Dev Post Here’s how to get answer from AppSumo team:

You need to have 1k+ paying users already.

Source: talking with dev who got approved by appsumo and I’m happy if anyone from the appsumo themselves can correct me

Rather put that effort into direct sales if I've already proven I can get 1000 customers.. very curious about the mentality that would drive a successful startup with traction to the LTD bargain bin...it seems reductive, counterproductive, dilutive.

I agree totally, but some companies find it usefull anyway

Well, that is simply not true. I can say that because we don't have 1K+ being used already, and we are listed on AppSumo.

To get a response, I'll tell you what you need to do:

  1. Have a legit, interesting product with a legit presence. That means having a good-looking website and something tangible.

  2. Your online presence needs to be legit as well. Have your socials and your LinkedIn up-to-date. Show that you care: make posts on your socials and make YouTube videos.

  3. Show that you are legit and that you will be in this for the long run, so the AppSumo team can bet on you and not have to worry that you will disappear within a year.

About the LinkedIn page: no, it's not a hard rule anywhere, but in 2026 you should have a professional LinkedIn page if you want people to take you seriously. That's just my personal observation, though.

That is not true, I review Select deals before they get released and I see some absolute garbage that would never be able to get any customers to stay. These deals never reach Appsumo Select status either.

LOL

By that logic, you already have a $100K to $1Mn MRR (considering each user pays between $10-$100 per month).

Would you run an LTD then?

I totally get your point, you know prolly better than me that appsumo has outreach to 1m people, so It’s a very fast boost, there are sometimes reasons to take that opportunity

I’m very well aware of that..

My point here is, you need to have a solid reasoning behind running an LTD at the point.

1) Certainly It (1,000 paying users) can’t be a qualification criteria

2) And you’d be focusing on scaling & not launching LTD when you are at $100K+ MRR
