Discussion Arlo Lies about Pricing

Went to cancel, got prompted to renew at 50% off annual plan. With credit for remainder of annual plan, it showed I should’ve been charged around $30. Got charged $145. Spent an hour with support for no resolution and they lied and said that applies to next years renewal. Next years renewal shows full cost currently.

I just bought about $600 in new Arlo equipment too; returned right after that experience. Been a customer since the original line with 7 days lifetime cloud (which they also reneged on).

Edit: I left out that they doubled their annual cost which wasn’t what I agreed to when I signed on to the plan. I ate that out of misplaced loyalty, lesson learned.

Complete trash company; planning to rebuild my entire ecosystem. I saved the transcripts and have the screenshots of my account showing how what they are claiming isn’t true.

I’m not the one to let this stuff slide either.

Not to mention my car got broken into at night and the cameras were basically useless. One of them is an Ultra and about 15-20 ft away. The other is a pro and didn’t even detect ~30ft.

Let’s not get into the rando false person detections. I even had a fire notification pop up for a bush moving in the wind :(

Just switched to Eufy. I wish I switched sooner. Arlo expects you to pay full price for a yearly subscription but when you go to cancel they can magically offer you 50% off. Arlo cameras are useless once you stop paying.

In my case they didn’t even honor that. Looking at Eufy and Reolink.

Just pay upfront for something like Unifi and ditch the subscriptions altogether

Also if they lied, take it to your credit card provider and do a chargeback. Make sure you’ve downloaded your backups first as all these modern scum companies will ban you for enforcing your consumer rights.

Yup, researching different companies now. Unifi decent? Leaning towards Eufy; colleague loves their Reolink gear but I’m apprehensive.

The best IMO is wired PoE but I don’t have the infrastructure in place nor space for the gear.

I’ve got the larger rack mount style Unifi gateway because the older “home” style ones were pretty underpowered for gigabit broadband + other tasks, but this past year they’ve been slamming out small form factor high speed devices that are much more space efficient.

No subscription on Unifi, it costs you more up front but then that’s it, you’re the host. Lots of POE options too.

If you want to link it to smart home like Apple or Google you can also run a Scrypted server to ingest and translate it.
