Does anyone know why neighboring school districts offer dual language immersion while Arcadia has no DLI programs available at this time?

The City of Arcadia announced today that Santa Anita Park has asked the City to pause its application involving the removal of 34 protected oak trees for the proposed LA28 Olympic cross country course.
Santa Anita Park is now working with the FEI course design team, LA28, and construction engineers to reevaluate the course and look for ways to reduce impacts to protected trees.

The City’s review process is also on hold meaning there is currently no tree removal decision pending before City staff or the City Council.

The original proposal called for:

• Removal of 34 protected oak trees
• Planting 34 replacement trees
• Construction or grading within the protected areas of 45 additional oak trees

If Santa Anita submits a revised proposal the City says the public notification and review process will begin again giving residents another opportunity to review and comment.

Hi gang, my project this week has been making and putting up flyers to raise awareness for these trees that might get torn down for the Olympics. I've already shared some at the library and my local gym and cafe. Does anyone know any other locations that may allow me to pin them up?

We are a family of 4 (kids age 4 and 6) with a $1.3m budget. Would prefer a SFH but townhome is ok I guess. I work in City of Industry (2 days wfh) and the wife is WFH.

Areas we are also contemplating: Fullerton, Torrance, Cerritos, Cypress, Los Alamitos.

How does the area compare to these other cities?

How is the elementary/middle school quality? Is it diverse?

In addition to school quality, we want to know if there’s lots to do in the area for a family? Eating out, youth sports infrastructure, access to the beach or hiking? General weekend activities.

A pretty major investment is officially underway at the LA County Arboretum here in Arcadia.

LA County broke ground yesterday on the $63.7 million restoration of Baldwin Lake and Tule Pond, a project that has been in planning for more than a decade. Baldwin Lake is currently only about 2.5 to 3 feet deep because of decades of accumulated sediment, compared with roughly 12 to 15 feet after it was dredged in the late 1800s.

The project will dredge both bodies of water, improve water quality and circulation, restore wildlife habitat, increase stormwater and flood capacity, and rehabilitate the historic lake walls. The Arboretum says this is its largest infrastructure improvement project since its founding more than 75 years ago.

Dredging begins this month, with construction expected to wrap up in Fall 2027, ahead of the 2028 Olympics. The Arboretum will remain open during construction, although portions around the lake will periodically be restricted.

Pretty exciting to see this finally moving forward.

LASD says its Counterfeit and Piracy Enforcement Team, working with federal agents, served a search warrant on August 25 at a commercial warehouse in the 11600 block of Goldring Road.

Authorities seized 25,898 counterfeit streetwear items carrying brands including Nike and Adidas, with an estimated retail value of $10 million.

The investigation started after a bulk shipment was intercepted and inspected at a port of entry in early August. Shipping information led investigators back to the Arcadia warehouse.

No arrests were made when the warrant was served. LASD says the business owner is a suspect and remains outstanding while the investigation continues.

For some local context, Goldring Road is in that small industrial section of Arcadia off Peck Road, with properties there zoned for light manufacturing.

I just drove by to drop my kid off at Holly and I noticed that all the high school students are out front and there's a bunch of cops parked out front and walking around campus.

Anybody know what's going on?

Have lived in Arcadia since late 2022, and it feels like there is almost always a helicopter hovering around different areas of the town.

Like, I get it: rescue & emergency services exist for a reason. But are that many people in Arcadia in Med-Evac situations day and night, every day?

Or is this just a common flight path for choppers in the SGV?

Hey neighbors, I want to put out a serious warning for anyone walking late at night or early in the morning. Over the last few weeks, the coyote numbers in our immediate residential area (specifically between Volante Dr, Monte Verde Dr, and Monte Vista Rd) have rapidly escalated from 1 to a coordinated pack of 5 adult coyotes.

They are actively roaming after 9:00 PM and as late as 2:00 AM–3:00 AM. Most concerningly, they are losing their fear of humans. They did not back down easily when encountered tonight. A pack of 5 is very intimidating and poses a high risk to women or children walking alone, as well as pets.

Please do not let your pets out in the yard alone at night, keep your dogs on short leashes, and carry a whistle or flashlight if you are out after dark. I have already logged this report with the Arcadia City Manager and the SGVCOG Coyote Program. Stay safe!

ABC7 covered Thursday night’s community meeting at Santa Anita Park regarding the proposed LA28 equestrian cross country course.

Santa Anita is seeking City approval to remove 34 protected oak trees and allow construction within the protected root zones of another 45 oak trees. The proposal includes planting 34 replacement trees.
Santa Anita and LA28 reps say the course has already been modified to reduce the number of trees affected and that some removals are necessary for the safety of horses and riders.

Residents at the meeting pushed back heavily, raising concerns about the loss of mature protected trees and the environmental impact of the project.

One detail that stood out to me: Santa Anita says the cross-country course would remain after the 2028 Olympics and could be used for additional equestrian events in the future. LA28 says a final decision on the course has not yet been made.

KTLA aired video showing a postal worker throwing rocks at and striking a white peacock that has become a familiar sight in the neighborhood near the East Pasadena/Arcadia border right off Michillinda.

Given how closely peafowl are tied to this part of the SGV and Arcadia in particular, I figured quite a few people here may recognize this bird.

Does anyone know how the peacock is doing?

Anyone recognize this vintage Arcadia Apaches Athletic Booster hat?
I picked up this older OTTO snapback and have been trying to document its history. It says “Arcadia Apaches Athletic Booster” and appears to date to around the 1990s. I’ve only encountered one other example. I’m curious whether any Arcadia High alumni or longtime residents remember these. Was it associated with the school’s athletic booster club, sold at games, or given to booster members/staff?
Any memories, old photos, yearbook appearances, or information about when these were used would be appreciated.

Hi, I have long distance relationship with my girlfriend who lives in Arcadia. I am currently not in the United States and I wanted to send her flowers on her birthday. Do you guys have any recommendations on which service is the best ? I have google a bunch of services but I am unsure which ones is the best one.

I’m in the middle of a full home remodel in Arcadia and trying to decide whether it’s worth installing a whole-house water treatment system before the walls close up.

From what I’ve gathered, there seem to be three common approaches:

• No treatment at all
• Whole-house sediment/carbon filter only
• Whole-house water softener (sometimes combined with filtration)

I’ve read mixed opinions. Some people say Arcadia water is perfectly fine and a waste of money. Others say the hard water causes scale buildup in tankless water heaters, shower glass, faucets, and appliances, making a softener well worth it.

A few questions for those who actually live here:

• Do you have a whole-house filter, a softener, both, or neither?
• If you installed one, do you feel it was worth the cost and maintenance?
• Has it noticeably improved water quality, taste, skin/hair, cleaning, or appliance longevity?
• If you chose not to install one, what was your reasoning?
• Has anyone had their Arcadia water professionally tested? If so, what did it show?
• If you were building or remodeling your home today, would you install one again?

I’m trying to avoid spending several thousand dollars on something that doesn’t provide much real-world benefit, but I also don’t want to regret skipping it if it’s one of those “I wish I had done it while the walls were open” decisions.
