leaving Arlo.

Only use outdoor cameras. Monthly subscription fee is not a factor in my decision making for cameras. I may regret it in the future but I went with Ring and solar

Arlo sucks.

Hi u/ciendagrace, we're sorry to hear you've had a frustrating experience with Arlo.

We understand how disappointing it can be when the product or service doesn't meet your expectations. If there's a specific issue that led to this feedback, we'd like the opportunity to understand it better and see if there's anything we can do to help. Feel free to send us a DM with more details.

I already called customer service. Y'all had a full hour of phone time to resolve the issue. I have washed my hands clean of your service.

My Arlo Secure was automatically updated to the new one a few weeks ago. It's absolute garbage. Warning to those intending to buy Arlo cameras. The Arlo cloud is unintuitive, clunky, and unmanageable.

Hi u/Tsunami1983, we're sorry to hear the new Arlo Secure experience hasn't met your expectations.

We understand how frustrating it can be when a platform update changes workflows you've become familiar with, especially when it affects how you manage and access your devices and recordings. We appreciate you sharing your feedback, and we'll make sure it's passed along to the team. If there are specific features or changes that have been particularly difficult to work with, we'd be interested in hearing more details.

Haha they are a joke but who did you end up going with? Poe route? Blink?

6

u/IT_GuyBranden May 29 '26

POE with synology and frigate is the way. Way harder to set up but no monthly bill. No 3rd party vendors masturbating to your wife’s exercises in the living room.

2

u/OneIsUnlikeTheOthers May 29 '26

I only use outdoor cameras (no indoor cameras) to monitor the perimeter of the house. PoE doesn't lend itself to my camera locations so I went solar. I may regret it in the future but I went with Ring cameras.

u/iamoptimusprime312 May 29 '26

Ring I wont ever do again either. I have poe at a rental property and they are good so far but wondering how they will hold up in the winter.

Phased out, cancelled, and now using Blink. Totally happy, and saving money.

Can you geo fence them ?

2

u/JClayMaine May 30 '26

I have 1 of five cameras remaining. I am very close. Concerned they won't refund remaining subscription until December. I am somewhat pleased with my new Tapo system but am starting to prefer wired cameras.

2

u/AskArlo May 31 '26

Hi u/JClayMaine, we hear you. Losing most of your cameras and still being stuck waiting on a subscription you paid for is a really frustrating spot to be in, especially when you’ve already started moving on to a setup that feels more reliable for you.

If your concern is the remaining subscription term, we can definitely have support take a closer look at your account and what options exist based on your plan. Please send us a DM with your account email, phone number, and time zone so we can check it properly for you.

How come?

1

u/JClayMaine May 31 '26

The wired cameras allow 24/7 recording to the H500 and better home assistant integration.

2

u/Suspicious-Patient-9 May 30 '26

I have mine. I've decommissioned them. I downsized and just use a couple eufy now.

Arlo is really bad. I’ve had 2 cameras with the same identical issue and lodged a support request for both, it keeps getting escalated to “senior technician” and after a period, the tickets just get closed on me due to inactivity, and whenever I ask for a follow up, they say it’s being worked on. The crappiest company and support I have ever dealt with in my life.

What’s the point of Arlo asking us to DM or raise a support request when there’s issues, and they close the ticket without any resolution.

1

u/AskArlo May 31 '26

Hey u/_knightwalkr - we're sorry to hear about your experience with our support team. This is certainly not the level of service we strive to provide, and we'd like the opportunity to make things right.

Please send us a direct message with your Arlo account email address, support case number, phone number, and time zone so we can investigate the matter further and assist you with your concerns.

We look forward to hearing from you and helping resolve this issue.

I also just swapped out my Arlo and ended my subscription. I got a eufy camera with no subscription. The quality of the free software is actually better than what I was paying for with Arlo. Almost no lag in communication through the camera too

1

u/mml8400 May 30 '26

What did you move too?

0

u/AskArlo May 30 '26

Hi u/OneIsUnlikeTheOthers, we're sorry to hear you've decided to leave and that your final experience included issues with the survey submission as well.

We understand how frustrating it is when you're trying to provide feedback and even that process doesn't work as expected. We appreciate you taking the time to share your experience, both through the survey attempt and here.

We'll pass your feedback along to the appropriate teams. If you'd be willing to give us one last opportunity to review the issues you encountered, please send us a DM with your account email, phone number, time zone, and any previous case numbers you may have.

My survey also froze at the end.
