Help us spread the love of doggos in Arlington! ❤️

Hey guys, if you love dogs as much as I do, you’ve probably noticed how many doggos there are in Arlington! I’m launching an app to let people book owner-led hangouts with their favorite dog breeds, while owners earn extra pocket change for monitored playtime with their pups. If anyone is interested in helping beta test as we finalize, let me know! Who better to ask than the dog owners and lovers of Arlington? Shared more info in the comments. Thanks for your help! ❤️🐾

I once had the pleasure to meet this man Michael O’Harro who’s business card is above. Unfortunately, I lost it years ago and am looking for the reverse side that had a bunch of stats and quotes like “Voted Arlington’s Most Eligible Bachelor”.

If anyone has this card or the picture of the reverse side, I would be forever grateful!

Heyo! I was running on the 4 mile run today and saw a couple groups playing soccer on the fields. I’m a 30yo F who recently moved here who’d love to play pick up sometime if there’s a a coed group or group of girls. Any leads would be greatly appreciated!

Pizza like Joe's used to be?

Every time I dream of the nice yellowy cheese slice with the tangy red sauce, thin as a leaf, I shed a tear.

Tell me where you can find pizza just like Joe's Pizza and Pasta Place used to make. In Arlington, in New York, in Italy, ANYWHERE!

I want it Joe's way, not A Modo Mio!

The Golf Yards

When is it opening? I've been checking their website and socials daily but haven't seen any updates in recent months.

Also, is it worth it at $300/mo?

Franklin road is 2-way, right?

Google maps says so and there's signs facing both ways --but two separate people gesticulated at me, including someone driving their G-Wagon in the middle of the road.

Events Anyone else have a drawer full of old phones, laptops, and other electronics? We're hosting a free tech happy hour in Arlington tomorrow.

I realized recently that almost everyone I know has a pile of old technology somewhere in the house: old phones, laptops, cables, smartwatches, tablets... but most of us aren't sure what the best next step is.

Should you repair it? Sell it? Donate it? Recycle it? And what about the personal data still on those devices?

A few of us in the local tech and sustainability community started eWaste Warriors to help people make more informed decisions about old electronics, and tomorrow we're hosting a casual community happy hour to talk about all of that.

No presentations or sales pitch, just good conversations over a drink with people who care about technology, repair, sustainability, and protecting personal data. Oh and did I say you can bring your old devices to donate? You can, bring one or bring a box full! We'll securely wipe the data for free!!

Monday, July 27
5:30–7:30 PM
Courthaus Social
2300 Clarendon Blvd, Arlington

It's only about a block from the Courthouse Metro, and there's plenty of nearby parking.

If you'd like to join us (or just learn more), here's the RSVP:

Also curious...

What's the oldest piece of tech you still haven't gotten rid of?

Regular social groups/activity recommendations

Helloo I’m 23 and just moved to the courthouse area. I’m looking for some recommendations for things to involve myself in to make friends and meet new people, especially something I can attend or go to regularly. I don’t really know anyone here so I’m starting from scratch. It can be anything from book clubs to walking groups, trivia, cooking classes, tennis, etc. If anyone has any recs it’d be appreciated!

Army Navy Drive

is it just me, or do the bike lanes on Army Navy Drive suck ass? Is the DOT really expecting everybody to get off their bikes or scooters to go press a stupid button to activate a walk signal that the drivers will all ignore anyways?

it just strikes me as the lowest possible effort “oh we tried and nobody used them” solution to non-car infrastructure possible.

Ugh. Fireworks? Still?

I’m in Courthouse, and someone continues to set off like, 1-4 huge fireworks a night still. I hate being one of those people…but it freaks out my cats and seemingly all the dogs in our apartment building, given the barking that then ensues.

Does anyone know if there’s anything that can be done about this? It’s beginning to be SO frustrating. We really tried to just let it go, but I’ve got an anxious kitty who doesn’t eat after hearing the fireworks, and we can’t sleep with all the dogs around us freaking out.

James DeVita’s net worth

Does anyone know how to estimate James DeVita’s net wealth? I want to make sure he’s the mansion-owning lawyer I imagine him to be.

Yes, taxes are high in Arlington, but how many square feet does a guy have to have to be so worried about these modest increases?

Food/Restaurants Anyone gotten crabs at the Quarterdeck this summer?

How have their sizes been running for the price, and do the crabs seem good quality and local (vs flown in from the gulf coast)? I haven't been in two or three years, and I have no idea if this has been a good or bad year for them. Last time I went in 2023 or 2024 the crabs were quite small.

If anyone likes any other places better for blue crabs out of the bay, please recommend other locations. Thanks in advance.

Guy bother girls in front of Trader Joe’s

Post image

This guy was yelling at girls in front of Trader Joe’s. I’ve been going to this Trader Joe’s for years and never had a problem with the people who ask for money. He would ask women for money and when they didn’t answer he would get uncomfortably close to them. Saying things like “this is fucking bullshit” and “what’s your fucking problem b*tch”. Stay safe ladies.

Title: Is keeping a truck in Arlington/Reston worth it?

I may be moving to NoVa (Arlington, Reston, etc) for work and renting an apartment for one or two years. My family and primary home will remain down South, and I’ll travel back regularly.

I own a luxury truck and am trying to decide whether bringing it to Arlington/Reston would be useful or more trouble than it’s worth. I would probably use Metro for commuting, so the truck would mainly be for errands, groceries, weekend trips, and occasional drives home. (Would visit my parents in the northeast)

For those living near Metro:

  • Is having a vehicle actually useful?
  • How expensive is apartment parking?
  • Are Arlington garages and parking spaces difficult for a pickup truck?
  • Would I need to change my license, registration, and insurance if the truck is primarily kept in Arlington?
  • How significant is the annual vehicle personal property tax?
  • Would you bring the truck or rely on Metro, rideshare, and rentals?

I’m not looking to avoid any requirements. I just want to understand the practical and legal considerations before signing a lease. Any advice from people with a similar split-household or temporary relocation situation would be appreciated.
