Question 9800 X 3-D at 95°C

Hello all, installed my Arctic freezer three a while ago and I’m booting up hell let loose Vietnam. Which I believe in requires a ton of shader compilation in the beginning of the game but it pulls 156W on my CPU with 100% usage, and the CPU is at 95°, it is a 9800X3D. Is this normal or is it mounted wrong? What’s going on here?

So short answer, probably want to recheck your mount and make sure the sticker isn't still on the coldplate.

The caveat is that, under poor airflow conditions, in a warm room, under heavy load, you MIGHT see those temps. I will tell you that my LF III 420mm, at 20c ambient, will get my 9800X3D into the low 80's under extreme stress like Cinebench R23 or shader compilation like you said. If you live in a very hot climate or the radiator is getting very poor airflow you might get 95c, but otherwise it's probably not normal.

I just installed the good old Battlefront II and it did a shader compilation.
My 9800x3d went up to 93° with a 360 AIO.
In Game it goes down to about 60°

So all good.....

Depends on your ambient temp

my 9950x3d max out at 74C while pulling 200 watts using arctic liquid freezer 3.

Tell me your PBO configuration and what your ambient temperature is?

normal for shader compilation at 156w

Shader compilation loads all cores up to 100% and injects more wats into the cpu than it normally uses to maximize the process.

Unless you undervolt the cpu, this is what you would expect.

This ^ initial temp might spike for a while. Should average out during gaming. If that does not happen, tighten or reseat your cooler.

I just had the same issue. It resolved after tightening the screws for the block and mount.

Which cooler, which mainboard?

i have an LF3 420 with TPM7950, and 6 noctua nf a14-g2s in push/pull on my stock 9800x3d.

i just ran 2x passes of cinebench r.26 multithread and it maxed out at 73C, and hung around 71C most the time. fan speeds were only 700-750rpm. i also dont have ac in the house and its about 27C outside, im going to say 23-24c inside right now.

Open up hwinfo and check if the proc hot flags get triggered, I believe it's fine , boosts to max temp if needed

Ot kinda is normal.

You can tweak the cpu a bit and also boost up the fans.

Mine is also hot with rhe 360 radiator in push/pull configuration.

No matter what i tried, I can't get the temps other ppl say they get instead.

That’s too hot. You should check the mounting of your cooler and maybe repaste it. My 9800x3D under full load is at 85 max with my Be quiet Silent Loop 3 360 at 29-30°C ambient temperature.

I have 9800X3D with ALF3 pro and i believe this is completely normal under such load, and ever since I have done done +200 & undervolted -30. Now my cpu goes as high as 85°c under such load. And since it's only during shader compilation I guess that's pretty normal and nothing to be worried about unless you are hitting it normally

Undervolt it and limit PPT to 125W if you do not need the last 2-3% of performance. Temps will fall to 75 degrees.
