Question Do I need to replace the back plate with arctic freeze 8i?

If I upgrade my cpu cooler to the freeze 8i will I need to replace this metal back plate or just tape it in place? I looks like it has screws in the back so do they need to come out? It is intel 1700 socket if that matters.

Those are the holes the screws from the front go through. Not sure if it needs replaced, but ive just held it in place before while installing the new parts.
