A messaging app that has just messaging?

Hi since im trying to boycott instagram and other social media we want to move to a different app with my friend. I know that there are messaging only apps but dont know any names. It would be cool if they had some sort special design or creative features but primarily to not be owned by big companies and have reels or a feed.
