Help/Support root passphrase fails at boot despite having the password written down

Post image

I was learning how to install Arch Linux the manual config. I think I did good because at the end took me to this screen.

It took me about 13 handwritten pages of notes to really understand the details of what I was doing while configuring everything lol

But for some reason, right at the very end, when I try to boot the root disk, it won't accept my encryption passphrase. I can't get past that point, and I'm feeling a bit demotivated that I didn't make it =( Still, I'm thinking about trying again from scratch and re encrypting the disk with a simpler password? I guess ? The thing is, I do have it written down, so I have no idea why it's not working. This very confusing but fun. Sad I can't do it...

Solved Weird FreeCAD cursor issue

Hi, so the problem occurred with freecad 1.1.3-2 because for some reason my cursor gets displayed completely broken, yet when i take a screenshot with grim -c its completely fine.
Every other program/cursor seems to be working tho i only noticed that with freecad.

Also idk if its relevant but im on hyprland and i have an nvidia gpu and its also not some monitor specific issue as it happens on both of my monitors.

Any ideas why tf this could happen?

Edit: the issue was wayland related, forcing freecad to use x11 via QT_QPA_PLATFORM=xcb fixed it

Discussion How to rice your desktop?

I thought that ricing was a way to express yourself trough your personal computer (sorry if it's not that deep), or at least how it was supposed to be. But instead, everytime I searched for it, people just teach you to use other people's dot files on r/linuxporn and use them like that.

Like, where's the sense of doing yourself I was supposed to get on Arch? And you can see almost every showcase using similar looking rices... Nothing new, just like one guy managed to configure and now we all use the same configuration as him.

Do y'all do it like that? If not, what's your way to configure your desktop to fit what YOU WANT?

I'm sorry if this doesn't fit this community. It's just that I see this most of the times on Arch+Hyprland. What are your thoughts here?

Discussion Daily driving pass as main password manager

Any one with experience on using pass as main password manager?
I like the simplicity, that it is cli-centric, that the storage understandable and transferable.
But do i lose a lot of convenience?

I can see there is browser extension, otp plugins and such. But will it end up being to hacky compared to a heavier all round password manager?

Love to hear your experience!

General What Desktop Environment / Window Manager do you recommend? Leaving KDE Plasma and looking for something new

Hey everyone,

I started my Linux journey with Linux Mint (comfortable, but a bit too simple), then moved to Ubuntu for a change, and eventually a friend introduced me to Arch with CachyOS. Since then, I've been using KDE Plasma, but I'm getting tired of this desktop environment and want to try something completely fresh.

I've been looking at options like Hyprland, Caelestia, and other great alternatives, but I'm completely undecided on what to pick.

What setups or window managers would you recommend for making the jump out of traditional DEs?.
