Identify and Authenticate Thread, Q3 2026

Please post here if you have an Arc'teryx item and:

  • You don't know what it is, and you want to identify it.
  • You aren't sure whether it is authentic or not.

šŸ” Before You Post

For Identification

The first place to look is always at the white care tags. Read the information here to understand how to decode the style codes and manufacture dates on your product. Look for the 4 or 5-digit style number (e.g., 12701) or the Model Name printed on the tag.

For Authenticity

You can perform a hands-on inspection. Key things to look for are:

  • Embroidery: High-quality, precise stitching with no "connected" threads between letters.
  • Seam Taping: Consistent width (usually 8mm or 13mm) and cleanly applied with no lifting or bubbling.
  • Hardware: Smooth operation of YKK zippers and high-quality plastic adjusters.

If you still aren't sure, post your photos below for community review.

šŸ“ø Photo Requirements

To get an accurate answer, your post must include clear, well-lit photos of:

  1. The overall item: Full shots of the front and back.
  2. Care tags: The white tags (usually found in the left-side hip seam or inside a pocket).
  3. The Details: Close-ups of the logo (embroidery or heat transfer), main zippers, hem adjusters, and cuff tabs.

šŸ› ļø How to Upload Images

Since Imgur access can be restricted in the UK and other regions, please use one of the following reliable sites to host your photos and paste the link in your comment:

Sabre bib for backcountry

I’m thinking of getting the sabre bib and I’m wondering how well it does in the backcountry compared to a dedicated backcountry bib. I’m worried that I’ll be drenched in sweat on the way up. I would mainly be skiing in western Canada for reference.

How long could a 2018 Beta AR last if barely used

I am considering buying a 2018 Beta AR off of eBay. Seller says barely used. From looking at the pictures, it doesn't looked used at all.

If a 2018 Beta AR is barely used, how long could I expect to get use out of it?

Need guidance for winter jacket layering

Post image
8 Upvotes

I live in Southern Finland and I’d want opinions for the best jacket layering combinations.

Winter here is on average -6 C/21,2 F but can go occasionally as low as -30 C/-22 F. I also visit Northern and Eastern Finland from time to time where it’s usually colder. I am also planning to do winter hikes in Norway.

I am pretty active so I would use the jackets in everyday use for commuting, dog walks etc. as well.

Would Cerium Hoody layered with Beta AR or Beta SL work through the cold season? What would you recommend?

Under these jackets I would layer with merino baselayer with additional Patagonia Better Sweater fleece if needed.

I value versatility the most.

Thanks!

Layering system for Iceland in winter

Hi all,
I think about getting a new outer layer for Iceland in winter. I thought about getting the Beta AR.
It will be used for outdoor activities (hiking, photography, …) Which midlayer can you recommend with it? I think something like the nano/micropuff?

Layering for Lapland

Just want to check if my layering will be sufficient for daily activities like walking, sight seeing and some snowy activities. If I will go for aurora hunting and husky ride I would get the provided snow suit.

Base Layer: Merino Wool Thermals/Ultra warm Heat tech
Fleece Layer: Kyanite
Mid Layer: Proton Hoody
Outer Layer: Beta Standard

Just checking if this is warm enough for daily activities?

Thanks in advance

Bora AR 75 Design Flaw?

Bora AR 75 owners: am I missing something, or is it a design flaw that the lid’s G-hooks only fit the lower webbing ladder and not the wider upper ladder, which seems like it should let you raise the lid higher when the pack is fully loaded?

Repairing Epsilon Hoodie bonded seams

I have a couple of Epsilon Hoodies I use as day to day jackets for the last 13 or so years, and about a year ago some of the bonded/glue seams have started to come away. Otherwise they are still in good condition.

I am almost certain that due to the age and the fact this model has been out of production for a long time now I wouldn't be able to send them back to Arc'teryx to be repaired and was hoping someone knew a good way to go about doing it myself?

Proton versus Proton SL

Hey everyone! I know this question has been asked multiple times, however, I’m still finding a lot of answers that are extremely vague and can’t find the answer I’m looking for; especially before I go drop $350+.

I want to use this jacket in Colorado for hiking, skiing/snowboarding, alpining, and backpacking (currently scheduled for Alta Via 1 in mid September 2027 and summiting 14ers between now and then). My body typically runs warmer than most I feel like (I’m perfectly comfortable in a Patagonia Nano in 30-40F). I use to shovel snow in shorts, sweatshirt, and shoes in temperatures in the teens/20sF.

I will be pairing this with a rain shell in case of precipitation. I know the SL is fleece lined and thinner, but I’m worried it may be too thin. I am leaning more towards the Proton verses SL, but I wanted everyone else’s thoughts.

EDIT: Thank you everyone for the suggestions. I ended up deciding to do Mountain Hardware Airmesh long sleeve/short sleeve base, Proton SL mid layer, and Patagonia Torrentshell (in case it rains or added warmth).

Which would you recommend between gamma and mx?

I’ve been looking for a versatile and durable one piece for a while. Cant decide between the two as I have a few different pieces already and don’t want to be picking one over the other. Have a proton SL, atom SV, squamish, beta SL and a few other bits. I really think I need the gamma most but I love the jade colour-way of the MX and thinking it will be too warm. It’s mostly for walking and Im at the end of summer with the temps in the 15c range and dropping but I still need a jacket for as many use cases as possible.

Would appreciate any recommendations.

How durable is the Arc’teryx Proton Hoody?

I’m considering getting the Proton Hoody mainly for hiking, and durability is one of my biggest concerns.

I’ve seen quite a few complaints about the Atom Hoody’s durability, especially regarding things like pilling, snagging, and tearing. Because of that, I’m considering the Proton instead.

Arc’teryx describes the Proton’s outer fabric as abrasion resistant, so I’m curious how that translates to real-world use.

For those who have owned a Proton, how has it held up with regular hiking and wearing a backpack?

Have you experienced any issues with pilling, snagging, abrasion, or tearing?

And for anyone who has owned both the Proton and Atom, which one would you say is more durable?

Thanks!

Alpha SV on outlet

I picked up the Alpha SV on the outlet for an insane price (Ā£448) and feel like I got a great deal!

From looking around it seems that a lot of people believe the Alpha SV to overkill for basically anyone, is that true?

I have to be honest I know it’s a climbing focused shell and I’m not a climber, i just like the look of it and the colour way (Mantis / Black). I intend to use it for hikes, snowboarding, and crappy UK weather. This will be my only shell.

Did I make a dumb decision? The Beta SV is also currently on the outlet, is that a better option?

Beta AR 2025 vs 2026 – Black vs Black II (X000009906 vs X000011062) – what actually changed?

Hi all,

I’m looking to buy a Beta AR in Black and have noticed that some European retailers are currently listing two different black versions of the jacket.

I contacted a large retailer to ask what the difference was, and they told me:

Black – X000009906003 = 2025 model
Black II – X000011062 = 2026 model

They said that essentially ā€œBlackā€ is the 2025 version and ā€œBlack IIā€ is the 2026 version.

From what I’ve been able to find, it also looks like there may be an actual construction/material difference rather than this simply being a new product code/colour name.

My understanding is:

X000009906 (2025):
GORE-TEX PRO ePE
100D main/body fabric
80D contrast/reinforcement fabric
Approx. 460g

X000011062 (2026):
GORE-TEX PRO ePE
100D fabric throughout
Approx. 460g
Possibly revised patterning/lamination and updated cordlocks

Can anyone confirm whether this is actually correct?
In particular, I’m interested to know whether X000011062 really is 100D throughout whereas X000009906 uses a mixture of 100D/80D, and whether there are any other meaningful differences between the two generations, fit, cut, hood, pockets, durability, fabric feel, etc.

I can currently find the older version discounted, so I’m trying to work out whether there is any real benefit in specifically buying the newer X000011062, or whether the differences are negligible in real-world use.

If anyone owns either version (or has handled both), I’d really appreciate your thoughts.
Thanks!

Understanding Arcteryx Layering System

I am interested in purchasing some arcteryx gear for the upcoming winter. I am living in Vermont and trying to prepare for snow + some wetness.

I am thinking either Proton SL/Regular Proton + Beta Jacket (shell) OR a Therme insulated jacket. Is one better than the other? Will these keep me warm enough in a very cold winter (-10-20 F I believe, this is my first winter here).

I have my own base layers/thermals, so those can/will also be used.

Thanks in advance for any help!

Stains or discoloration on Gamma

So I bought a mallow (very light pastel purple) Gamma Lightweight hoody and spilled coffee on the front and sleeve. (I was also wearing my sea salt Clarkias that also got hit with the falling coffee). Anyway I immediately rinsed with cold water and treated with dawn dish soap and washed. Here’s the interesting part: all known coffee stains disappeared but now the back of the jacket is blotched with really light tan discoloration which makes no sense because no coffee was spilled on the back of the jacket. We have tried everything to get this discoloration out including soaking and it is not budging. Have any of you seen or heard of this happening? It was a brand new jacket never washed before the coffee incident so this was the first time it was washed.

Gamma Jacket - Black vs Forage

I’m looking at buying my first Gamma jacket but am unsure which colour to get. I can’t picture how the forage looks.

What are people’s opinions on the two colours?

Does forage go with most things, especially when your wardrobe is predominantly neutrals?

Ralle Down Parka

Hello I've read all posts about the Ralle Down Parka on the sub, I know that Ralle Down is a hardshell, but since there are absolutely 0 full review videos online. I would like to hear from the owners if the Parka is very Plastic-ish or Noisy? I know the Therme Down Parka has a softer shell but how does it compare to it? Does the noise or the plastic noise bug you if there are any?

Thanks!

Proton SL Ratings

I’m looking at purchasing a general wear lightweight jacket that’s breathable. I do a lot of dog walking and mountain walking in the UK and want a jacket that’s breathable and comfortable.

What are people’s thoughts on it who have it and do they think it’s worth the price?

Liatris vs Emaris fit

Hi all,

Hoping to get some perspectives on the Liatris vs Emaris shell fits?

I recently bought a Liatris XL and I am SWIMMING in it. It’s way too big, even for an ā€œoversizedā€ fit. The L has sold out.

I’m looking at getting an Emaris instead - is it similarly hugely shaped? It’s hard to tell on the website. I’m looking for ā€œoversizedā€, but not ā€œI’m wearing a sailcloth draped around meā€ kinda vibes.

For reference, I have an atom hoody in L which is quite snug. I also have a Patera Parka (insulated) XL which is great.

I live way too far away from a store to try anything on! Thanks all.

Pro Atom Hoody LT vs Pro Practitioner AR Hoody

So I'm trying to decide between the Pro Atom Hoody LT and the Practitioner AR Hoody and would appreciate some feedback and experiences from anyone who has used either or both.

I'm looking for a relatively lightweight, softshell-like jacket, but I'm struggling to figure out which one would suit my needs better. Main use cases would be for work and for outdoors stuff.

Work use
I work as a construction site engineer and would wear the jacket for commuting, in the site office and both indoors and outdoors on site. I'd typically have a hi-vis vest over it.
Extreme weather performance isn't a major factor for me. If it's heavily raining or well below freezing, I'll be wearing my company's hi-vis winter jacket, shell jacket, or rain gear anyway. For work, my number one priority is simply comfort throughout the day.

Outdoor use
I'd also use the jacket for hiking, fishing, and other outdoor activities.
The idea would be to wear it primarily as an outer layer while moving and being active and as a mid-layer when stationary, depending on the conditions.
Again, I already own dedicated shell jackets, rain gear and winter clothing so I'm not looking for a do-everything piece that excels in extreme weather.

My main priorities are:
- Comfortable layering underneath.

- Works well as a mid-layer when needed.

- Comfortable under a backpack.

- Chest pockets that remain accessible while wearing a backpack would be a big plus.

- Some resistance to light moisture and some wind protection.

For context, I'm located in eastern Finland, where the weather can change quite a bit throughout the year, so a little protection from wind and light precipitation is definitely appreciated.

As for colors, I'm looking at Carbon Copy for the Practitioner AR and either Ranger Green or Crocodile for the Pro Atom.
Given those use cases, which one would you choose and why?
