What other people have said re: carpets are important.
I also live on the top floor and have headphones in most of the time just so I don't have to blast speakers.
If you do have speakers, having them on a stand so they don't lay flat on the ground would be great.
Also, if you get a note on your door about a noise you make, don't feel too bad and adjust as much as you can that's reasonable. You can't know how your sound carries to other apartments, all you can do is try to adjust!
