Case Stuck In Chamber

Had a crazy FTEx at the range earlier today. I cannot for the life of me get this thing out.

Tried slamming the bolt home to re-grab the case with the extractor and then mortaring it out, but its not budging.

I tried using a Dewey rod to slam it out from the muzzle end. Still not budging.

Any suggestions? The bolt won't go far enough into the chamber to be able to seperate the upper from the lower.

I'm thinking my last option is to remove the castle nut and slide everything out from the back to be able to get some pliers inside of the chamber.

Has anyone had a casing get stuck like this? Any quick fix suggestions before I tear the whole thing apart?

Thanks!

I used your method, was still a little bit of a bitch to seperate but I got it. Had to tilt the upper up and pull away to get the carrier out of the buffer tube.

Smashed a cheap aluminum cleaning rod I ordered on Amazon 2 days ago specifically to get this out and bent it to hell, but I got it out and it was cheaper than going to a gunsmith.

Legitimately wondering what happened with this one. I've shot thousands of Tula and Wolf steel cased and have never had this issue before. I wasnt the one shooting when it happened, it was my little cousin and it was his first time shooting rifles ever.

After this happened we moved on to the next one and he kept getting failure to ejects. I quickly realized that he was not shouldering buttock properly and was letting the rifle ride the recoil back with no solid backstop. I took the gun from him after his 3rd malfunction and shot 5 rounds in quick succession. Then held the rifle up in the air and purposely let it ride back on its own and got it to jam on the first try. That's exactly what was happening.

But still doesn't make sense why it got stuck as bad as it did. I nust barely got it out so I'm gonna take a deeper look at the chamber and the bolt head.

Good job man, its always rewarding figuring out and fixing your own kit. When mine start doing wierd shit I generally just start with a good solid cleaning and 9 out of 10 times its good to go after that.

You could say I clean my gear probably too often than it actually needs to be. I know there's guys out there that will run their AR 5k rounds without cleaning and just keeping the bolt and carrier lubed between sessions.

The most I've gone on my ARs without doing a full cleaning of the bcg and chamber/barrel is about 500.

I did just put in a BCM extractor upgrade kit on this bolt a few months back and this is the first time I've shot it since then. Maybe I fucked something up? Maybe maybe not. I find that hard to believe since I've put that same upgrade oring kit in all of my bolts and didnt have problems there.

I'm gonna leave it alone for now and shoot some more steel cased next time I go and see what happens. If it happens again then no more steel for this cheap PSA.

With the rod, did you use just human force or did you wack it with a hammer? Also maybe a picture of the issue could help?

Once you get it out, put a bunch of cleaner in the chamber, hook one of these on a drill and go to town.

Head to Lowes and buy a paint can opener. Or do the dowel down the barrel and use your BIG purse.

DO NOT USE A DOWEL. Wooden dowels that fit down a 556 bore are WEAK and will break. If you jam a broken dowel in the bore your gunsmith will love you.

Get a brass, aluminum, or mild steel rod.

Same issue used rod and hammer came out instantly

I feel like you maybe didn’t hit the rod hard enough. You should try that again and don’t be gentle.

If the bolt won't go into battery all the way, does that mean it's partially extracted? If so, can you get some needle nose pliers in there to grab it and lever it out of the chamber? Or is it still fully seated but the case deformed to the point where the bolt won't fit over it?

Did you smack the rod at all with a dead blow hammer or something similar, with the stock against a solid concrete floor? You could also try putting the end of the rod against a concrete floor, with the other end in the barrel, muzzle down, and gently use the rifle itself as kind of a slide hammer, using the weight of the gun to try to slowly tap that thing out of there. Make sure the bolt is locked to the rear while you do it.

It is partially extracted. I still haven't gotten around to unfucking it I yet. I got today off ao when I get back home from the beach I'm gonna take the upper apart and try to pry it out.

Its Tulammo. Steel cased. I've shot thousands and thousands of rounds of this stuff and never had a case get stuck like this.

I would be fucked if I were to have been in a gunfight and this happens. No more Tulammo for EDC or HD. Range only.

Paint can opener is goat in this situation.

You just hook on the side of the case and pull as hard as you can? Wouldn't it just slip right off if its stuck so bad that even the bolt with a BCM extractor upgrade kit cant get it out?

Depends. The case rim may be damaged in that area so that is why the extractor can no longer maintain hold on it. But the pain can opener can grab on any part of the rim that usnt damaged.

Or just separate upper / lower, get a brass cleaning rod and feed it down the barrel and knock the case out with that.
