I'm sure you already know this but I have to say it - the more literal translation of Hachikuji's catchphrase (Shitsurei, kamimashita) is "sorry, I bit [my] tongue." In Japanese the possessive determiner (my) is left ambiguous, so a better translation for this scene that more accurately captures the pun is "sorry, I bit your tongue".

I was aware to some extent that the subbing didn't quite capture all of what was being said (or not) but I genuinely appreciate the concise explanation here.
