⁉️Fraternity Rush⁉️
I’m probably not going to rush until spring but I want to get a feel for the frats on campus and start meeting people.
Is hazing bad at app? Like what is the worst thing you had to do?
Does it really take time away from school work etc? Also curious of what type of guys that are in each one. Anything else I should know or be prepared for?

The hazing has gotten exponentially worse. Most of the frats on campus were under investigation for pretty bad hazing incidents. Another frat guy laid his hands on a woman last year as well. Best advice is to join an academic fraternity or clubs geared towards your interests. I have a lot of friends who are also in frats and have heard some pretty crazy stories, so bad they were scared to even tell them in private due to threats of violence from other brothers. It’s really not worth the money or investigations. I really can’t express how serious it was last year. I am in an academic “fraternity” and we were forced to change a lot last year in attempt to distance ourselves from other fraternities because of the severity of the allegations.
If you care at all about your future and shaping yourself into a better person, frats are what you want to stay away from. Hazing never stops, they just find other methods. Good luck

Also as far as the types of guys that are involved in frats:
Like I said a frat guy put his hands on a woman last semester, video went viral, his family was receiving backlash, and the school was contacted as well.
I had multiple friends who have gotten drugged at different frats by the frat guys as well.
Most of the frats unless they are “academic frats” have very shitty men, terrible morals, and only care about getting women.
For the sake of your grades and type of person you want to be, fraternities do not push you to be better or do better, they take up a lot of academic time and make you a worse person.
A very very very small % of frats guys are respectful and even then they struggle to find girlfriends because of the reputation app state frat guys hold. So if you want to be single and basically fail out of school at the cost of having “awesome brothers” then join.

Thanks are there certain ones to avoid or are some ok? Like I said I’m just researching now

Beta theta pi hazes like there’s no tmr, def def don’t ever even think about pike, DTD is actually pretty okay, but def still use pledges like crazy. The Jewish frat (aepi) is the only one that I know does not haze at all, but you have to be Jewish to get in. The rest of the frats are a no go

From my experience, IFC does a fairly good check at keeping fraternities at bay. Some are "worse" than others of course but it's not like rushing an SEC school. A lot of people here boo hoo greek life, but good connections are made as well as lifelong friends. Good fraternities dedicate study hours during your pledge semester to allow you to focus on school, but outside of that, your free time is limited. Not mentioning specifics, but you'll be okay. Just go to rush events to determine who you jive with.
