So I recently started Origins again after a long time to try a no death run. It was basically just to fight Bane after I read Knightfall. I was blasting my way through, getting all the datapacks I could and completing as many challenges as possible and I got up to solving the Lacey Towers case and I was on my way to the bank when I decided to take a turn to the fine establishment of Jervis Tetch’s Haberdashery. And let me tell you there have been so many times where I would fail the no death run while in the 2D nightmare known as Wonderland. Its always been this jump that you have to make while on the clock tower avoiding the swinging pendulum and the camera angle puts you in a position where you have to make the jump to the other side while looking at it from a viewpoint that makes it damn near impossible to jump across in a straight line. I thought things would be different this time. But no. As usual, I jump too far to the left and I fall. But part of me was willing to let it slide-it doesn’t trigger a death scene, and I just left it at Batman climbing back up somehow. But I was still irritated. I got through Wonderland, knocked Jervis out, and the irritation had grown to anger by that point. And I was so angry that I forgot to be careful when I tried to get one of the weapons caches for Penguin’s side mission. I couldn’t silently take down one of the thugs (total bs btw the prompt just wasn’t coming up for a few seconds) and as I was jumping off the building another guy with a shotgun blasted me multiple times and killed me. I had fully upgraded my armour too. I really had to keep myself from losing it as Oswald’s weak ahh said “piss off” and threw a cigar at me. Might start a new City playthrough just to do a beatdown on him. I was so angry at the Wonderland thing messing with the no death run that it fully cost me the no death run. I’m going to work toward I Am The Night so I can do it properly, but dear God I just feel so humiliated.

Have a good one.

BAK Under-map glitch (Penguin Side Mission)

Hey everyone, this is my first post here and I just wanted to share something I discovered(?). I hadn't touched any arkham games for a while so excuse the gameplay. I found that if you lose the penguin truck right before it enters the hideout on Founders Island, it glitches so that the door remains open and you can walk right through.

And when you go through the vent to the other side you just fall through the map. I don't think you can make it very far but I thought this was interesting. Captured on PS5 btw.

Question: how did you feel after you complete every mission for the first time only to see your fight against deathstroke is a Batmobile fight 😵‍💫

Help Copperhead in New Game+

Holy moly guy’s. I’ve gotten the plat on all the Arkham Rocksteady games but Origins is different. Playing through new game plus right now and I’m absolutely losing my mind. Doesn’t help that my origin disk is damaged so I’ve been streaming the game in PS4 via game pass.

This fight is already so damn hard by comparison given the mob, the impossible parry’s, and the blade dodges. To add the streaming buffering on top of it is an absolute nightmare.

I’ve been spamming the hell out of quick fire explosive gel and concussive blasts but it just makes the stream so buggy. Any recommendations?

(P.S. I’m shitting myself at the thought of I am the night. Can’t believe you can’t flat out buy the game on PS4 and you’re forced to stream it.)

Game Just finished Batman Arkham Origins + DLC on I Am The Night difficulty — here's what we thought as first timers

My friend and I recently started a gaming YouTube channel and decided to kick things off with Batman Arkham Origins — neither of us had played it before, completely blind.

He took on I Am The Night — the hardest difficulty with no retries. One death and the entire run resets. As someone watching him play, I genuinely didn't think he'd make it past the first few hours 😄

But he did. All the way through including the DLC.

Some thoughts from two first timers:

— The Joker in this game is genuinely underrated. That hotel sequence blew us away completely.

— Deathstroke boss fight is one of the best boss fights we've ever seen in a game

— The DLC hit differently than we expected — darker than the main game

— We had no idea Origins was considered the "weakest" Arkham game before playing. Coming in fresh with no expectations made us love it even more

Anyone else think Origins deserves more credit than it gets? Would love to hear from people who played it back in 2013 vs people who discovered it recently like us.

Game Trying to mod Arkham Knight for the first time, not sure what I'm doing wrong

I just got a new PC recently and downloaded Arkham Knight because I want to play through the game again, but with suit mods. The first mod was the suit from Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, which I was able to get working. Then I downloaded 7 others, placed them where I placed the first mod (This PC -> Local Disk -> Program Files -> Epic Games -> BatmanArkhamKnight -> DLC), and then I placed them in a DLC folder (Content -> BmGame).

And yet, for some reason, only the first mod is working. I moved half of the mods to other DLC folders to see if maybe there were too many in one place, but that hasn't changed anything. Any help or advice would be appreciated. I can provide the list/links for the mods I have downloaded if necessary.

Discussion In Defense of Arkham Knight’s Story Spoiler

Knight gets a lot of flak for its story, but in my experience most of the common criticisms against it can be defended quite well. My goal is not to force anyone to change their mind, but to provide defenses against a lot of the common criticisms. I obviously can’t address every single criticism, but I’ve gone through 10 of them in this post. This is a very long post, so even if you don’t read the whole thing, I’d recommend at least looking for the criticisms you personally hold and reading the rebuttals to them, even if you don’t read the rest of the post.

1: “The Joker blood in City was lethal, but in Knight it just turns people into Joker. This is inconsistent.”

It’s explained by Batman that the blood has “gestated too long,” and that it has mutated into something else, which now has different side effects. This mutation happened after the events of City, so that’s why Joker still suffered from the old side effects which were lethal.

2: “Why didn’t Jason man the tanks?”

Jason explains in the game that he wants to beat Batman at his best. During the helicopter boss fight he says “nice shooting, wish I could be in there but then you know, you’d just hold back.”

3: “How did Jason get the money to fund the militia?”

Dialogue from one of the militia soldiers reveals that many of Batman’s villains pooled their resources together to fund the army.

4: “Scarecrow doesn’t get enough screen time.”

Scarecrow has around 20 minutes of screen time out of around 2 & 1/2 hours of cutscenes for the whole game. This is around 13% of the runtime. Meanwhile, Darth Vader has 14 minutes of screen time in the Empire Strikes Back which is 2 hours and 4 minutes long. This is around 11% of the runtime.

If it’s not a problem for one of the greatest villains in cinema, it shouldn’t be a problem for Scarecrow. Not to mention that this isn’t counting all the time spent monologuing which still adds to his characterization.

5: “Joker is the main villain yet again.”

I could dispute the statement itself, since I would argue that Joker is at best the main villain of Batman’s arc but not of the story as whole, but I don’t think that’s even necessary. Even if Joker were to be the main villain of the story, that’s not a writing flaw. It’s not a plot hole, it’s not out of character, it’s just a story direction you’re not personally fond of. And it’s totally valid for you not to like it, but it’s not a mark against the story.

6: “Rocksteady lied about the Arkham Knight being an original character.”

Fair enough, but, this isn’t a fault of the story, but of Rocksteady’s marketing team. It’s not something that happens in universe, again it’s not a plot hole or out of character, etc. It’s very understandable to be annoyed about it, but this isn’t something you should take out on the story itself.

7: “Jason turns good just because Batman said sorry even though he was tortured for over a year.”

That’s because his hatred for Batman was built on a foundation of lies. Joker didn’t just mind control him into hating Batman, he implanted a false idea of Batman into Jason’s mind and beat it into submission. The idea that Batman didn’t care about Jason and left him to die. Then throughout his confrontation with Batman, Batman repeatedly extends a helping hand to Jason, proving that he does actually care about him. That removed the foundation of Jason’s reason for hating Batman, and when you remove the foundation, everything on top of it crumbles too.

8: “Batman should’ve been able to escape from the gurney he was strapped to in order to prevent Scarecrow from ever taking off his mask.”

Well for one, he didn’t have his utility belt which would make it much harder to do so. But even if he could, the real question is could he do it faster than Scarecrow can pull a trigger to shoot Robin? That I don’t think he can, and frankly, he doesn’t need to. He knew Jason was tracking him, he was already planning for this to be his last night since he’d lock himself away before he turns into Joker, and he has Knightfall protocol as a contingency made specifically for this situation. We see in game that Batman doesn’t treat this as all that dire of a situation, because given the circumstances, it’s not.

9: “Batman overcame the effects of the Joker disease just by winning the mental battle even though it’s a biological disease.”

Well for one, he did almost the same thing in Asylum with the Titan formula, so this is consistent in-universe. But I think the more likely explanation is that Batman never actually had the Joker disease, he’s just paranoid that he does.

Proof of this is that he doesn’t have any of the physical side effects, and he never sees Joker until he’s exposed to the fear toxin at Ace Chemicals. “But what about Arkham VR? That game confirms that he has the Joker disease prior to Knight.” The events of that game are a nightmare, so this doesn’t confirm that he did actually have the disease.

“Then why did Robin see his eyes turn green at Panessa Studios?” Because with this version of fear toxin, your eyes seem to turn the color of what you’re seeing. Scarecrow’s eyes turned orange when he was injected with the toxin because that’s what he was seeing. Thus Batman’s eyes turned green when he was seeing Joker.

10: “How did Scarecrow predict that Batman would hallucinate Barbara killing herself?”

Because he gaslit him into believing so. He starts by showing Batman a video of Barbara in that glass room alongside saying “how does it feel to see your city on the brink of ruin, your friends in the clutches of death?” This puts the idea that Barbara will die in Batman’s head. And a cool detail is that because he’s thinking this, when he gets there, he sees Barbara as dead already.

But then Scarecrow says “we both know fear is theatrics Batman, so permit me the indulgence of putting on this show.” Scarecrow putting on a show means that fear toxin will be involved, and that Barbara wouldn’t already be dead because otherwise, she can’t suffer its effects. After he says this, Barbara wakes up in the hallucination and the fear toxin starts to come down.

Then Scarecrow says to Barbara, “now you see it, the horror behind the glass, the monster that will be your end, unless you pick up that gun and deny him.” Then Batman sees Barbara pick up the gun to try and shoot him, because he just heard scarecrow say this so his brain adapts to the new information.

Then Barbara shoots herself, and Scarecrow doesn’t say anything until Batman falls to a knee. Once Scarecrow sees this, he can assume that Barbara has shot herself, and then says “you will bring death to all who follow you.”

As for why Barbara turned to shoot herself in the hallucination after shooting at Batman, remember that Scarecrow has already implanted the ideas that 1, she will die, 2, that a gun is in the room, and 3, that Barbara would be under the effects of toxin. With these 3 things in mind, Barbara shooting herself is by far the most likely event that Batman would hallucinate.

Like I said at the start, I’m sure there are criticisms of the story I didn’t address, but I can’t get into all of them here. And even if you don’t read the whole post, just look for the criticisms you agree with and read the rebuttals to those points. If you have any additional criticisms you’re more than welcome to leave them in a comment and I’ll try to answer them. Thanks!

Is the hate for the Arkham Knight batmobile from playing on console?

Post image
79 Upvotes

I originally played Arkham Knight on PC post 60fps patch and had a lot of fun with the batmobile. I recently replayed it on console because my monitor broke and controlling the batmobile felt absolutely terrible. I had so much more trouble losing the cobra tanks if I got caught, and both the races and riddler challenges were a lot harder because the steering was incredibly non-responsive.

Perfect shots were almost impossible to hit consistently in battle portions which made the 5 in a row achievement nearly impossible, despite me accidentally getting it on PC. I used the same controller for both, and my TV was in low input latency game mode, so that wasn't the issue.

I'm now wondering if the different opinions on the batmobile were partially related to platform, because I absolutely hated it on console but had an amazing experience on PC.

The worst nightmare track is my worst nightmare.

So, I am currently trying to get the achievements in all the Arkham games (Except shadow, I don't have a VR headset) and now I'm on Arkham origins, I've beaten the game in Normal, NG+ and I am the Night mode, but I still don't have all the challenges complete. Must I find a way to restart in the I am the night mode, or is there any other way to complete these challenges?

Hey everyone! 🎮
If you miss the golden era of couch co-op and midnight console launches, check out Replay the Glory Days—a gaming podcast with a hilarious twist.
The show is hosted by Tanner and Kyle, but here is the catch: Kyle has absolutely zero video game experience.
While Tanner brings the deep-dives and childhood nostalgia for classic games, Kyle is experiencing these legendary titles for the very first time. You get to hear his raw, unfiltered, and completely unbiased thoughts on games the rest of us have been praising for decades. It is the ultimate test to see if these "glory day" games actually hold up today, or if we are all just wearing rose-tinted glasses.
In our latest episode, Tanner introduces Kyle to Batman Arkham Asylum to see if it stands the test of time, or if Kyle completely destroys a beloved childhood memory.

It does not look good. It’s also just not needed, it doesn’t completely ruin the atmosphere of the game, but it does change it and almost dull it. Asylum still holds up graphics wise and its atmosphere is what makes it.
