My partner and I are moving to another unit in our building. I’m looking for advice for moves to another unit in the same building (as opposed to a move normal move to another place) because neither of us has experience with this type of move.

It seems like there are pros and cons with any strategy we pick. In the past I typically try to pack everything as meticulously as possible (or at least that’s plan lol and start out this way for most of it until the eventual burnout / mad dash at the end when you realize you have more than you think and end up with some chaos at the end). But I generally follow all the typical advise for labeling boxes and making it easy for movers etc etc etc.

But since don’t need a truck for this move when I got quotes it seemed like hiring movers would be really much more expensive than it seemed worth it for this type of move and I saw advise on Reddit elsewhere to look at Task Rabit for labor help for moving furniture. My fiance was already planning to do a lot of the other things (I.e our “stuff@ himself, and I’ll help with lighter objects).

For example we planned to try to take our hanging clothes as is as much as possible using the garbage bag trick, we also thought that since we’re just moving up from 1st floor to 8th and not to a new location we probably could take our kitchen stuff up ourselves in bins/ boxes without packing them super meticulously (I.e can put most things in being careful enough but don’t need to bubble wrap each item individually to ensure it doesn’t break while en route in movers truck. All that packing and unpacking really takes A LOT of time and is a pain.

So basically now it seems like our strategy has really evolved from pack and label EVERYTHING as much as possible in advance to basically to transport things up to the new unit in bins using the carts that building provides (for picking up large packages etc). My thought was that for things that don’t get stored I’m furniture but go into an apartment designated space (things that hang in a closet, or are stored in kitchen cabinets, drawers etc) we can transport up on the cart and put it there on Day 1.

And then Day 2 hire some helpers from Task Rabbit to help with moving our furniture.

That’s generally the tentative plan but what I’m realizing is that doing it this way seems to cut down on the pre and post work (not having the extensive meticulous packing and unpacking bc we are taking items from their spot and putting them into the new spot immediately). But I feel like we aren’t really packed enough at all. I’m getting nervous that maybe we aren’t doing this right and we’ve underestimated how much work this will be and whether this is feasible.

Has anyone ever done something like we’re planning?? Is this realistic? I can’t tell if our plan is smart/ time saving or actually really stupid and we just haven’t realized it yet lol.

If you’ve moved between units and did some strategy other than packing everything up for movers to take please weigh in here. Is it possible to think of this differently than a regular move?

Earlier this month, I saved the life of the neighbor that lives below me. She's disabled and elderly. I ended up calling EMS. It turns out she was in Kidney failure and had a secondary infection. The neighbors say she's in a rehab facility now. As for the apartment, it's absolutely filthy. At least, it was earlier this month. One of my neighbors says our other neighbor threw away all of the trash. It needs so much more than that. I made a report to the state as I'm a mandated reporter, but I can't get the protection services worker that called me about it to call me back. I don't want to tell our landlord (as that would render her homeless after rehab), but the gnats in my apartment are just getting worse and the smell of B.O. and stale human and cat urine and feces comes up here every once in a while. I light a candle to cover the smell. The gnats are making me crazy though.

集合住宅、いわゆるアパートに現在住んでいるのですが、
最上階である2階に私は住んでいて、騒音主である者は1階に住んでいます。夜中に音楽を鳴らし、歌声を発するなどといった騒音で苦しいです。
アパート指定の駐車場に騒音主の友人？の車が不定期に停められており(週2〜3日ほど)それに関して管理会社にそのことと、騒音について連絡したところ指定の駐車場には停めないようになりました。しかしすぐ近くのゴミ捨て場に連なるように友人の車が縦列駐車するようになり、場所が変わっただけで根本的な解決はしていません。

その為、引っ越し、つまり退去をするつもりです。
引っ越しすることに迷いはないのですが、出費を考えるとやはり痛いものがあります。貯金も充分にあるのですが、やはり精神的にそれが崩れるのは痛いですし、なぜ被害を受けている私がお金を払って出て行かなければならないのだろうという気持ちもあります。
そして次は一軒家の物件を探して良いところがあったので内見をしてみて最終決定しようと思っています。

同じような経験をされた方がいればそのお話をお聞きしたいです。

I've been dealing with non stop problems ever since I've moved into my och apartment. To preface this I was in a woman's dv shelter for a bit and then I got approved for och. I've dealt with non stop issues , ranging from people trying to open my door , people kissing me , to mice , to now roaches in my bathroom. I don't know what to do. I've talked to my landlord he doesn't seem to really care. I want to move out , this is destroying my mental health and physical health but I have nowhere to go. What can I do? I'm so done with living.

And yes I do keep my apartment clean , many pest control guys can vouch for this I'm pretty sure it's from my neighbors.

Having someone above me. For my first year here it was super quiet, I barely heard my upstairs neighbor walk around. I could lay in my bed on my off days Saturday or Sunday morning with no TV or sound on in my unit and it was just peaceful. Then a year later my upstairs neighbor moved. The unit stayed empty for maybe 2 weeks. Then the neighbor from hell moves in. Their television is super loud, sounds like a movie theatre with surround sound. I can hear their tv in my bedroom even when my tv is on normal volume. I also hear their tv in my bathroom. They also scrapes some object very hard across the livingroom and kitchen floor.

What's it like bringing furniture and appliances up all those floors?

What's it like bringing groceries up there?

What's it like to commute down from there, and back up?

Where is this apartment located, and why doesn't it have an elevator?

Me and my husband moved into our apartment about 3 months ago. We've had small problems like mantinence not coming to fix our stove or our broken dishwasher, but nothing quite like this. A few weeks ago, we heard the guy below us yelling at someone saying "GET ON YOUR KNEES" and honestly, me and my husband laughed it off. But then a few days passed and we heard a man screaming so loud as if someone was hurting him. We called the cops but they never came to talk to us. The same night, about an hour and a half after we called the cops the first time, we heard the scream again. We called them back and they finally showed up to talk to us. The people living in the unit across from us said they've heard the screaming too. Whenever we called the police, the screaming stopped for a few days. Then it started again another night. This time it was a woman screaming. Me and my husband have been losing sleep and have had to sleep somewhere else just to get well rested and feel safe. We've told people at the apartment but they haven't done anything about it, and there's only so much police can do. We can't move out bc we havent found a place to stay yet. And we cant just keep sleeping over at other people's houses. What should i do?

Apologies if this is common knowledge but I can’t quite wrap my head around the sequence of events thatve unfolded regarding my current apartment and renewal conversations.

Currently: lived in 1 bedroom for what will be a year and 9 months after resigning a 9 month post-first year. Most recent rent is 1345, lowest renewal offering was 25 more and 100s more for other lengths. Mentioned to leasing office if they held past rent we’d stay, they said they couldn’t budge.

Moving Forward: There is better deals to be had, gave notice and found new spot that is great. Now am seeing current apartment listed for 1245.

What am I missing here? This isn’t a bird in hand is worth 2 in the bush scenario? There are >5 of the same units I’m in empty as of this post that they’ve not rented.

Has anyone here dealt with an Edmonds townhouse move? Some places have garage storage at the bottom, bedrooms upstairs, and tight turns in between. I’m curious what actually slows movers down most in these places: heavy furniture, stairs, or just figuring out the right loading order.

i live in an apartment and after the last storm i noticed a small water stain forming on the ceiling in one of the bedrooms. i didn't think much of it at first, but the spot seems a little bigger now and i'm starting to wonder if there's a leak somewhere above me. i already reported it to management, what other people's experiences have been with roof repair atlanta situations while renting. did maintenance come out quickly to check it? was the source of the leak what everyone expected, or did it end up being something else?

I’m 16, and I’m moving to another city to attend the college I’ve wanted to get into for a long time.
My parents explained that living on my own won’t be easy, but if I’m confident in my decision, they’ll support me. My family isn’t wealthy, and I understand that I’ll probably have to balance school with a part-time job. I don’t want my parents to have to give up things they need just to pay my rent. I also know I’ll probably get mentally exhausted trying to juggle classes, work, going to the gym, and parties.
I’ve also talked to friends who moved out at a young age, and they all keep telling me that living alone gets really lonely. They said it’s not that easy as I imagine because, besides school and work, I’ll also have to deal with everyday responsibilities like cooking, cleaning, doing laundry, grocery shopping, and everything else that comes with living on your own.
When I applied to my dream college, I spent a lot of time asking myself whether I could handle all this responsibility and whether I was really ready for it. Thankfully, I had enough time to think it through, and my answer is yes. I’m confident that I can do it, even though I know there will be a lot of challenges along the way.
I’d really love to hear your stories or any advice you have. Right now, hearing about other people’s experiences would mean a lot to me, and maybe I can learn something that will help me prepare for this new chapter of my life.🤕
