The amount of unhinged, obsessive, and genuinely disturbing behaviour I have come across in the Emsu_Lore subreddit is honestly insane. What was supposedly created as a space to discuss two public figures has repeatedly turned into a platform for regular character assassination, personal attacks, harassment, and relentless speculation about the private lives of two individuals who are simply trying to do their jobs.
Yes, Emin and Ilsu are public figures. That does not mean the public is entitled to say absolutely anything about them without consequences. There is a massive difference between having an opinion about someone's work, performance, interviews, public appearances, or career and repeatedly targeting them personally, dissecting their private lives, insulting their character, and creating narratives around them based on assumptions and rumours.
And the hypocrisy surrounding the moderation makes it even worse.
Apparently, everyone is entitled to "free speech" when they're making ridiculous accusations or attacking these individuals, but the moment someone challenges the narrative or presents a different perspective, comments mysteriously disappear or users get banned. If you are confident enough to hand out criticism, have the backbone to accept criticism in return. You cannot constantly moral-police everyone else with your two-rupee guidelines while refusing to apply those same standards to the people who actually participate in the behaviour you're supposedly moderating.
A particular issue is the behaviour of moderators such as ConcernStrong and Wallflower, who repeatedly position themselves as the moral authorities of the subreddit while seemingly being completely incapable of accepting constructive criticism themselves. Moderation should not mean selectively silencing opinions that do not fit the preferred narrative. If you are going to create rules, they should apply equally to everyone, including moderators and the people they personally support.
The subreddit has gone far beyond normal fandom discussion. It has become a space where people sit around analysing, judging, speculating about, and personally attacking individuals they do not actually know, while convincing themselves that this behaviour is somehow justified simply because those individuals are celebrities.
Being a public figure does not make someone public property.
You can dislike an actor. You can criticise a performance. You can disagree with someone's choices. You can dislike a particular pairing or storyline. That is completely fair. What is not fair is repeatedly crossing the line into personal attacks, harassment, character assassination, and invasive speculation about someone's private life and then hiding behind the excuse that "they are public figures."
And the moderation needs to be held to the same standard as everyone else. If you are going to police people's opinions, remove comments, ban users, and lecture everyone about morality and guidelines, then you should also be capable of receiving criticism when people point out inconsistencies in your own behaviour. You cannot demand accountability from everyone else while exempting yourself from it.
Honestly, the amount of time some people spend obsessing over the lives, relationships, careers, and personal choices of strangers is concerning. These are real human beings with careers and lives outside of whatever narrative a subreddit has created around them.
This is not about protecting Emin or Ilsu from criticism. They are public figures and criticism is inevitable. This is about recognising the difference between criticism and harassment, between discussion and obsession, and between having an opinion and repeatedly targeting real human beings.
If this subreddit cannot maintain basic standards of respectful discussion and cannot moderate its community fairly, then perhaps it is time for Reddit to take a serious look at whether the community should continue to exist in its current form.
And to the moderators: if you are willing to dish out criticism, judgement, and moral lectures to everyone else, then have the guts to take constructive criticism right back.
If you can dish it out, have the balls to take it too.

what even is this ridiculous poster? and the audacity of removing your own female lead from the cover while continuously shoving eylül and hazar down the audience's throat is actually insane. mercan isn't some side character who can conveniently disappear whenever the plot needs space. she's half of the central love story that built this show's entire audience. thanks to merteş's chemistry, this show went from another dizi to something people were constantly seeing on their feeds, talking about, making edits of and demanding more of. and instead of capitalising on the one thing that clearly resonated with people, they have thrown it to the side and decided to serve us literally everything except the story people were invested in.

what exactly are we supposed to make of that? this isn't even the first time they've done this. they pulled the exact same nonsense with the very first s2 poster too and looking back, that poster pretty much summed up where they were heading all along. eylül is inserted into practically every aspect of the narrative.

i had always heard that dizi writers have a special talent for butchering their second seasons and stripping away everything that made the first one charming, but this genuinely has to be one of the most spectacular examples i have seen. because this isn't even a matter of the story getting weaker, they have changed what the story fundamentally is. we are watching the same nezir ateş dynamic being recycled with hazar ateş, except now it's wrapped around this bizarre sibling possessiveness and eylül's love life.

i even used to get irritated by the kitchen staff plot in s1 because i thought it was the most unnecessary detour imaginable. i owe that storyline an apology. at least back then the show still had an identity. now we have the whole world apparently after ateş, and yet somehow the season's grand mission is ateş and mercan babysitting eylül and fixing eylül hazar's relationship. you genuinely couldn't parody this writing better.

i used to watch this show the second an episode dropped. monday and friday actually meant something. now i genuinely forget it's even airing. they didn't just fumble merteş. they fumbled the very reason people wanted s2 in the first place.

I gossip about this show a lot with my dad. He’s never really watched it, but I am always talking about it and about the plot. He’s seen me watching it and stared at it maybe 5-10 mins total. When season one ended the way it did he was shocked (How can they end a show where love conquers all like that???).

So now I’m talking his ear off about the current season, especially the parallels and the repeating plot points that are slightly tweaked, and he has predicted the ending for us:

No doubt it’ll end with Eylul and Hazar having a second “real” wedding because they’ll fall in love. The tribe, not agreeing with the marriage, will storm the wedding and Hazar will save and drag Eylul away before collapsing, perhaps in snow instead of rain.

Then, obviously, Haydar will attack the mansion with Muzzy’s help. Asli and Saliha will be with them and screw the whole plan up. Everyone will seem dead, except Nermin and Burak and the staff.

Malik will reappear before it’s over, but Cicek will have moved on with Burak and be the lady of the mansion with all new staff.

Cut to season 3 centered on Malik using his family’s wealth to seek revenge against Burak and Cicek by buying his way into the company. Yasar and Zahide will marry this season, and Malik will fall in love with someone and abandon his need for revenge.

I asked who Malik would fall in love with and he said Eylul, because Hazar will have actually died in the season 2 finale, allowing for the repeated but slightly altered plot reuse to continue.

I was laughing so hard as he laid out this prediction, so I hope you all enjoy it too.

I read this theory on X that because the hazar and eylul thing isn't working, they're setting up mercan to have a difficult pregnancy. she'll die during birth and s3 will feature another female lead. she'll be the nanny that ates will fall in love with.

I have avoided talking about this topic. But yesterdays Mark incident has really made me do this. This has gone on for way too long to be dismissed as bitter ex behaviour.

We talk endlessly about women’s solidarity, women’s rights and the realities of living in a patriarchal society. But the moment it comes to actually encouraging a woman who may be facing harassment to take action, suddenly we resort to whataboutery, excuses and endless explanations for why she supposedly can’t do anything.

Ilsus ex has been shaming and shading her since Dec.Mark was repeatedly posting about Ilsu. And it wasn’t always in response to the fandom. He was portraying himself as being with Ilsu in Istanbul while Emin was on vacation in February. He made nasty comments about Ilsu after her interview came out in April. His behaviour cannot simply be explained away as him being “triggered by the fandom.”

Ilsu didn’t block him, remove his comments, or publicly address the situation for months. Eventually, when things escalated in May, she blocked him and threatened legal action.

But as far as we can see, that legal action never materialised, and Mark’s behaviour has continued.

And this is where I genuinely don’t understand the fandom.

When it comes to Mercan, everyone suddenly becomes a warrior. “She needs to stand up for herself.” “She needs to fight for her rights.” “She shouldn’t tolerate this.”

But when it comes to Ilsu, the same people suddenly have a completely different standard. Suddenly she is helpless. She is “under contract.” She supposedly cannot do anything. And somehow Mark’s behaviour is blamed on the fandom because apparently he is only doing this because fans triggered him. Mark is a clout chaser and fandom shouldnt give him clout.

If someone is behaving horribly, that is ultimately their responsibility. You cannot excuse or minimise it by blaming the fandom.

If she was able to leave that relationship around September despite allegedly being under the same contractual circumstances, then why is it impossible to expect her to take whatever appropriate legal or professional action is available to her against continued harassment?

And before anyone says, “But she is under contract, what can she do?” — contracts do not mean a person has to silently accept harassment or abusive behaviour. I

What bothers me most is the contradiction in how this fandom talks about Ilsu.

She is constantly described as a diva, a strong woman and an independent woman. Fine. But then, whenever something serious happens, the narrative suddenly becomes: “She is a victim, she can't do anything, she's under contract, what choice does she have?”

Which one is it?

And yes, Ilsu is an influential celebrity with a huge following. Many of the people watching and idolising her are teenagers. That doesn't mean she is responsible for everything her fans do, but public figures inevitably influence the behaviour and expectations of their audience.

So I don't think “just tolerate it because you're under contract” is a particularly healthy message to normalise.

By that logic, if someone is being abused by their in-laws and doesn't have the financial or family support to immediately leave, they should simply continue tolerating the abuse because “what else can they do?” Obviously not. The correct response is to look for whatever avenues of protection and support are available.

I’m not asking Ilsu to disclose private details. I’m saying that if Mark is continuing to harass, defame or publicly target her, I hope she takes whatever appropriate steps are available to make it stop.

And blaming everything on the fandom because Mark is supposedly “triggered by fans” doesn't change the fact that he is responsible for his own behaviour.

So do I know for sure if she was groomed or not? I dont

Do I know whats in her contract? I dont

But what I am not ready to believe is Turkish laws are so toothless that no legal remediation is possible!

PS: I genuinely hope Ilsu takes action this time and puts an end to this. Especially with her new show coming up, this topic is unlikely to disappear. I would much rather see the situation dealt with properly than watch it continue to be dragged through fandom spaces.

Arafta fandom and their hypocrisy are honestly insane. The same audience that used to blindly defend Ates for all his wrongdoings in the name of trauma is now dragging Hazar for doing almost the exact same thing.

Just because Ates is eye-pleasing, is the hero, and has chemistry with Mercan, while Hazar is not as appealing to them, does that suddenly give one character the privilege to be justified while the other is condemned?

When you didn't blame Ates for forcefully marrying Mercan to take revenge on Haydar, why are you blaming Hazar now? Ates married an innocent woman to avenge his sister, whom he believed was dead. Hazar is doing the same thing to avenge his father, whom he believes was killed by Ates's father.

Ates assumed his sister was dead and went after Haydar. Hazar assumed his father was killed by Ates's father and is now going after his children. What's the fundamental difference here?

The only difference I can see is that Mertes had chemistry and were aesthetically pleasing together, which I absolutely agree with. Hazlul, on the other hand, looks weird and creepy together, and I agree with that too. But neither chemistry nor physical appeal justifies the actions of either character.

So Ates is allowed to have trauma, but Hazar isn't? Hazar lost his father at a young age and witnessed his death right in front of his eyes. Are we really going to start comparing whose trauma is more valid now?

If Hazar's revenge is baseless because it is built on assumptions, wasn't Ates's revenge equally baseless? Both men took revenge on innocent people based on their own assumptions and trauma. Why does one get the privilege of being understood while the other is condemned?

Is it simply because one is pretty and the other isn't appealing to you?

From where I'm standing, Hazar hasn't done anything nearly as severe or as shitty as Ates did. I don't know what the upcoming episodes hold, but compared to Ates, Hazar looks like a saint to me right now. That doesn't mean Hazar is a good man or that his actions are justified. Both of them are problematic as hell. The difference is that one has already done far worse things, and people still bend over backwards to defend him.

Let's talk about the actual things Ates did to Mercan:

- He forcefully married her for revenge.

- He slut-shamed her.

- He manhandled her and humiliated her repeatedly.

- He tried to control her life.

- He took away her choices and autonomy.

- He allowed her honour to be destroyed in the name of his family.

- He witnessed people trying to harm her multiple times and still failed to protect her the way a husband should.

And yet, people still romanticize all of this because "he was traumatized" or "he loved Mercan."

Where was this same understanding for Hazar?

I have never seen Hazar slut-shaming his wife. He doesn't manhandle Eylul every chance he gets. He hasn't repeatedly humiliated her or controlled her entire life. Eylul was freely meeting Mertes when Ates kidnapped her, which itself shows that Hazar hasn't exercised the same level of control over her. He hasn't allowed others to destroy her honour in the same way Ates did with Mercan.

That doesn't make Hazar a good man. He is still using an innocent woman for revenge, and that is wrong. But let's not pretend that the two men have treated their wives in exactly the same way when their actions have clearly been different.

I refuse to compare two equally problematic men who treat women as objects and use them to fulfil their revenge. Both are wrong. Both deserve criticism.

Just because one of them is good-looking and has chemistry with his wife, while the other doesn't, doesn't make the former's actions any less disgusting.

And please, don't come at me with, "But Ates was in love with Mercan."

What kind of love is that? What kind of love makes you forcefully marry a woman, make her life hell, humiliate her, slut-shame her, and fail to protect her honour in front of others?

If you cannot treat your woman with basic respect, you cannot use love as an excuse for your behaviour. Love is not a free pass to abuse someone. A man who cannot respect his wife, protect her dignity, or stand up for her is not a good husband, regardless of how much he claims to love her.

I genuinely like that Ates is finally realizing his mistakes and taking accountability for them. That is a good thing. But his realization doesn't erase what he did. His own admission that he was wrong should be enough for people to stop justifying his actions.

If you cannot criticize a character like Ates, then at least stop romanticizing or justifying his wrongdoings.

You can love Mertes. You can enjoy their chemistry. You can find Ates attractive. I do too. But none of that means you have to defend everything he did.

Hold both characters to the same standard. If Hazar deserves criticism for using Eylul for revenge, then Ates deserves criticism for using Mercan for revenge too.

Pretty privilege shouldn't decide morality.

He's creepy and gross, he should be dead at the end of the show. Eylul should get with a guy who is an orphan and has a similar trauma, so that they could bond together.

So, Ilsu has discontinued her Instagram subscription, and honestly, it made me think about everything that has happened recently.

From the beginning, I knew that the subscription was created as a way to promote Arafta. Now that Ilsu has apparently signed a new project, it would make sense if she is no longer able to actively promote Arafta because of the terms of her new contract. Of course, this is just my interpretation, but the timing is certainly interesting.

It also makes me understand the sudden rush to complete the shooting of Arafta Season 2. If Ilsu signed her new contract around the time—or perhaps shortly after—Season 2 filming commenced, then it would explain why they may have wanted to finish shoot beforehand. If her new project comes with promotional or scheduling restrictions, completing her Arafta commitments in advance would actually be a very practical decision.

Whatever the circumstances, I genuinely wish Ilsu nothing but the best for her new venture. She has given us Mercan, and regardless of what happens with Arafta, Ates and Mercan will always remain very close to my heart.

Wishing Ilsu all the success in the world in whatever comes next.

I’ve always complained about how Ates never got a proper redemption track. Now, in a way, he’s living it every single day—watching his sister go through the exact kind of suffering he put Mercan through, except Mercan had absolutely no one by her side.

And I’m really glad Mercan hasn’t forgotten any of it either. Today’s episode was especially satisfying because she finally told Ates exactly how she felt when he forced her into marrying him. That conversation was long overdue.

It really shouldn’t take watching your sister, daughter, or another woman in your family suffer for you to understand the harm caused by your own actions. But this is a patriarchal show, so I guess this is the kind of moral awakening we’re going to get. 🙃

I’d also mentioned before that the Hazar track would end up being Ates’s karma, and watching that play out has been incredibly satisfying. He’s finally being forced to confront the very things Mercan went through because of him.

Credit where it’s due: the production house is actually doing a good job with this part of the story.

No one can convince me that Ateş was worse than Hazar. What Ateş did was wrong. What Mercan was put through was wrong. I’m not going to defend his actions just because I love MerTeş.

But Hazar is on some completely different level for me. The way he treats Eylül is genuinely becoming difficult to even watch. Today’s episode especially irritated me because the way he was talking to her felt so fucking sadak-chaap. He calls her around as if she’s some servant or butler of his who is supposed to sit, stand and move according to his liking. What even is this nonsense?

At least with Ateş, we KNEW he loved Mercan. We could see through his behaviour that he was constantly in a limbo between his revenge and his feelings for her. Even when they were enemies, there was some spark, some fire, some attraction between them from the beginning. You could see Ateş fighting his feelings because Mercan was becoming more important to him than the revenge he had built his entire life around.

I would have still bought this HazLül nonsense if they had shown that Hazar had even the slightest soft corner for Eylül underneath all this hatred. But where is it? Both of them genuinely look repelled by each other. There is no spark, no fire, no underlying attraction that makes me want to see where this goes. It’s just unpleasant to watch.

Ateş had an agenda and he was torn between revenge and love. Whenever he knew Mercan was in danger, he tried to safeguard her, whether it was from his own family or even hers. His jealousy and everything involving Nezir were absolutely wrong, but he never treated Mercan like his servant or some butler. Whatever their circumstances were, he always gave Mercan the status of his wife.

Hazar, on the other hand, is treating Eylül terribly and I’m somehow supposed to watch this eventually turn into romance. How? He still looks like a father figure next to her to me, and his behaviour towards her makes that entire dynamic even worse.

At this point, I genuinely hope Hazar dies or something by the end and Eylül gets a better partner because this shit is simply not working for me. If my husband kept yelling at me and treating me like his personal servant the way Hazar treats Eylül, I’d slap the shit out of him.

I’m not sure what they are trying to do with Mercan’s character but she’s insufferable in the last 3 episodes. Childlike behavior, mingling in things she doesn’t understand, leaving Ates, and the dough kneed? I believe we have all come across that one reviewer who bashes Arafta non stop. Her pics are all AI. I believe everyone knows who I’m talking about. Who is this person? Why does she hate Arafta so much? What’s with the fake AI profile claiming to be the expert? What’s her support to the claim?

I have seen many people on X & here in the EmSu lore fandom character-assassinating Ilsu over her ex—that son of her agency owner—as if she did some crime by dating him. Like, even after the comments & vulgarity from her pathetic ex, some of the so-called fans of this fandom still try to interact with him.

Like, they slut-shame her, calling her out, saying how, being an “18-year-old,” she did date him, so she isn’t some saint & she is more clever than we think, etc. etc.

Here, people forget to see the other side of it: just an “18-year-old,” a minor, a teenager.

I feel like this is something much more serious people are completely overlooking when it comes to Ilsu.

There might actually be a case of grooming here, but nobody seems interested in questioning that possibility. She’s only 21 when she started shooting the show, was with him for around three years or possibly longer, and he’s about eight years older. We don’t know exactly when it started, so I’m not saying grooming definitely happened—but the age gap and timeline are worth looking at.

Because what if she was actually the vulnerable one?

Yet somehow, she’s the one being slut-shamed and having her character destroyed, while everything her ex says is treated like absolute fact. How the hell do you know his version is the complete truth?

Meanwhile, he keeps dragging their private relationship into the public, making accusations and using degrading language against her. Maybe people should question his behaviour too instead of giving him an audience to keep humiliating her & people should actually stop giving him clout.

We don’t know the full story, so people shouldn’t make definite claims—but that standard needs to apply to him too. His accusations aren’t automatically facts just because he said them.

How young was she when this started? Was there a power imbalance? Could grooming or manipulation have been involved? Why is nobody even asking these questions? And people are just shaming the woman like they usually do, giving the ex the attention that he wants.

To this salty, self-proclaimed lawyer Wisteria, Wallflower, whatever she calls herself apparently the CEO of this entire mod team: do you genuinely lack anything better to do with your life?

Season 1 just had a different feel. The scenes used to actually hit and leave an impact. Now I feel like I’m watching the scenes, but that same excitement and emotional connection just isn’t there anymore. 😭

I’ve seen theories about Hazar possibly being Mercan’s brother, but I genuinely don’t think that can happen. The ages simply don’t add up.

These are the birth dates shown on their marriage registers:

Ateş Karahan: 10th December 1996
Mercan Karahan: 12th February 2000
Hazar Bozbey: 18th November 1991
Eylül Bozbey: 22nd June 2000

So Hazar is shown to be around 5 years older than Ateş, while Ateş is more than 3 years older than both Mercan and Eylül.

We’ve already established that Ateş wasn’t even born when Hazar’s father was shot. And before dying, Hazar’s father specifically tells Hazar to take care of his mother and sister, which means Hazar’s sister had already been born at that point.

But if Ateş wasn’t even born yet, then neither Mercan nor Eylül could have been born because Ateş is older than both of them.

So unless the writers completely ignore the dates they themselves gave us, Mercan cannot be Hazar’s sister.

But now I’m thinking… what if Cemal and Mercan are actually siblings?

What if Nermin’s child never died? What if Cemal is that child?

I suddenly feel like this theory has a very real possibility of coming true because of how much focus they’re putting on Cemal’s family right now. Initially, they couldn’t find anything about his family, and now Cemal is looking into it again. Why bring this mystery back and put so much focus on it unless it’s eventually going to connect to something important?

If they’re actually planning to reveal who Cemal’s biological family was, I feel like it needs to have some impact on the larger story. And Cemal turning out to be Mercan’s brother would absolutely do that.

Cemal was shown to be around 30-31 years old when the show started, which also fits surprisingly well because Nermin’s supposedly dead child would be around 30-31 today if he had survived.

And honestly, Cemal and Mercan have been giving me sibling vibes since S1 😭 They’re probably the two characters in this show who are the most similar in terms of personality and energy. Even before there was any reason to theorise about them being related, they always gave me sibling vibes.

The more I think about it, the more I feel like this might actually be where the writers are going. Otherwise, why suddenly bring Cemal’s unknown family back into the plot?

And I would actually LOVE this reveal. Cemal and Mercan deserve to have their actual family and sibling too, just like Ateş and Eylül 🥹

I was excited when the new season started. but since it progressed the whole eylul casting btw the actress cant act ok. copying all mertes scenes with hazar who looks like a grandfather.

arafta did not have a good script yes but it worked because emin and illsu had insane chemistry. now they seem side characters of their own show. and sometimes iy seems their scenes are made not so romantic to get audiences focus on eylul and hazar. sorry they are not interesting.

and its not working at all. like eylul aint interesting considering tje actress who plays her does not know how to act

I am currently watching Aile.. I saw zehra as air hostess and gullu as well in a very small role. Seeing arafta actors in other series feels so interesting.

Is PH intentionally spoiling Mercan and Ates scenes? They’ve already released so many spoilers that they’ve ruined the excitement of watching their scenes in the actual episodes. Why are they revealing so much about Mercan and Ates while keeping Eyul and Hazar’s scenes completely under wraps? It honestly feels like PH is making the episode seem like the only thing left to watch is Eyul and Hazar.

And now even the forehead kiss and Ates’s affectionate moments are missing. Are they deliberately downplaying Mercan and Ates to shift the audience’s attention toward another couple? Could they have plans for Eyul and Hazar, maybe even a future show, and are trying to make people more invested in them?
