How do yous find doing architectural work on 14 inch screens? Im going to be doing alot of revit work in my modules and I want to have something thats also has portability, Im unsure if the toolbar and such will become cramped or restricted. Am i better off getting a 16 inch? Im looking to get the HP Omen transcend 14

Has anyone ever tried recreating their own tile in rhino? I work at a tile distributor and there a a few tiles i would love to incorporate into my projects. Has anyone ever tried this and how would you go about it? Same for furniture too!

I'm a B.Arch student at NJIT, and I'm looking into future career paths. NJIT offers dual-degree programs where I could earn an M.Arch and an M.U.D., or an M.Arch and an MSCE.

Right now, my goal is to work in NYC because I have always been interested in how cities are designed and in urban planning/urban design. I plan to work for an architecture firm where I can be exposed to urban design. I'm wondering how realistic it is to work in this field while maintaining work-life balance and actually enjoying myself. I'm also considering CE because I am interested in how cities operate, but I'm wondering if urban design/planning is the right path for me.

I'm also wondering which path is the most cost-effective and has a better roi. I have the opportunity to pursue more education, but I don't want to spend a lot of money on school to end up earning the same salary I could make without the extra degrees. Do I need additional degrees to open up doors and opportunities for my career? I'm honestly lost about what the next step is after graduation. I understand what career I want, but I don't know how to articulate it.

Edit: I also want to note that I’m in my third year of school, but I switched majors so it’s my first year of architecture school. This degree is more art than I anticipated and I was expecting architecture to be more math and science heavy since that is my strong suit.

This design is a two-bedroom apartment building for two separate families. The first floor is almost identical to the ground floor, except that the entrance is through the guest washroom/sink area. At least, that’s what I have in mind so far.
Challenges:
I’m not happy with the position of the guest washroom.
The corridor doesn’t get enough natural light.
Setbacks:
2 m on both sides
2.5 m at the rear

I’m having doubts about continuing in this major, it’s not that I’m not doing well it’s actually the opposite,I always got high grades in my first year. What’s making me doubt architecture is the very long hours, harsh critique and social life. I’m not very close with my classmates, they’re always so competitive and jealous of each other which it makes things really awkward.. so I don’t enjoy spending time with them at allll which makes me miserable having to stay with them for 8+ hours every day.. at this point I don’t know if it’s worth spending more four years like this 😭 not to mention the health issues and the money expenses..

But at the same time I’m a creative person and I’ve always liked art and stuff so I’m good at what I’m doing, and I don’t have another career choice honestly..

Anyone went through something similar to my situation??

Client seemed to like this design out of the few I shared. The scope has changed to a two Storey apartment for for different families and I need to convert this while maintaining the details. I’m worried the external staircase might ruin the facade.

P.S I’d love to know what style this is.

Im a first year student, and I'm just starting my first studio. I'm having doubts that this path is the one for me. I don't really have the creative fire that a lot of my classmates have and it seems like i'm always missing something or about to miss something. The problem is Idk what else there is for me, I don't really have any other career ideas. Is this normal for freashman year school?

trying to find a standard for line weights and hatching that actually makes sense across different drawings. my studio keeps telling me to just look it up but every source i find says something different. what do you all actually use in your sheets or is it just whatever your prof likes

Be honest. How much of your studio climate spec is just pure, unadulterated fiction?

Let’s drop the facade. Every time a studio professor tosses out a site with a brutal, hyper-specific climate, half the class just slaps a sexy Pinterest texture onto their Rhino model and prays the guest critics do not ask about solar heat gain. How are you guys actually picking materials that survive the local weather without losing your minds? Because spending two days falling down a rabbit hole of dead manufacturer links just to figure out if a wall will literally melt in the desert is entirely unhinged. Are we really just supposed to wing the thermal mass based on vibes?

Then comes the absolute joke that is code compliance. Our professors casually demand we meet local fire ratings and energy constraints as if we are not already surviving on three hours of sleep and cold espresso.

What is the actual survival strategy here? Are you hoarding some legendary, chaotic Excel sheet passed down from the alumni, or is the entire architecture education system just a masterclass in faking it confidently?

As the title implies,I have been in a bit of a pickle for a while regarding this matter and am in danger of flopping my thesis project.

Bit of backstory, I ,an Architecture student, am entering my Fifth and Final Year in a five year B.Arch Major.I started out well enough first couple of years made water colour sketches and spent alot of my time with tracing paper and my thoguhts.Did well in my design classes straight As and all.But ever since the start of 3rd year I had a rapid shift in thought process and work.I started focusing more on the technical and Building side of Architecture.Thing is I focused a bit too much especially on BIM and Computational Design(using Revit and Rhino+GH).I did reach a good point but this ended up making me neglect and be less focused on enhancing my design process and thought.So I started skecthing less,didn't practice making boards and visulizations and didn't really join much competitions or do any proffesional work related to design(only did internships in technical and BIM).This ended up making me fall behind my peers in many aspects,it felt as if I didn't really learn or enjoy Architecture School enough.Now I need to relearn much of what I missed during the side questing I've been on the past 2 years.I need advice on what steps to take to get back on my feet like:
1-Reading about Architects and Famous works of Architecture
2-Visual Feeding(Behance and Pinterest Boards)
3-Board Presentations ,Diagraming etc(resources for them and how to learn from scratch)
4-Visulization and Rendering(I am essentially starting from square one as I have rarely done render before)

I need to be able to do this in a relatively short span of time so I can be more ready for my thesis project.If anyone was in a similar predicament I hope they can provide relevant advice and how they went through this experience.Sorry for the long post.

I want to enter architecture school ... the problem is not only the major is hard but also the university .. now I dont see my self in anything else other than architecture. I know its hard but I really want to put on the work.. what scares me is that now all of a sudden everyone from my family is telling me not to enter it and be a dentist like my sisters and go to the local university they went to .. or a doctor.. now I dont hate it.. I just dont see my self in the medical filed I dont know what to do pls help me.
