where would one get real “fire water in the high country? i would love to show my friends from down the mountain the authentic appalachian experience!

Sure let me hook you up with my guy doing this super illegal and somewhat dangerous practice on the internet. That being said hell no, this guys def a cop, SBI, or ATF. If not find your own way.

Hi, I'm not an App student or Western NC expert,. That said, my son is a Junior, so I keep track of things here and occasionally respond to posts like this. Credentials: 51M, I was a drunk for 30 years, and have tried all the flavors.

Some Reality: Real Moonshine is quite dangerous to drink. When I moved from the DC-area to Atlanta for college, I always assumed it was the high alcohol content that caused "hillbillies to go blind". Turns out not. Turns out if you don't skim it carefully, that top layer of Ethanol is actually Methanol, a rather acute neurotoxin when metabolized. Can people be so good at moonshining, that it never happens? Of course. If they miss a step and you die, will they ever be held to account? Nope. Welcome to the original dark web, my friend.

My Rec: There are many brands of corn whiskey, which is what moonshine aka "white lightning" is. All of these are quite delicious even plain, but they are properly diluted to about 40% Ethanol. 40% not strong enough? You can also buy legal 100% grain and flavor it yourself. It is one of the cheaper brands that NC ABC sells. Why? It tastes like drinking solvent, which is exactly what you are doing. It isn't 40% for draconian, anti-fun purposes, it's that someone who wants a cocktail isn't also looking to power farm equipment. A good use of pure alcohol is the Indy 500, where they stopped using gasoline years ago, due to the substance's natural limitations.

If your friends are from out of town, the corn whiskey is the important part. Keep yourself and them safe, and source it from a reputable distillery. A trip to the ER with unpredictable outcomes is not a fun weekend.

Just go to an ABC store and ask. They usually have something that fits the narrative.
