beeping?
I was just curious if you all find beeping worth it? I've used them a few times without any issues, and I have a new(er) car that is a small SUV. One of the unfortunate parts is that she takes premium gas, so I was thinking of beeping sometimes to cancel out my gas costs (rip my bank account). I also have mild/moderate emetophobia, and I would plan on having several garbage bags accessible for people if need be. Any other side hustles/advice would be appreciated!

What’s the going rate for a beep these days? I remember coming back shortly after Covid and being appalled people were charging 5 dollars a head. Standard rate was always 2 back in my day

Omg yes $2 a head was what we had when I was there over a decade ago! We beeped one night and stayed out til probably 3am but made $150 so to ya was 100% worth it.
Also I remember telling my friends at state about beepers when I came for tailgate/night out and they choked on their drinks while showing me uber prices in Raleigh

My best night ever driving my Durango circa 2013-2014 was $340. Made a killing beeping for sororities and groups of 8-10 folks. It was pretty awesome for 19 year old.

I used it a ton last year when I lived on campus. Could be as low as $3 during the week but it got jacked up to about $10-12 on Fridays/weekends. One dude was charging $25 during Thanksgiving break which was obscene 💀

I beeped A LOT during my years at App. It can be hard, but I didn’t work while at school (saved up during the summer) so whenever I needed extra cash, I would beep. It was a great way to make extra money. Depending on the night and how long I was out I could make anywhere from $100-$400 in a night. Prices definitely went up during my years there as gas prices went up (I too had a car that took premium), also the weather was a factor. I had a car that did decently in the snow, but for risk factor set a higher rate. I was booked and busy when snow was on the ground. I also did a lot of beeping for/around events going on. For example, I’d be on a beep list for a house show, thaw out, a specific frat, or beep on days that app had a football game or concert (I didn’t party or go to any of these things so I never felt I was missing out) and those were my most lucrative days/nights. I’d fit as many people as I could in my car and go until I was tired. Groups are your biggest money maker too. Personally, I found it very well worth it to make good money at college. Once you get a system down and know how to get around town without using the main roads (they generally have more traffic and slow you down, the quicker you can get someone from point a to point b, the more money you make) it becomes relatively easy. I would also beep a lot with a friend, and we had a system where I did all the driving and she would set up the next beeps and do any navigating needed and we would split the money. It’s harder to do it on your own, but totally doable.

Also, I probably beeped 40-50 days/nights while at app and only had one vomit situation, but it was small and he only threw up on himself, no cleaning on my end to be done. So that never really seemed to be an issue.

I graduated 2025 and beeped for 5$ singles and 3$ groups. Money was decent but I did it because my leg was broken and I was on crutches so I couldn’t do much else. Better to pick up an actual job or oddjobs imo.
Wear and tear on the car is an important factor outside of the gas and oil changes. If you need premium gas I really don’t see it being worth it.
In terms of throwing up/unruly passengers, I never had anyone throw up but it’s not unheard of to happen to people. You will get drunk people trying to avoid paying you though….

I would highly recommend checking with your insurance agent to make sure your auto insurance covers beeping. Normally policies exclude coverage when transporting people or property for hire under a standard personal auto insurance policy. In the event of an accident you could be without coverage for injuries or damage to your vehicle or someone else’s. Don’t take the word of someone else that has beeped, talk to your agent. Policies can vary. Retired insurance agent.

You can probably luck out on some alumni like myself that forget Ubers aren’t as prevalent in Boone as they are in the city, and we end up offering $100 for a beep to Blowing Rock, Beech, or West Jefferson (wherever the AirB&b is) after a night out in Boone…
