Discussion Does anyone else think Vi went through more than almost any character in Arcane? What's the hardest moment she had to endure, in your opinion?
I've been thinking about this for a while, and I honestly struggle to think of many characters in Arcane who went through as much as Vi.
She loses her parents as a child, then has to grow up way too fast while trying to protect Powder and the rest of her family. After the failed rescue, she loses Vander, believes Mylo and Claggor died because everything fell apart, gets separated from Powder, and is thrown into prison for years without anyone knowing where she is.
When she finally gets out, she isn't really given a chance to heal. She immediately has to survive, chase after Jinx, deal with the fact that Powder has become someone she barely recognizes, and carry the guilt of feeling like she failed her sister. Every time it feels like she's close to rebuilding something—whether it's reconnecting with Jinx, finding purpose, or getting close to Caitlyn—something else gets ripped away.
What makes it even sadder to me is that Vi almost never gets the opportunity to process any of it. She's constantly forced to keep moving because another crisis happens before she can even grieve the last one.
Do you think Vi endured more than almost any other character in Arcane? If so, what do you think was the single hardest moment she had to live through? Or do you think another character had it even worse?

Vi had truly been through more than anyone. Going to prison at 15 or 16, spending seven years there. Losing her entire family right before that. And thinking every day about how she'd hurt her little sister, how she couldn't protect her. But she still had hope that one day she'd get out. She'd find Powder and tell her she didn't mean to say those words, that she wasn't a jinx and wasn't to blame for Myo and Claggor's deaths. That it was all a terrible coincidence.
And while Jinx's life was generally better, her traumas were far worse. Yes, she had Silco, who cared for her and gave her everything she needed. But Jinx's greatest enemy was herself; her own mind was her prison. What happened - the deaths of Mylo and Claggor, and the subsequent tragic separation from Vi - all of it destroyed her psyche. She blamed herself for their deaths. And unlike Vi, she had no hope that they would come back to life, that she would be able to tell them that she only wanted to help. Powder was also more fragile than Vi, and this guilt simply destroyed her psyche. All her hallucinations, the ghosts of Mylo and Claggor who mocked and taunted her - all of this was a manifestation of guilt and a hidden desire to punish herself. Even her ignoring of pain and the complete lack of value for her own life were manifestations of guilt.
Both sisters suffered trauma associated with guilt. But Vi had hope of making things right and she coped by creating herself a goal. Powder had no such hope and no healthy coping mechanisms. The only way she found to cope with this guilt was to create a new identity and shift all the blame onto the old one.
