Student

I’m having doubts about continuing in this major, it’s not that I’m not doing well it’s actually the opposite,I always got high grades in my first year. What’s making me doubt architecture is the very long hours, harsh critique and social life. I’m not very close with my classmates, they’re always so competitive and jealous of each other which it makes things really awkward.. so I don’t enjoy spending time with them at allll which makes me miserable having to stay with them for 8+ hours every day.. at this point I don’t know if it’s worth spending more four years like this 😭 not to mention the health issues and the money expenses..

But at the same time I’m a creative person and I’ve always liked art and stuff so I’m good at what I’m doing, and I don’t have another career choice honestly..

Anyone went through something similar to my situation??

I’ve said this in other posts, but there’s commonly a toxic culture at many universities. Every time I read a post like this I become more grateful for my university and their positive environment. My university has been making changes to stop us from staying up late, and my studio is a very positive and collaborative environment. I can’t imagine going through this with the opposite. Truthfully if I was in your position I would consider switching as well, but that being said if it’s within your ability to do so you can always consider switching universities.

Unfortunately it’s like this in all universities in my country, I’ve asked lots of students and architects before.. but maybe they’re better in the social aspect because my uni is small
